From the front I would say yes have them altered -- it appears you have some sagging in the rear. Your alteration may not be in the hips but possibly from the waist band down an inch or two -- you may need darts. That alteration could effect the overall length. The loose fit in the hip area is only emphasized by the sweater laying over the trousers in #2. I agree with Angie it's hard to tell with only a front view.

Yes, I will post it later today. These pants definitely need to be altered in the back - they do that "smile" thing in the butt - I will be removing the waistband, taking in the back butt seam, and altering the waistband. It also has back pockets which I will be removing (making them faux). None of the other alterations should affect the thigh area, though.

May I see them from the side and back, Karie?

Sorry to be a mare. I am very particular about fit and need to see all views before commenting accurately.

A pair of well fitting dress pants is my ultimate HEWI. This is a pair of dress pants I purchased last fall (I was lured in by the fact that they are long enough at regular length). Should I alter the thighs or does this quality as a fluid fit?

They are a navy/wine/brown houndstooth print. I have my sweater folded up in the first photo so you can see them better. The second photo is with the sweater at regular length.
