Sure - why not. They are gamine.

The outfit will lack the "glam and pretty" you are after though - especially since the shoes are black, making them extra masculine. Either straight crops or flared crops are fine. You need a ruffled blouse to compensate.

Angie,
I love the outfit you wore yesterday! Although I am not sure I personally could wear leopard print booties, I am very excited to try the snakeskin when they arrive this week, which will have a similar effect I think.
I have these laceup Rage & Bone booties. To Suz's point about stumpifying: could I wear these with the flared crops? I'm not afraid of JFE. Could I make the look glam gamine if I went fem on top? Would a straighter leg crop be better?

If not, how should I wear these boots? With skinnies/straight legs only?

Thanks Suz, Viv, Denise and Lisa. I left the moto off throughout the day because it warmed up. I loved the outfit. Felt very fresh and new, but true to my style.

Suz, you won't have a problem with your calves - trust me. You need a heeled bootie - that's all.

Lisap, I LOVE animal print footwear. It punches up most outfits.

Una, yes to all that you said.

Alaskagirl, those Harley's are fab... I was looking for a slightly higher shaft like those, but with a more refined look. The Nordstrom ad for booties that is popping up on WhoWhatWear shows really nice booties, exactly what I am looking for, but I wanted black. And these popped up after I ordered the Ralph Laurens... http://shop.nordstrom.com/c/wo.....fall-boots

I agree that the wider crops are more of a problem.

SO... this is where my midcalf boots serve me well! It is too cold in winter for any sliver of skin to show. I wear my jeans rolled with my Harley-Davidson boots which have a fitted shaft and are fantastic because they cover skin but provide the illusion of leg slimness that is needed for cuffed looks.

http://www.amazon.com/Harley-D.....8&...

And they would also work with wider leg cropped pants. The key to me is that the boot has to follow the shape of the leg as closely as possible if no skin is showing.

I am into this type of jean too - and thanks for the link to the Anthro ones. I am also dying to find some totally cool mid calf boots to make this a winter look too. Funny though, stores here are still not showing much in the way of interesting boots yet - I'm hoping there are still more to come.

And I like Angie's look too - but i cannot seem to get myself into a pair of animal print booties. They look great in pictures, but when I look at them in person, I can't seem to do it. Mind you , all I ever see are either crazy stiletto heels in animal print, or an almond toe low heel which I apologetically have a poison eye for. Anyways, following along with interest,

Viva I was thinking just wear pantyhose underneath and thick athletic socks that don't show? Or maybe that still is not warm enough for your climate.

Fun outfit, Angie!

But...for those of us who are short of calf ...I fear serious stumpification with short flares, bare (or socked) skin, plus bootie. Lots of little horizontal lines in a part of my body that is already very cut off and stumpy.

Yet I LOVE the idea... LOVE the hope of a new silhouette that could work for me PRACTICALLY in my winter, and LOVE boots like Diana's with a mid-calf, fitted shaft.

Sveta & Viv. It's a cool day, and I'm about to go shopping with a very casual client. (I can break up my new NAS jumper!), and I'm wearing the outfit below. There is a two inch piece of skin showing between the boots and jeans. It's bare skin - no need for knee highs just yet.

I was wearing my rolled up BF jeans in colder weather the same way Angie stated - with knee high socks and taller shaft booties and allowed some "bare" (aka hosed) skin to show. However I am not sure about the flared hems. Angie, for the flares should the hem cover the boot shaft so no skin is shown or some skin between the hem and the boot is fine?
Another alternative is knee tall boots worn under - instant faux tall shaft bootie!

Smittie and Diana: I think you are probably right, that a taller boot is the answer. Maybe I will combine this need with my work shoe need and look for a pair of well-fitting, midcalf, 2-inch heeled, black leather boots. Talk about a HEWI!!! Suz, if you find any, let me know pronto.

Always trying and Tania: Socks are definitely an answer, and not a bad thing. But maybe not quite the look I am after.

And yes, BlondeAmbition: Cropped flares are indeed a look now. Kind of hard to imagine, right? But they're actually quite cute. ;)

I am interested in this topic too and will be following the responses. I bought the white/black plaid cropped pants hoping to wear them as an alternative to skirts in fall/winter but at -30C I can't have bare skin. I may go shipping for higher boots on the weekend and wear the pants to test.

Socks are not "bad things". I have been searching around pinterest, bloglovin, etc. for a while, and am seeing a lot of sock looks. SO for a dressier look match the socks to the boot, and for sportier look go for any sock look you like. I also think for warmth one can do either sheer pantyhose or tights. A look I also am seeing is like AndiB photo above where the leg is not seen when standing, but of course the jeans ride up a bit when sitting.

I think we will be seeing more sock looks as we get into cooler weather.

I'm seeing taller shaft booties (not ankle, not mid calf, somewhere in the middle) with socks, and the socks showing. I'd probably just match the socks to the bootie. I ordered Ralph Lauren Carah just yesterday, hoping it fills this need. http://www.zappos.com/lauren-by-ralph-lauren-carah May even have them tonight when I get home from work, Zappos you know...

Here is an image of the booties with socks.

https://www.pinterest.com/pin/366058275941304366/

I see a lot of booties without socks too, with that peek of leg, which I also like. Just not in January in Michigan!

ETA -- if it involves a show of skin, then this type of jean would be relegated to my unworn cupboard from mid to late October until late April or mid-May. That is what happens to my boyfriend jeans -- either that or I wear them unrolled and "puddled," as Denise showed us the other day in a WIW. But that feels like a very masculine look to me and I increasingly avoid it.

This is my question, too, Viv. I am hoping that Diana's answer is a reasonable one -- because this would make this type of jean or pant a perfect silhouette changer for our winters. (Assuming we could find fun fitted mid-calf boots/ booties).

In short, you'd wear them sort of like long culottes.

Oh, how I hope this becomes a fashionable look. Diana shows us that it can be flattering.

But I do think a lot will depend on the specific cut of the jean/ pant and the person's body type. It won't work on everyone or for everyone, and no one type of jean or pant will be right for each body.

I think you want a true mid calf boot, like the one here. These are like a 9 inch shaft or so. They come up an inch or so past the hem of the culottes. If it was cold I'd probably add a black sock too.

Eta: honestly with these culottes I could wear a knee high boot too although in this case it would be rather seasonally confused because they're linen.

One of my absolute favorite looks is cropped pants and oxfords, can't wait to sport this look in the fall. I particularly like flats and think of this as a sporty chic look rather than a dressy look. The oxford allows for maximum skin exposure, ankle booties and the like seem to me (to my eye) to shorten the leg line and appear dumpy unless you are blessed with long thin legs.

I'm not sure about the bell bottomed cropped pant, are these in style now?

I figured I'd wear tall patterned wool socks. FWIW, I think most of my boots are higher shaft lace-up (not booties) and the hem of my cropped straight legs goes over all of them. The pant leg will ride up when I sit, but the socks will take care of that.

Then again, most of the folks I see are very flexible about what others wear, so I am not worried about wearing socks.

I don't think I'll attempt this trend, for that very reason. The forum seems to be emphasizing that the look requires bare skin, and there's such a very limited window of time that allows for that ... doesn't seem worth buying for, for me.

I just saw that Anthro is carrying a non-frayed version of the Pilcro cropped flared jeans that I used to have, so I may purchase a pair of these (a size down). I'm very excited because I loved these!

But here is my question. Even with a higher shaft bootie, there is likely to be skin between the boot top and the jean. What do we do about this? Show skin into the winter? Only wear these until November?
