Consider spending a little extra on the following items: two pairs of great jeans (one for heels and one for flats), a trench coat, fitted V-neck cardigans, a dress and boots. Once you make a statement with these you’ll get away with filling in the gaps with disposable fashion cheaply.

You sound a lot like me Rachel. I'm a 22 year-old small framed inverted triangle, and a college student. I also love 50's style! I do wish I had $1000 to spend on clothes right now, but I'll take the little bit of extra I have from a tax refund. As much as I love skirts, our winters are cold and windy here, so I typically wear pants and jeans every day from November to March. Walking too and from classes can be chilly in a skirt or dress even with a coat. Occasionally I'll throw on a skirt for church on Sunday, but that's about it until spring. So for me, dressy and casual pants are must have. Turtle neck sweaters also look great as long as they are fitted. Hope this helps.

I'm in university, so I guess suits are for the most part are not going to be a staple in my wardrobe. I attend church functions often, so that's also a consideration.

Hi,
I'm 19 years old, and I am being given a little over $1000 to spend this spring on my wardrobe. I really like the look of the 50's (audrey hepburn, twiggy etc). I have a small frame, that's an inverted triangle. I'm just wondering if there's any key pieces I should be conscious to invest in and what I should steer clear of this upcoming season. I want to dress more mature, while not looking matronly.
