Angie — I’m only 5’1 but I’m “blessed in the chest.” The waist proportion must be why some petites don’t work for me.

julesegr, the proportions are shorter in the arms, length and waist in the petite.

Probably the most important thing with that length is that the bottoms are tapered, trousers or above knee pencil skirt or sheath.
I think it would work well for pattern mixing, but i personally find prints with just 2 colors limiting. Like im obligated to pair it with one or the other. Maybe its just me though!

Thank you, Gryffin. You inspire me always. You especially inspired me in July.

Angie -- I am still waiting on packages to arrive from Nordstroms. I'll do try-ons when everything has arrived. I am genuinely excited.

Julesegr -- I am definitely not a petite, but I always assumed you bought your "size" in petite. So if I wear a medium, I would buy a MP. Perhaps others will weigh in as well.

Sterling - I am thrilled you've found "your" blazer. There is not piece of clothing more empowering and useful IMHO. I do sincerely applaud you for ordering the matching skirt and pants. I would, if possible, and I am fully aware of the YOUCHY expense, buy all matching pieces possible. If they don't work or fit, of course, back they go. But a great suit, well it will see you through almost all life events. Adding coordinating pieces, as Angie has so succinctly stated - I would go further to, after the necessary shopping fast to recover from jacket/all possible working pieces, the second stage is to find a second blazer which coordinates with the pieces from the first. I would stay scope locked on halogen as their navy's might coordinate, a small navy weave, cream, plaid with same blue but subtle to work with the pinstripes. Lace edged cami and heels for dress, assorted tops cream/cream&navy/navy to coordinate. Dress or tube skirt solid to coordinate. With the second blazer/pants/skirt/etc and a few other pieces this is your capsule wardrobe for everything! Separate, together dress down, dress up. Extra points for a single button, low stance, two button that can be worn open or as a blazer dress with cigarette, skinnies, leggings. This will create maximum versatility with fewest pieces. For inspiration check out VB website (she plays against type masculine/feminine, pattern/pinstripes) Go back through UmmLila's posts in particular - she's particularly deft dressing down her blazers, Brooklyn - although she usually wears separates see pattern and proportion mixing with her blazers. LisaP also is queen of pinstripes, look at her blazer posts also. So excited for your Sterling!! Enjoy your gorgeous jacket!!

Angie -- I'm interested in trying this trend as a petite. Does only the length change when you go to petite sizing, or did your clients have to go up a letter size (S/M/L) when ordering a petite?

I’m chiming in from our loft in Salt Lake City. This top pick blazer looked good on everyone. Was fab in petite on petites. Fun new trendy length.

Sterling, sounds like you’re sorted, and thanks Kathie for linking to the blog post.

Do you like the navies together? Have you tried the blazer with the ankle pants and skirt? Do you have dressy black flats to wear with the outfits perhaps?

How about adding a black tube midi skirt to the mix - there are affordable ones on the sale.

Maybe we can get you into a dress!

If I remember correctly - you are tall. This length is a slam dunk with most things at your height. Don’t worry to much about proportions

Donna -- I just ordered both the skirt and the pants. I think the pants should work great with the jacket. I love the skirt but the combination might be too much for me. I would likely wear the skirt by itself until I got more comfortable with the hem. Thank you.

Lisa -- I also ordered a pair of dark navy jeans. I would love to find a knee length denim skirt, but that seems to be my HEWI. I'll keep looking.

I did consider the double-breasted factor too. When I was trying it on yesterday, this jacket looked good open. It looks GREAT closed, but I don't see me wearing it that way while sitting at a desk.

Thank you, Roberta. In my mind, I see this jacket coordinated with just-above-the-knee length skirts and slim cut, cigarette pants. My problem is that I am in the middle of a wardrobe rebuild and my building blocks are either limited, missing, or the wrong color. I boldly made the decision to have navy and black as my neutral colors in equal measure. It does not feel right combining this jacket with my black. It looks too mismatched (not purposeful). I'll check the length of the sleeve too. Good tip.

Bijou -- I considered sheath dresses! I was shopping NAS for them yesterday evening but did not see anything that I liked enough to try.

Thanks, Windchime. I am hoping that as I get comfortable with this jacket it will become a work horse for me.

Delurked, I am going to try the blazer on later this morning. It was just too hot and humid yesterday to even consider doing try-ons. Even it is hot and humid, I definitely want to get this done so that the jacket does not languish in my closet.

Thank you, Gryffin!!!!!! I was so hoping you would weigh in. ALL of your fabulous posts inspired me greatly. I devoured every single word you wrote. I stalked blazers religiously and this is the one that was most successful. I truly love it because it is pinstripe and it fits me like a dream. I have an idea of how I should be wearing it, I just don't have the coordinating pieces in my existing wardrobe .... yet.

Slaps head. Gigi. Of course, the rule of 1/3-2/3 proportions. I know all about that rule. HOW do I always forget it when I need it most????? I truly do need to tape something to my bathroom mirror. Thank you for reminding me.

KKards, I hope you do eventually buy a longer blazer. It would be fun to hear how you opt to style yours. In my mind, I agree that it all comes down to the silouhette of the bottoms (slim pant, straight jeans, knee-length pencil skirt). In retrospect, the midi-length skirt would like look awful. It would be long over long which I think I would abhor.

Thank you, Kathie, for the weblink. I did remember reading that blog when it was posted. I had a disconnect yesterday when I was standing in front of the mirror and closet. My brain went completely blank.

Joy and Keix -- I hope we all learn something about styling this emerging jacket length. I think we are going to be seeing more and more of them and I am genuinely excited about it. I can't say why though. In my heart, I feel it has the potential to be flattering on me because of my height.

Suz -- footwear. I was so focused on the bottom, I had not even considered footwear. I KNOW this blazer would look killer with booties, but I only own flat shoes in a loafer-ish style. I had hoped to buy a bootie during NAS but everything I tried was for medium-width feet. I opted to return the booties I ordered and search for something in a wide-width in the future.

Jenn -- I think this jacket would look especially fabulous with jeans. I'd love to hear your thoughts when you receive it.

The "rule" when I first wore long blazers was to wear them over short skirts or slim cut, cigarette pants. Also, to make sure the blazer cuff hit you at the wrist bone. The idea was to have a masculine cut but not look you were wearing your dad's jacket.

I love a pinstripe and this is gorgeous. I have a navy jacket with a pinstripe lining. I roll the cuffs so you can see the stripe and wear it with floral skirts that have a big hit of navy. I think your navy pants would be great. I thi k white would also work, and the right-for-you yellow or red. Or maybe just red shoes!

I'd also be tempted to try it over dresses - rather than trying to make a suit look out of it. I think tailored blazers look great with jeans and a silk top ...I see you don't own any jeans, but would you be interested in adding a pair to your wardrobe? I personally find double breasted jackets tough to work with ...who wants to wear one all buttoned up? Yet leaving it hanging open often adds width. This one looks quite streamlined though - and I hope it works for you!

Sterling - For me this is a regular length blazer (33" or longer is long). So not only is it gorgeous!!! (lucky girl!!) but incredibly versatile. I would wear anything but a true flare or bootcut which I thinks looks best with a shorter blazer. But it's in that middle length that it might work anyway. Just pull out everything in your closet and try it on. (Check out http://www.alterationsneeded.com. She loves pin stripes and wears them really well. I know she has similar. I think you will get some amazing styling ideas!!) I think skirt knee (I prefer just above, because they lighten the visual length. Midi skirt/short jackets, knee mini longer jackets in general and same with dresses. Super nice piece - I hope you really enjoy it!!

I haven't worn this length, but I was going to suggest the same as Suz. Generally, when I look at proportions, I try to have one part of my outfit be 1.5 to 2 times as long as the other half. I would just try to avoid cutting yourself in half with the blazer.

i haven't added a long blazer...YET...but i did collect quite a few when Angie wrote that blog post a few weeks ago. i think it will all come down to the silouhette of the bottoms. i would think that a slim pant would act the same way a pair of skinny or straight jeans would. not sure about this with a midi lenght skirt...i think it would depend on how comfortable you are with long on long...i used to wear that a lot "back in the day"...i think the best thing to do is try a couple of outfits and see how you feel

This is exceptionally helpful, Kathie. Thank you for finding it for me.

I think what I am going to have to do it actually try the blazer on with the two pair of navy ankle length slacks I own.

This blog post was helpful. Though, I did realize that right now wasn’t the time to add a long blazer to my own wardrobe, because I’m not ready to commit to the extra pieces needed to style it.

It's beautiful and very tempting! I can't wait to see it on you, Sterling.

I would think it would work well with ankle pants and potentially with a midi length skirt also, depending on the style of the midi and your footwear.

It is a GREAT blazer, Jenn. It would look great with jeans.

I don't own any jeans at this time so that is not an option for me.

Watching with interest, as I also have this blazer on order. For me, it will have to work with jeans and, even then, may be too formal for my lifestyle.

I bought this blazer and it fits me perfectly. I am beyond thrilled with it, but before I commit to it, I want to make sure it works with my existing wardrobe (i.e., I don't want to have to buy coordinating pieces at this time to make this blazer work for me).

I own two pair of navy ankle-length pants. I own one midi-length skirt in navy. Right now, I don't own any jeans ... of any length.

What proportions are people wearing these longer blazers with right now?
