Anne, I am a 'cool' person as in blue eyed and fairish skinned, and my hair was fair as a child. This colour should be O.K. for you, but you could always try it against your skin when you are next out shopping, and note wether or not it suits your skin-tone. See if it washes you out or gives you a rosy lift, and decide from there. If you want me to sent the top to you, just P.M. me your details and I will post it to you. If it doesn't work out there is no harm done- just pass it on to a friend or donate etc. If it does work-out you owe me a coffee if ever we meet-up!
Have a great Friday.

Lyn, you are a very generous lady. My only concern is whether I can carry off burgundy - have never worn it near my face? Any opinions?

Anne, I was just about to give away a burgundy/red cowl neck, 3/4 sleeve top I bought this year but don't really need. If you are interested I am happy to take a photo to show you. If you think it might work for you (it is a size Medium and the length is on the long side) I would be happy to give it away-free to a good home!

Love that top! And yikes $100 does seem a bit steep for what it is. I bought a very similar top last winter in Rivers!!! Maybe take a look around as I am sure this look will be available elsewhere. And Lyn is right any figure type can wear a form fitting look and have it look amazing x

Here is a top that I like that might be the way I 'd like to go
http://www.ezibuy.com.au/women.....84576.shtm
Unfortunately $100 for a top is not really in my budget!

Deborah and Lyn D - thanks for the nice comments re my figure (the weight gain is recent, so you haven't seen it in my pics!)
Deborah I do agree that length and type of fabric makes a differerence with waist surrender. I have one top that I think is just about perfect - but a couple of inches longer and it would be better. The other issue I have is trying to make the most of a very small bust - some items are quite flattening - the weight of a longer top that hangs from the shoulder without a yoke, for example.

I should have said above that there were a few outfits from the photos that were more form fitting and they looked immediately and obvoiusly better ( including one in a maxidress, interestingly!)

Lyn D - I know what you mean about the 80s! I remember going on school camp in 1986 and being glad I had one loose t shirt (but the other 2 were unfashionably tight). The trendy kids had ALL loose tshirts!

Anne, when I look back at photos from earlier still- the eighties, I also think that all the baggy stuff was not so great. I agree with Deborah re. your figure, but a person of any size can look super-Fab in more fitted clothing-think Kari for example. So lets wait for Angie's input and go for it!

Anne I just wanted to say that I think you have a lovely figure as is (no weight loss requred) and the right form fitting pieces would look lovely on you. Thinking about your comment re boxy styles, and I wonder if the fabrics have something to do with you not liking this look? I find boxy cuts in soft drapey fabrics look better on my frame than boxy cuts in stiffer fabrics.. just a thought. Also the length of the said garment seems to make a difference too. Waist surrender styles can look so elegant or funky and edgy so I am glad you are not giving them up entirely.

Looking forward to Angie's advice here.

ETA just realised NAS isn't over as I innocently thought! I am going to post this later, when Angie isn't so busy!
1) Angie, you wrote recently
"But at the same time, form fitting clothing is also on trend"

When you have time, could you expand a little on what sort of trends this covers, and in particular if the trend is mainly in fitted office/dressy wear (as one of the comments said, and my brief survey of shops would tend to agree) or if it could include casual looks

2) I spend a lot of time last week at my Mum's looking back through through family photos from the early 90s and came to the conclusion that I really do look better in looks that are fitted in the torso. I couldn't believe how bad I looked in boxy clothes when I am sure I had a reasonable figure under there. So I have decided to go back to that look.
It won't be for a while (need to lose some weight) and won't be entirely as I will still waist surrender (just got given 2 WS dresses, for example) sometimes, but I think that is the direction I want to explore. Thus my question about how to do it fashionably.
