Dianne,

We have lots of clients with your body shape - bigger on the top.

I saw pencil skirts in the JCrew catalogue that came in very fun colors. You could wear one of those with a black waist nipping shirt. http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Brows...../17444.jsp

To be really youthful pair the skirt with black opaque leggings and black booties.

I want you to feel fantastic on this occassion. In our society we praise men for maturing and give women a hard time for it.

Yes, I usually wear a larger size on top then bottom. In fact even when I was a teenager, and wore a size 6 on the bottom, I was a 10 on top.

Now I wear a 10 or 12 bottom, and a 14 or 16 top. Most of my weight gain came in my late 30s but I still have the same basic shape.

I buy suit separates for work, and since being a mom I fell into a style rut. Funny, back in the 1980s I was a bit of a trend setter, mixing vintage fashions with punky stuff and very brave and fashion forward. Then I became a lawyer, gained weight and became a mom and now I'm nervous about trying new stuff.

This is a wonderfully sup[ortive community Angie. Thanks for myour attention and time.

Clarissa- I will try that sight.
My accessories run from corporate neat diamond studs and suit appropriate necklaces to dangling earrings and long vintage lockets and such on the weekend.
I haven't embraced scarves, they look too hot.

Dianne,

A tailored shirt with black - in an evening fabrication - skinny pants that stop at the ankle to show off a strappy sandal.

We'd need more of your personal info for accessory prescription.

For my body a wrap dress scares me too.

I'm 36 years and enjoy this blog: http://www.fabulousafter40.com/, I think it too will have some good ideas.

You are right to define your waist, and I'd highlight your narrow lower body too.

I’m so happy you posted, Dianne! It’s great that you feel safe and supported here.

Do you usually wear a different size on top to what you wear on the bottom?

I haven't really tried a wrap dress recently. I'm a little nervous because they seem so clingy though I love them in pictures. I also worry about how to pick a print when you have a large bust.

Sizes vary with manufacturer. Sometimes a 14, sometimes a 16.
I need the larger sizes to accommadate my bust. Often the hips end upbeing too big though.

Though I have been reading your site for nearly a year, this is the first time I've been brave enough to post a question. I think your advise is so wonderful. Reading your answers gives me a confidence in dressing that I seem to have lost over the years.

Thanks for the info.

Have you tried a wrap dress? I’d love to post some examples but I’ll need to know your size so that my suggestions are at least from the right store departments.

I am not at all computer savvy, and don't have any digial photos of myself so I'll just try to explain with words.

I have a large bust....44 inches around- bra 36 DDDD
Waist......................37
hips........................40

I am 5 foot 5 inches. I think I look best when I have a defined waist.
I don't want to dress in a way that is matronly, and the whole turning 50 thing has made my husband interested in my looking "youthful".

I want to stay away from blazers, too worky. I'm a lawyer, I wear suits to work.

Do I wear skirts? Dresses? pants? What's fun and festive and good for dinner party at a steakhouse? If it helps, We will be in Atlantic City.

What a festive occasion and we'd be happy to offer suggestions! It really helps when you post a visual of yourself though. Without one, it’s tricky to steer you in the right direction. Think you can muster up a few?

Help! I need an outfit to wear to a birthday dinner at a steak house. The occasion is my husband's 50th birthday. I want to look "young" "fun" and "contomporary" but not like "mutton dressed as lamb".

I am 47 and full figured.

Like I said, Help! Please!
