Sorry ladies, we had a stormy weekend which meant no internet. The perils of living in a rural area, I suppose. I truly appreciate all the feedback, and I've been busy reading through each piece. Now to apply it!

Suz, I appreciate you coming back to my posts. I think the style works fairly well with my denim jacket, but probably not for gallery openings. I don't have a blazer. Orginally it was on my shopping list for fall, but didn't make the cut because I felt I'd have less use for it than something more versatile for my average workday.
I appreciate the ideas about looking back over posts, I will have to spend some time digging in. I think for me it is the combo of two body types -- Angie had me pegged as an hourglass, but I definitely have IT tendencies that this year's fashions are bringing out.
Finer knits and sizing up is noted, and I will try another cocoon sweater!

Dianthus, I'm glad you piped up and I appreciate someone recongnizing how difficult the welted bottom can be-- I like my welted bottom sweatshirt, but some of the sweaters I've tried feel like I've added a tire to my middle. Fine knits, I hear that!

BJ -- thanks. I think I will try a longer Cocoon first, but will definitely consider sizing up. I think #4 and the cocoon have some aspects in common, which is a good start. Thanks for clarifying with the wrap--- maybe an open cardi?

Joy-- I appreciate your wisdom-- I think you are right about the hip point, which is odd because it usually doesn't bother me. I think I will try the navy tee under other cardis-- I do have a chest, which works to my advantage I sppose. Otherwise I will save it for summer, where it will get worn a ton.

Angie-- you've made me reconsider #4. I really liked it, but didn't love the fit and thought I should try a shorter size, but instead I'm going to go more fluid. I don't know what it is about #5 that bothers me. I will keep the curved hemline in mind.

Carole-- I'm glad you came to commiserate, it really does make me feel better. I'm an hourglass with secondary IT tendencies (ala Angie) but these styles really bring out my shoulders! And I definitely have a short waist/torso. I'm glad 4 and 9 work as a starting point, I'm going to explore them and similar shapes more.

Kiwigal-- thanks so much! High low hemline and tunic length are things that I should definitely explore.

You have been showing some great looks recently....I do love the wrap top and the blue silk tee on you.

I like 4 on you the best in terms of the sweaters..and 2/3 is the worst....I am not sure who it would suit though, it does strike me as hard to wear.

I think longer or high low hemline would be great.

I also struggle with knits and have mostly been wearing them the same or similar tone to my pants or jeans this winter for flattery reasons...it is a wee bit boring though!

Before I read anyone's replies, i really like 4 and 9 for your shape. I think we are similar body types, Elly. IT with a short waist? I've had trouble finding my way through the sweaters of the moment and can relate to your frustrations. I just returned a whole boat load of fabulous sweaters that just didn't do it for me. Don't give up!

Here's my 2 cents, Elly:

I love you in #4, but would also like to see a size up. Great neckline on you.

#2 and #3, has an unflattering neckline, and the blocking is odd. Also short.

#5, I really like. Nice fluid fit, and good neckline. Great length and fab colour. But return it because you're not in love with the colour.

The orange in #7 is too straight on the hem - you need a curve - like this, for a more flattering effect with high contrast bottoms:

Okay, back for a bit of analysis. I think the cocoon sweater looks great on you, so that is a good shape to keep trying.

I agree with the others that some of these might work a bit better with a semi-tuck. Particularly the red one in #7.

What I might do now is go back and read the body type recommendations for your types. Then go and look up Angie's recent spring and fall sweater roundup blog posts and read carefully to see which ones she recommends for people with your body type modifiers.

Some of these may not longer be available and lots will be out of your price range. BUT, with a careful reading, you will probably be able to deduce what specific combination of features you are looking for.

I suspect you'll do best to start with finer gauge knits vs. chunky. That the shape and length of the bottom will be important. That you might have to size up to get the kind of fit you are after. (That is what I did with those J. Crew sweaters you liked, by the way -- both are larger than my usual size, even though they are listed as having "oversize" or "relaxed" fits to begin with.)

Several of these look like they would benefit from a semi-tuck to show a little waist, or maybe scrunched up a bit higher. 4,5,7 & 8 look like they make a horizontal line at the widest part of your hips, not that it is bad but it may be what is looking off to you. I like 1 and 9 the best from these photos. The navy silk blouse may be hard to wear under anything because of its width. I have a similar silk tee and, even though it is soft, it just doesn't work well under a topper. All the extra fabric bunches in front looking like I can't fill it out, which I can't.

I like the shape of the cocoon, would you consider sizing up? I like #4 too.

To accommodate the diagonal sleeve and button might need a dolman to raglan sleeve knit. The wrap neck needs a low vneck, easiest in a jacket with a lower stance.

Elly, for women who have a fairly large chest and tiny waist, it is okay to surrender but it works much better with a fine gauge knit that flows into the body a bit rather then a heavier weight that adds bulk. You also have to be really careful about the banding at the bottom and length. If it is too long, the proportions don't work.
The first sweater drapes nicely and is fluid without totally losing the waist and it looks like a nice length to my eye. Number 7 looks like it drapes well but does seem to flare a touch at the bottom. It still looks quite nice and flattering though. The one in 2 and 3 looks a bit off in proportions. It may be because the band matches the pant and that really shortens the torso.

I'm not sure about the others so won't comment. They all look good but something seems just a bit off. I see why you are having trouble analyzing them because there is nothing that is obviously not working.

Oh -- I remembered that I have a sleeveless turtleneck with some ruching that is similar in a way to your top in #1. And I wear it most often with a denim jacket! I also layer regular blazers over it. But I am not sure if you have a fairly classic blazer style jacket at all?

I need to think about the other sweaters and what (if anything) is the issue.

Thank you so much for your compliments, by the way. And you are right -- quality fabric really does have a different drape and that gives the lucky wearer a huge advantage. No question. I also think that sizing up helps a bit -- but that might work better or worse depending on the cut as well as the wearer's body type.

I'm struggling a bit with knitwear. So far most of the pieces I've ordered have just not been that flattering--- and I'm totally good with a waist surrendering piece as referenced by recent WIWs.

I could really use some help analyzing what is and isn't working with recent k/r sweaters and tips for shapes to look for, or even garments to try, and sizing up or down. I LOVED Suz's looks in her statement sweaters thread http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....t-sweaters. However, J Crew cashmere is a bit out of the budget for me, if you know what I mean.

First off is the textured number from banana republic. What isn't working? Is it the cropped length? looser torso? sleeves?

Welted bottoms are great, but it seems in knitwear that I am not getting blousing, but rather puckering. Something is off in the hip fit on the grey cowl and purple (pinkish-looking) v neck. I like but don't love the red v-neck, except for the fabrication and other fabbers have not been able to point out exactly what is off.

Also, I'd really love some advice on finding something to wear over my black drape-front turtle from today's WIW, as well as the navy silk blouse from the recent k/r thread, and another black blouse that is similar to the navy silk in shape w/buttons at the shoulder. The drape front of my leather jackets is too much with the draped blouse, and the leather jacket just isn't warm enough for winter worn over short sleeves. A thin knit over the short sleeves won't work because of the buttons! I tried the cocoon cardi for that purpose, but the size medium tall was too tight to layer over things in the shoulders.
