For hot days I liked loose floaty tops with lots of extra fabric. I never had a formal nursing cover but would use either a thin scarf or a Aden and Anais gauze blanket for extra coverage. I used nursing bras and would tuck the scarf/blanket in my bra strap of the opposite side I was nursing on leaving the other side to cover as needed. A wide rim hat on baby also provides coverage, a trick from a friend.

Once nursing was well established I used these tanks almost exclusively. They worked extremely well for me and lasted all 18 months I nursed DS#2. I wish I had had them for DS#1!
http://www.mommygear.com/majam.....g-cami.htm
I loved the fact they didnt have clips, just pull down. I always wore a top over them (even in the heat) that I pulled up and then pulled down the cami top. I felt the least exposed in this way and hardly even needed any cover (or maybe just a light blanket).
I was always too clumsy to manage a true nursing cover, lol! I felt like everyone was staring as I tried to get it all adjusted. Same with teh bras with clips. With the above arrangement, it was often hard to tell I was nursing at all.

elpgal :: very useful point about keeping the latching on process as private as possible with the cover.

++ Sarah. I found it easiest to wear a camisole (one for nursing or just a stretchy one) under normal shirts, usually in a similar color tone. That way I could just lift the shirt up (thus covering the top of the breast) and pull the camisole down (thus covering my postpartum belly).

Nursing covers draw a lot of attention. Instead I would sometimes wear a wider scarf for extra coverage if needed. And I was a 34H while breastfeeding so it was frequently needed :).

Nursing covers are the best option. If baby requires a lot of help to latch, nursing covers keep everything under wraps. But I found them really hot and stuck with loose banded tops.

If I knew I was going to have to nurse while out and about I would wear a cami with stretchy straps with a looser shirt on top I would pull shirt up and the cami down to nurse and my stomach was still fully covered. I found most nursing specific tops either too lowcut for normal wear or too complicated to get open while holding baby.

I am currently nursing, although I work from home so modesty is usually less of a concern. When my babies were little (under 6 months or so), they didn't have much patience, so something that you can shift for easy access is probably best (deep v-neck, cross-over wrap-style tops, loose cowl necks). I avoided button downs because they took too long to undo and re-do.
As they got older, nursing becomes less frequent so you have more flexibility. But at that age they do tend to begin resisting a cover. My 10-month will pull off a cover and it draws more attention to keep fighting to keep him covered. Honestly, I usually just find a private area to nurse him (but that's just my comfort level and I support any mom who nurses openly). A lot of my friends wore nursing camisoles under regular (looser) tops. Shirt goes up, camisole comes down and most everything stays covered.

I layered a nursing tank under button down shirts, loose knits, and roomy sweaters. The nursing tank keeps your wiggly parts contained and then you can wear anything that is easy to lift over the top. For your sister that may mean another looser layering tank given her climate. Nevermind the fact that you typically run warm afterwards and are sweating all the water weight off!

What Angie said. I just bought a cute nursing cover and used that. It worked really well in the early months before she refused to stay underneath.

You can get them in a ton of colors and patterns. Or, if you are even remotely crafty, you can probably make one.

Some of my friends in this position bought special nursing tops. Some bought tops with wrap V-necks for easy bra access. But most of them stuck to tops that were flattering around their midriff and just wore a nursing cover.

I found a nursing cover really helpful. My feminist / pro BF friends scoffed at the idea one had to cover nursing up, but that was not the issue. The issue was my floppy post partum stomach that wasn't fully contained by my jeans, etc. The cover allowed me to wear basically what I wanted and feel covered and comfortable. I'm sure a gauzy scarf could be used in the same way but the nursing cover did have some design advantages so that it stayed put easily. I haven't looked lately but etsy sellers and other small brands should have them in nice fabrics.

:) Your title will grab a lot of attention
I think Goldenpig probably has good more current advice than I do. It's been awhile for me, but I liked nursing tanks from glamourmom (but Gap, Target and tons of others carries their own versions). Gap has tons of tops and not too pricey.
If you want to get her a treat these were my favorite jammies ever (I still wear them if you want to know the truth - they are soooo soft)
https://www.majamas.com/shop/i.....-sleepwear

Not for me :-D

I'm trying to help my stylish sister to create a small capsule of nursing friendly tops.

Thinking back to 'my days' what worked for me best were stretchy tee shirts worn under the deep V-neck cardigans. I'd pull the shirt up, the cardigan still kept tummy and back covered and it worked really well. That formula is still not possible for my sister as she lives in the hot climate and layering is out of question for a while, but will be one option for later.

Can you ladies please share your best dressing tips and best styles? I'm completely uninspired and I also believe things have moved style-wise in the last few years wince I was browsing relevant websites. Links and visuals would be of great help too. Thanks in advance.
