k can shop - THANK YOU!!!

This is HUGELY helpful.

I am not sure if it over emphasizes your shoulder line, but it looks different here than in the pics, for sure - a much longer line in front than I somehow imagined.

I'm actually short waisted, so if anything it would be more exaggerated on me. I think I will pass on it.

Many, many thanks!!

Off to check your thread.

Pictures from my try on last night.... (with worlds least flattering white tee)

I am inclined to agree with Angie that the front may be challenging for a gal with a long neck. I do like that the back collar wraps around a little and comes in. I don't think that that comes through in the photo online. That little detail may save it for you.
I think the length actually isn't bad for our height (we're close enough to each other that the proportions should be close to the same). However, if you have a long neck, do you also have a longer waist? I notice that short necks and short waists go together. Would the length accentuate a longer waist? Not sure.

Although I love this jacket, I think I'm taking it back. I think the v is too wide for me and it accentuates the breadth of my shoulders. I'll post as a keep return to see what everyone else sees--objectivity is nice!

Sylvie, thank you - that is so helpful. And so generous of you to take the time!!

I thought from looking at it that it was a 3rd piece for sure. And that is sort of how I intended it - in my climate that is probably more practical, to tell you the truth. Because while if I lived in Vancouver or Seattle I might wear leather as outerwear a lot, here, without a quilted lining, it's not really do-able. I think Sveta wears her leather jackets both ways, but primarily as a 3rd piece indoors.

I am still undecided mainly because of the neckline. Angie is very astute about these things.

Suz, I tried on your jacket. (I was going to the store to make some returns anyway)

The Trouve size chart would put me in a 6 and I had to size up to a medium.

I'm 5'3" and shortwaisted. I felt comfortable with the length and it didn't overwhelm me.

The jacket was tight around my armpits and therefore it did not fall nicely on me. Since you are not built as sturdily as I am, I think you will be fine.

(Retracted statement about jacket not being good for curvy people based on k can shop's report. I don't know much about how leather relaxes/stretches so it is entirely possible that it might relax with wearing and have been able to work on me)

The leather is very light. This is definitely a "third piece" that just happens to be made out of leather rather than an outerwear piece.

I love it. It is gorgeous! My hesitation is that since this is your first leather jacket, you might need something that can close more securely, with a zipper perhaps. My thumbs are up if you don't mind the limited wearability. You might not be able to wear it as outerwear. Also, the longer length in front is sometimes tricky to figure out with skirts.

Wow, I can't wait to see you in these things. I love those leopard shoes btw. The leather jacket is gorgeous but I had some concerns the collar. I would have never been able to articulate them as Angie did. But with Nordstrom's return policy it is worth trying - the color is amazing. I love the tube skirt for you. Sorry stream of consciousness approach here, I am a bit scatter brained this morning.

Thanks, Astrid. I've checked Danier. So far, didn't find anything I liked. The ones I like tend to be black (alas....)

I'm not 100% convinced that this neckline would be as bad for me as it might seem. I need to think about it a bit. I agree with Angie that one with a collar would be ideal, and better. Alas, I haven't found such a thing.

In the end I may exercise the 3 Ps and wait.

Wow, that one is cool! Suz, I think Angie made a really good point, I didn't even think about the neckline. But you need to be totally comfortable with the jacket on its own, like you said, it wouldn't make sense to cover a great neckline like that up. I'm sure you'll find the perfect one! Have you looked at Danier? They are Canadian, right? I remember looking through their site once when somebody linked to it and they had great stuff.

Ooh, this is a gorgeous jacket, and definitely everyone needs a leather jacket. I did have the same concern as Angie about the neckline though - this type of wide, low, dramatic lapel is something that I would wear with my short neck, short waist, and sloping shoulders, plus I am not nearly as tiny as you. I think the lapels might be overwhelming on your frame.

Argh! Alas.

I fear Angie may be right. For me, this jacket might not be the best.

I DO wear collarless styles sometimes....but with my denim collarless jacket I always fill it with a scarf. With this jacket, a scarf would interfere with the detail. And just look silly.

Hmmm. I am going to need to ponder some more.

Cinnamon Fern...that is very interesting about the VC top. I have always quite LIKED myself in a V back...assuming the V is the right shape, of course...but maybe I am deluded! Is the front V super wide? It's weird...I can wear SOME Vs very successfully, and some...er....NOT. The thing is, I would probably wear a scarf a lot of the time with this top. So I'm not sure it would matter.

Makrame, thank you! I will put those things on my wish list, too, just in case!

Texstyle - you're right. This jacket doesn't look super practical. Certainly not for outerwear. But in my climate, this would rarely be outerwear. It would be for inside more than outside.

Angie, thank you SO much for weighing in. I wish I could wait until Denise has checked it out. She is close to my height, I think? But k can shop is only an inch taller (or a little less than an inch) - I am somewhere around 5' 4" - but sometimes measure at 5' 5" and sometimes 5' 3" ...You know?

Anyway...She didn't seem to think the length was a problem. I measured some of my other jackets that I love and several are about 25" in the front - but those are ones I wear with trousers more than dresses. I was hoping this jacket would be versatile and wearable with both, but I'd primarily wear with trousers.

I totally agree about the collar, though... it IS an issue, for sure. I might always be wanting to fill that space.

It's the same issue with the sweater, but with the sweater, I'd fill with a scarf, or wear it (maybe?) over a button down....

Hmmm. More pondering. Maybe more shopping, too.

Will be fascinated to see what you say about those pumps. Pumps are SO HARD for me. They are super leg lengthening and so I love them for that. But they never stay on me. So I was curious about this elastic feature.

Are these out of line with my style goals, do you think? I am a bit confused. I thought maybe I could make them work, because they would bookend my hair in a fun way, inject a bit of "warm" into my otherwise quite cool wardrobe, work with my LBD and with dark wash skinnies, and maybe even my BF jeans, and also with my black pencil skirt, my black jersey midi, and maybe the navy tube skirt. Plus my grey skirt. And my black slim pants.

*face palm* Of COURSE you need a leather jacket! Why didn't I think of that earlier? I don't think I realized you didn't have one. An indoor leather jacket for you would be the perfect thing to edge up your pretty winter dresses or anything you fear borders on staid.

I wouldn't have been bold enough to mention it, and I didn't know why I didn't like the lapels until Angie said something, but I think she's right. The collar and front side plackets look like they would be extremely neck and torso lengthening, which I'm not sure you want. I could definitely see you in a traditional cropped moto with asymmetrical collar though, in lovely shade like navy or burgundy. Good luck with your hunt!

Suz, since I am your fellow short-haired giraffe neck - I ordered that VC top and returned it - it looked great from the front, but from the back I looked all neck and shoulders. I am not sure why a wide v-neck in back is so much worse than a wide v-neck in front, but on me it is.

Suz, I am not sure if you are aware of Nordstrom price adjustment policy. They will do a price adjustment if something goes on sale within 2 weeks of your purchase date (and even a bit later). This applies to any items that drop in price, even if it was on sale when you bought it. The only exception is if something is completely out of stock, they may not be able to price adjust.

Since many of the pieces you are looking at are fall merchandise, I suspect they may go on sale soon (in fact, some of the NAS items are 30% off now as you can see). When you place your order, it may be good to add the same items to a wishlist on the website and check the prices again in a week or two after placing the order.

Gorgeous jacket, BTW! Although as someone who does not have a leather jacket yet, I am wondering about the practicalities of an open-front jacket vs. one that zips up.

The jacket is very pretty and if you're ordering other stuff, I guess why not try it to see for yourself. I have one leather jacket but it is very classic in every way. Deep chocolate brown, zip and snap front. Good seaming and tailoring and good pockets (for me I "need" pockets for a leather jacket to work - I don't know why but I just do). And finally, a collar I can "pop" up if it's really cold out. The one you're considering is stunning but it may not be as practical. Not sure if that helps - I guess I'm not enabling as much as others. But leather jackets are expensive so it is a big decision for me at least.

Suz, I'm just going to comment on the blue leather jacket for now:

- It's a beautiful piece.

- Perfect colour.

- Not sure I love the length for your petite self.

- Not sure I love the lack of collar for your long neck and short hair. A collared style with a high neckline is a slam dunk.

- It's a nice weight to layer under coats.

- I like that it's tailored.

- I like the simplicity of the lines.

My wardrobe doesn't function without cropped leather jackets - and neither does Gregs. For us, they are wardrobe essentials.

There! More thoughts to ponder :)

Suz, I love everything you chose except the shoe. It seems out of line with the other choices to me, plus the climate issues are going to restrict how you can wear them. I'm sorry if I'm confusing you - tell me to back off any time, I'm just so excited about this little journey of yours!

Good info. I can't abide anything straining at my shoulders. Weird about the sleeve length - lots of styles seem to have that recently. Was just reading the same commentary about the Mackage coat from NAS.

K can shop - Of COURSE I don't mind a jacket twin. Heck, I don't mind YLF jacket octuplets, if it comes to that! We should ALL have this gorgeous jacket. As long as we don't all order the same size!!

Thank you so much for those fit details. It sounds as if I am really better off with the small. I'll bet I need to shorten the sleeves, which will add to the already considerable cost, alas. But not much to be done about that.

Would love to hear what you thought of it.

Una, I will gladly post my other cart items!

I am ordering the Angie recommended scarf and sweater (the zip back one). http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/on.....hoppingbag

So far, I have chosen the amethyst but I could be persuaded to order the teal instead.

http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/ha.....rf/3269843

I have the Vince Camuto tube midi:

http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/vi.....hoppingbag

The Angie recommended satchel http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/st.....hoppingbag

The Vince Camuto top: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/vi.....hoppingbag

I am pretty confident about all of those. The one I'm wondering about is the shoes:

http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/vi.....hoppingbag

I think a bootie would probably be smarter in terms of my winter climate and lifestyle, not to mention style goals. But I wasn't crazy about the bootie style of this. I would like something with a print, I think - or at any rate, something interesting.

Got to run to get my daughter a snack, but back soon!

Una, yup, tried it on! Quality is very decent for the price. It looks nice, expensive nice. Very thin leather. The color is almost a little gray, which I love in navy. It pushes it toward denim, rather than straight blue. Color dye job looked consistent and even. Shoulder fit was good for us IT girls. I know that you are an IT like me and that you have beautiful strong arms from rock climbing, so I'd choose the larger of your two regular sizes. The side panels are stretchy, though, so they could stretch. The SA seemed to think even the medium would relax enough for me. BIG CONSIDERATION: What might be a killer for the love between this jacket and you is the sleeve length. You're petite, right? The sleeves are long. I'm 5'5" and they are very long on me. If Suz gives me the okay to be her jacket twin, I'll check into alterations tonight.

Suz, would you care to post the rest of what you're throwing in the cart? : )

k can shop, you tried this on? How was the quality? Is it just as beautiful as it looks? And how was the shoulder fit? and most importantly, did you buy it?!

It's possible that I will also order this jacket. I'm not keeping everything that's in the mail, but in "returns and exchanges math" I am WAY ahead right now.

Ummm, so Suz...(awkward)...would you mind terribly if I copy catted you with this jacket? I'm absolutely in love with it too! And I have valuable information to exchange for the privilege of being your jacket twin....

They had this in stock at my local, so at lunch I dropped in to try it on. Innocently. Entirely out of good will because you, Suz, are so tirelessly positive and wonderful and a great blog forum contributor who has helped me on more than one occasion. Then all my good intentions went to..heck...because I tried this jacket on and loved it! But at least I can offer valuable fit information after a first hand try one. As to fit: This fit pretty standard across the shoulders and body. It runs thin through the arms. I am usually between a medium and a large in most items, generally choosing a medium for a very fitted look. In this one, I had to size up to large to make it work for my arms. However, I have huge mommy arms. I would guess that you could wear your normal size in this, because you have lovely slim arms. However, if you want to layer say a tissue weight cashmere sweater and tee under it, then the larger of your normal size range should work. Does that help?

Oh my goodness, you are all such wonderful enablers. I have it in my shopping cart and will probably pull the trigger this evening. I am going through every item that I'm throwing in that cart and giving it the Angie: Item/Outfits/Capsule test, and also asking myself: Does this take me in the style direction I want to go? The jacket definitely fits the bill. I have a few other pieces in the cart I am less sure about.

I've also just been through my closet looking at what I have for fall that is still in reasonable shape - which I realize is not a whole lot. So I feel less guilty about making a few purchases.

Though if I could find the perfect layering Ts I'd be in heaven, because I do depend on those a lot in fall/winter to put outfits together.

Una, in North American sizes, I usually take a 4P. So I am going to go up to the small in this. I don't have thick shoulders (and I have zero bust) but I do have WIDE shoulders, if that makes sense. The bones are relatively small but they are widely spaced.

Freckles, from the looks of this jacket I'd wear it as indoor wear in winter (over a top) and as indoor/outdoor wear in fall and spring.

It is great advice to call Nordies to ask them to measure, Gaylene and Elle. I should probably do that.

Denise, I'd love if you took a look! I will probably order tonight though to make sure it gets to the relatives' place in time.

Thank you all for being so encouraging!

Suz, yes you need a leather jacket! This one seems perfect for the direction you're wanting to take your style. It looks arty but structured, unique but not bizarre. I think you should try it! Crossing my fingers that it fits!

And kudos to Una for a great find! Isn't YLF great?

It's a beautiful jacket Suz and it seems to have the qualities you were looking for in your last two thrifted pieces that weren't quite right. I think the leather actually works really well for this as it has just a suggestion of drape with structure being the backbone.

How much of the year do you think you would wear it? Would it be too cold using as a blazer in winter?

Of course you need a leather jacket. Now that didn't take me long to think about!

I have been on the hunt for a cascade jacket myself and pinned this on my board a few days ago. I will be in San Francisco thursday through Sunday, I can check it out if you like (and I just might pick one up for myself).
