Thanks Angie I really liked the shoes and didn't want to give up on them just because of this small issue!

It's not essential to wear lined shoes at all.

Makes sense Doro! I haven't owned enough shoes to be able to tell if my big toe would wear these out

Kirti, I just thought of something that could be a drawback: If you have had the experience that your big toe is very visible in the creases of older shoes, or if your big toe has rubbed through any other shoes' lining, then that could also be the case with those un-lined oxfords.

You're welcome (I'm still looking forward to more answers on this topic now!)

Doro: These seemed pretty thin to me, kind of like jazz shoes, but pretty comfortable nonetheless! I looked on the site and for most of the other shoes, they say 'lined with textile' or 'lined with leather' or 'synthetic lining', so these seem to be completely unlined.

Thanks for helping

Kirti, the link seems to be to a linen espandrille shoe, not leather? Maybe if it says "not lined", they mean "not lined with fabric"?

With leather shoes, I have always had the experience that they are either lined with fabric (sometimes for warmth), or lined with thinner or softer leather. However, I recently got a pair of Jonny's Kassel boots, and they are only lined with thin leather in the foot area, and the upper inch of the shaft - the whole shaft area is unlined, which surprised me a little (I'm still keeping them, super comfortable and great boots for spring). So to sum up: No idea! :D
I always assumed there should be some sort of lining. I think if the shoes didn't have a thick outer leather, or were uncomfortable to wear without socks, then it would be a deal breaker.

Looking forward to more answers! I'm curious now

I was just looking at the two toned oxfords and I noticed that the description says they are 'not lined'. Is that a deal breaker for leather shoes? I went back and looked at my Clarks oxfords and they do have a cloth lining, so I'm wondering if a lining is a must.

ETA: link isn't working, so I'm reattaching the pic I took!
