Thanks Angie! So you wouldn't get the burgundy ones because of the nose pads? I could look in some of their other stores, but I've now been to three and feel like I've seen most of their stuff (they're chain stores after all). Of course I can always keep wearing my old ones and look some other time.

ETA

I could use the 100€ to get the black ones with inexpensive lenses, which would be very little expense. I still have to ask for the concrete numbers, but it shouldn't be much. That way I'd have a pair to change things up with my current pair, or I'd have one if mine finally gives out. The burgundy ones are more of an expense, I think they're probably not the right ones or I wouldn't be hesitating.

ETA2

I'm going to ask tomorrow if they have the black frames in a different color or could order them.

Thanks approprio! I think that's going to be a difficult decision... I do think the CK are prettier and I definitely like the color better on me than the black, but you're right that the black ones are sharper. And also less expensive. I've had resin frames since 2007, now (my last two pairs). Before that I always had metal frames with nose pads. I think it's going to be quite the change, but I've managed well in the past, so why should now be different.

I prefer the burgundy, definitely. Like Suz, I find the notepads too visible on the style of these specs (rimless bottom).

I really like both of these and I'd be hard pressed to pick a favourite. I love the colour and shape of the CK's on you, but somehow the InVogue ones read a bit sharper?

One thing I would say is that I definitely favour resin frames over metal ones, because I'm a bit irritated by those little nose pad things. Purely a personal thing, and not a deal breaker. I've had some lovely metal frames over the years.

Thanks Diane! Although I shouldn't pick my frames based on the dark clothes, it's still the goal to lighten my wardrobe up overall. Slowly but surely. I like the idea of purple, but there wasn't any available that looked good shapewise. I think I tried everything that wasn't black (and some black ones besides).

ETA

Of course I could look in other stores, but I only started looking for new specs to start with because there I get the 100€ markdown. I don't want to spend money on expensive frames elsewhere.

Thanks Denise. No question, the black ones would work too... I'm going to revisit the store tomorrow together with the friend I mentioned in the beginning, I'm looking forward to hearing what he thinks about them. Another friend of mine I sent the pictures to also preferred the black ones. Oh and I have to say, the black ones are a lot cheaper too.

I love #2 burgundy pair on you! I think the black are a nice and edgy. But something about the shape and lines of pair #2 just looks really pretty, feminine, but still with some oomph to stand out.

I think it depends on what you want and love!

Spanner here. I prefer the high contrast black glasses on you, more dramatic. Yes it's true your coloring is low contrast but you are young with a pretty face so you can pull off a more dramatic look.

Now, whether you WANT a more dramatic look is another thing.

Thanks Archer - interesting that you see me as edgy, because I would never describe myself with that term. Straight across the top always looks bad on me, I don't like those looks at all. And I wouldn't say a lot of frames suit me either, I don't have a natural "glasses face". Also, it's very difficult to get my eyes centered, most glasses (especially plastic) are too low on me, so my eyes are in the upper third of the frames with massive free space below (when they're sitting as high as my nose allows).

I did say that. I think you have an edgy personality. Am I right?
You have a great little pixie face and need glasses that are chic - i.e. classic with a twist- would really suit you.
Have you tried any that are straight across the top and wider on the face, or a a luxurious tortoiseshell but in a modern frame - wide oblong with slightly rounded corners. Stuff the eye centring. That cones after you get the look. You have a naturally gorgeous face and style and you can carry off anything on the face!!

Suz, I mean when the frames don't lift... it's hard to describe. Below is a picture from try ons in 2011, see what I mean? And a lot of frames that look perfectly fine on the wall do that when I'm wearing them. I guess the thing with the nose pads is that somehow plastic frames (which usually come without nose pads) have become the more fashionable choice. I'm personally not bothered by them. Only my last two pairs of specs were plastic, I always had metal frames with nose pads before that (so from about 5 years old until 17 or 18 years old).

Astrid, when you say "droopy" what do you mean? I am wondering if the bridge size is too large for you. I commonly have this problem with specs because my nose has a relatively flat bridge so everything slides. I finally discovered a bridge measurement for myself that works (more or less) on many pairs (not all). You may need specs for a petite face?

I quite like the pair in pic #2. Having said that...I do find the nose pads a bit much here visually, especially with the rimless bottom. (Somehow that draws more attention to the pads). This opinion may be influenced by the fact that I personally find nose pads very uncomfortable, but then my prescription was quite high and my specs heavy even with extra thin lenses.

(By the way, I had both plastic and metal frames with nose pads...one pair of each on my last set of specs and while I loved how the nose padded ones stayed in place, they also gave me a headache earlier in the day so I could only wear them for limited periods. Again, this may be specific to my rather high and complext prescription.)

AM, I agree with you. #5 is definitely severe in comparison, with the more angular look and the black of course. The first pair is more feminine, which I like. And of course the color goes well with my coloring. I have a soft summer coloring and my style descriptors are simple, grounded and feminine. Although I have to work a bit more on that part of my style, I've neglected that a bit.

Good choices. I prefer the ones features in image #2. They feel playful, have a feminine quality, and do that chic nerdy look well. They are also softer than the other frames presented. I do like the frames in #5 but they feel a bit sever to me. And I'm liking the softer more feminine quality of frame #2. How do you feel in these?

Thanks Lyn, AM and Isabel! I've just come back from another store, where I tried everything that looked even remotely like an option - or so it felt like. No nice plastic frames available, though. I would say 80% of the plastic frames are out from the start because they have a too big drop (vertical height) and something else is always off with the rest. Most of the time they're droopy.

I found another two metal frames I liked, though. The first ones are basically like those from the very start, just that they're partly rimless and pink. The other ones are black and I first wasn't quite sure about them, but I think they're worth showing. (Excuse the bad pictures, again...)

I do have one question for those who said I would need something more interesting, edgy etc. What exactly are you thinking of? Because I'm not buying Hipster glasses.

The new ones do look good and while I like the bit of color on your current ones, without is a little more elegant, which I like, and I don't think conflicts with your style overall. They look as though they do have a little detail, so they're not made heavy or cheerless by their lack of color.
I do think you've done an amazing job of finding a flattering shape and weight of frame and my only objection to these is the nose pads. Maybe try to find exactly the same thing with no pads because honestly, I think they look great.

They are right in theory (follow curve of brow, centered eye), but I don't think they are an accessory in a way they will ADD to your style. I'd like to see a slightly thicker frame and a color. A color doesn't have to be bright and overpowering. What about navy or teal?

Astrid, you can have nose pads attached to plastic frames! They did it in store for me - both on my new specs and my shades. It was done in max 15 minutes.

I like no 3 on you best but IMP none of them is edgy enough for you.

Thanks Denise! I do think color is a good idea, but I I don't want to go too bright either. My natural contrast is rather low and frames are wearing "me" more often than I'm wearing them.

So, 1 and 2 are your current frames? I don't see 3 and 4 being that different looking. Am I frame-blind? Perhaps.

I LOVE Angie's idea of going for something more colorful or brighter, to lighten up your darker clothes. Hmmm apple green, now where have I seen that before?

Thanks Gauche. I would probably not be looking right now if not for the promotion, but it's too good to pass up.

Thanks Angie! I don't think I've come across plastic frames with nosepads before. I think I know what you mean about the frames being less strict. I might have time for some more looking later today. Maybe I'll find something worth taking pictures of.

Thanks Deborah! Definitely love the shape #3.

Thanks Sharan! Yes, the first two pics show my existing specs. I've shown the store pics for shape/size, I didn't consider really getting those.
