Liesbeth -- yes, my impression is that the kids in the NYC art world feel that any attempt at "conventionally flattering" is passé and/or bourgeois.   I do not feel this way, nor am I in my 20s where I'll look fresh and amazing no matter what I wear. I bought the pictured overalls late last year in a fit of nostalgia. I couldn’t figure out how I would wear them, though, and ended up returning them. I probably would look silly trying to dress like art school students (much MUCH older) but I like the thought of someone challenging my perceptions. I agree with maybe a voluminous top with the bodysuit bottom attached. Personally, my straps tend to fall off my shoulders even when pulled up to the highest setting! NB I do like to wear an oversized (for me, so still pretty fitted) sweater under my jumpsuit, though the jumpsuit is fitted. I like that contrast. Not too much crumpling with a cropped version. I trust DS's view of what's cool to NYC art school kids, but I don't think he trusts my need not to look like a cinder block. It fits smoothly underneath and doesn’t bunch. And you can wear a skimpy top without feeling too exposed, like the model in the photo. I had been wearing them with a snugly fitted top beneath to counter the bagginess and my son claimed I was misunderstanding the whole vibe of this garment. How would you all style something like this?
