I find varying texture is the best bet, but as Colette said you can also add little "spacers" such as a belt, a printed top, etc. to separate the black items a bit.

I agree with the suggestion to either break the pieces up or increase the textural contrast.

I'll wear a black sparkly patterned t-shirt semi tucked into a pair of black jeans with a silver belt.

Or I might wear a black tank dress over a black t-shirt. There is some gathering around the neckline which adds texture. I have worn a black chiffon-y tank with black pants.

I would never wear two pieces that were the same type of fabric (suiting for example) but different shades of black. That's when it does become obvious.
I have this same problem and I agree that different texture is the way to go. One trick I've used is to tuck in my shirt and use a wider belt as a bridge. But there are just some blacks that don't seem to work together no matter what.

I think if the textures are too similar one item will always look more "faded" so I make sure the textures are different.

I'm trying not to buy anymore black as I think I'm the one starting to look faded in it:)

I try not to wear them as a "suit" but in other cases like black denim with a black top I guess I'd add a belt to "separate" the items. And accessories like scarves, jewelry can probably help too. I don't often do black on black except maybe black pants with a black belt. Interested to hear other thoughts...

This is a fantastic question, especially because blacks can look like a match in certain light but not others. Thanks for asking!

Is there is a special trick to wearing black separates that weren't bought at the same time and from the same range and are therefore different shades?

The only solution I can think of is perhaps if they are of different fabric textures. Is there any other way to combine?
