Having been where you are, I can tell you unequivocally you need to find a different bra store, one that caters specifically to larger-sized gals. Lane Bryant can do fittings, and they have a great selection of larger bras, but I found a local small specialty lingerie store to get the best fittings. Yes, the place was mostly old-lady styles, but these women did not monkey around and they knew their stuff. Once they got me into the right size (I was a 42F/42DD at the time) I was then able to buy different bras online for cheaper. But honestly, the ones I got from the local store were definitely the best!

As for finding clothes on the outside :), yes a pic is very helpful. Where do you shop now? What kind of styles do you wear? I have found great success finding clothes online at some of my favorite stores -- and they don't carry those sizes in the store itself. Gap, Ann Taylor, Target -- all have great larger-size selections online.

Welcome to the forum! Looking forward to seeing you here.

I don't care what they advertise, Victoria's Secret is not a good place to go for a bra if you're a busty girl. I have the same problem and the only solution is to go to a specialty lingerie store. I go to one on the upper west side of manhattan. They measure you very precisely there and will bring you only bras that THEY think are best for you and believe me... they know best! For everyday comfort I wear a Wacoal minimizer - I was fitted at that store but I've been able to find my size in department stores and buy them there. For specialty items though it's best to have absolute guidance.

Hi! I have a similar body shape so maybe we can work together on this "in process" project lol. For bras - try Wacoal at Nordstrom's. There are lots of styles. A bit more than LB but totally worth it.
Hopefully I will get some pics up soon too. Chris

Welcome to the forum, and thanks for jumping in Maya.

In fact getting the best bra is where good style starts. We have a few bra experts on this forum - Nicole and Carissa. I hope that they chime in. (It sounds like Maya is fast becoming our next bra expert).

Posting a picture would really help. That way we can make accurate suggestions on how to have you looking and feeling your best.

Welcome Diane. Do you have a Nordstrom anywhere near you? The places you mentioned going to for fittings are never going to give you a good fit (I can't speak for Dillards since we don't have a store here, but Vic's Secret and JCPenney are definitely out). Their bras do not go past a DD, but instead of telling you that you are out of their size range, they will just try and put you in the biggest size they have in order to make a sale. If you don't have a Nordstrom, try and find a specialty lingerie boutique nearby. If that is also not an option, then my only advice would be to measure yourself, and order a bunch of different bras with cup and band size combinations and see which feels best. But I think it's very difficult to do the last way because sometimes you might be wearing the right size but the specific bra or style is not right for you, and you might mistake it for being the wrong size. There is lots of detailed information on fit and how to measure yourself on sites like herroom.com, barenecessities.com, and figleaves.com.

Also, posting a picture is always helpful and will give you the best advice as far as your clothes go.

I am a plus sized woman and am looking for the type of clothes I can be wearing to help make me look slimmer as I get my body into better shape. these clothes can be anything from workout clothes, casual, and dress up. Also I am 5ft. 2in. tall and weigh 200 lbs. I have large breasts and big hips My stomach is big but you can see where my waist is. Can we post pics to help with our descriptions.
Another area I want help in if possible is my bra. I have yet to find a comfortable fitting bra and that is what they say I wear. They the stores I've had fittings at (JC Penney, Dillards, Victoria Secret) say I am 44DD and as I say I have yet to find anything that gives me the support or comfort I so desire.
I thank you for your time and advise. What do you think?

Diane
