I would find a cami/tank that works to wear under it. Aziraphale summed up the issue nicely.

It's not just the problem of bra strap peekage if the top is voluminous and the neck is very open. There's also the problem of bending over and showing the whole world your boobies.

I look for garments that have those little loops in the shoulder seams, and loop those around my bra strap. No tape! I think stronger shoulder lines also tend to help with these types of garments.

Opening the top button or two on the button-up gives you a v-neck. You mentioned using a scarf on higher necks, and a pendant can serve the same purpose of giving a visual V.

Ahh, this makes sense. I'll watch for that cut, Angie. I've also been relying on more button ups, which helps the problem.

Voluminous styles often have a higher neck for exactly that reason. It helps keep the garment on the body in the same place.

V-necks that are cut low in front, but close to the shoulder neck point are a good way to go.

I like that idea, Jenn. Taping my clothes to me just seems unappealing for everyday wear.

I'm not a fan of higher necklines either, and I hate fashion tape, so my suggestion would be a silky tank that will allow the top layer to glide.

Fashion tape was going to be my suggestion as well.

ETA: I should have added that sometimes this issue keeps me from wearing the item - I'm not very patient when it comes to using extra tricks and fashion tape doesn't always work exactly right. It might keep the part taped too stationery, defeating the drape in that spot to a fault.

Another thing I do sometimes is buy pretty bras in colors that go with my outfits that are deep plunge style (bralettes actually for me but same difference). As long as it only slightly peeks out when I bend or move too much, I'm good. If it's going to show the whole time, the garment probably just won't work for me.

I use fashion tape to hold the neckline where I want it.

As I've been shopping for new silhouettes I've noticed I'm having a bear of a time finding deeper necklines with voluminous shapes. I had wondered if it was an issue of physics, being that the drapier items need the smaller neckline to keep them from flopping all over the place. This theory was confirmed yesterday when I got a cocoon dress with a deeper vneck. The dress looked exactly like I'd envisioned, but throughout the day, when I'd happen by a mirror I'd notice the neckline had shifted enough that my bra strap was showing. I considered that I could layer a fitted tank under the dress, but when I've done that in the past the two fabrics stick to each other and some of the ease and flow of the top garment is lost.

Is there a trick I don't know about? The only thing I can come up with is to wear scarves over higher necklines to give a different proportion.
