Funny, Rachy, people with eyes only for the art, it’s the dream, really.
I usually buy art from friends as an appreciation of how beautiful it is, and to encourage them. Nothing encourages like a sale. Visual art is a rather lonely endeavor most of the time.

I’m like Jenava… my thought too was a smock, sneakers… maybe a headscarf and dangling earrings to signal ‘art’, lol ;)

My brother and I accidentally invaded a closed gallery over Christmas. They were actually setting up some new works, dressed down for the job - and we didn’t notice anything. Lol They sold us some pictures and said nothing. Only realised it as we were leaving and finally saw the closed sign. So, sartorial expectations I’d say are non-existent in reality…

Thank you guys, and Sharan. Another style mentor heard from.
It probably will go well, we used to be old hands at this but of course it changes as we get older. More challenges to work around.
Amusingly, the actual artist, when asked of he needed any new clothes for the event, looked vague and said no, he was wearing this, as he gestured to his sweats. I really laughed, he used to be a fashion plate.
The absolute freedom of not giving a damn, gotta love it.

Wow, such great suggestions, and it sounds like you are on your way with an excellent packing list. I'm glad you mentioned a hat; it was the one thing I thought of. It can add panache and be useful--whether for sun protection or warmth--all at the same time. I hope the workshop goes splendidly.

I'm not help, I guess, because my first thought was to wear what you want and then layer a nice linen smock-apron over it all! I personally have been thinking of making one or buying one off etsy to wear when washing the doggo.

Thanks, Angie. Still gobsmacked over how much better I feel in emotionally uplifting colours. Orange with dark denim is a favourite of mine, also.
Suz, you are one of my style icons on this forum. I got the New Supply Cargo pants in Sunstone Orange. Bright! Sized up, as like a loose fit on the middle aged middle. I do have proportionally long legs, and a very short torso, so regular pants often fit better than short.
Janet, this is my second buy from Aritzia in a month, so I did like the long quilted vest, scarf, and hat I got on sale. Went into regular rotation immediately. Coming on trip!
Their large long sleeved t shirt is too large on me, and I do have to fit wide shoulders, so anyone built a bit more delicately should probably size down in tops. Especially if they use the word ‘relaxed’.
Quality is good. I think Angie just commented on that in another post.
Thank you. All suggestions on point and practical. I feel like I am missing a step lately after life shut down.

I hope the cargo pants work for you! Are they the same ones I got? They might be a bit long if you are 5 feet only -- I'm a bit taller at 5'4". But they might work as-is with a more substantial sneaker.

Meanwhile...this sounds like a challenging trip in oh so many ways. I second Janet's advice to choose layers, and practical clothes that are easy to move in.

Here are some items I might bring (depending on weather, of course -- as you say -- spring is so variable!).

Orange cargo pants sound amazing! I have never tried anything from Aritzia (always had the impression they don't cut for figures with hips and boobs, am I wrong?). I hope they work brilliantly for you!

And yes, an apron and a comfortable but structured jacket sounds like a wise addition. You've got this!

Nancy, yes. Will put together a poop hits the fan bag, with medical info and hospital survival kit. It is always cold in there.
And Runcarla, blazers do convey that information…will borrow a tiny friends. We are both 5 feet tall and short waisted, so hard to fit. I gave up on blazers a while back.
wow, covering the bases here. I have some packing to do.
Per Janet’s advice, orange cargo pants from Aritzia are winging their way here.
Orange is my happy colour, and I think the days of fading into the background as earth coloured ground support may be over.

LOL, April, so true. Wet oil paint is impossible. And will be tromping on dropcloths.
Janet, layers, lots, absolutely. Spring is so intensely variable. Will pull some really warm stuff and you remind me to pack a whole lightweight summer capsule. With scarves and capris. Casual it is. Cargo pants, am going to look at them. Pockets!
Dee, genius. Ordering a hella sturdy apron right now. With so many pockets. Utilitarian background!
I do not have much of a pants capsule, consists of 4 pair of jeans, and some rather worn parachute pants. They are all coming with.
Suggestions for pretty fanny pack for hands free access to phone and the Square stuff?
Mine have gone to the dogs and are reserved for such.

This is a challenge, in a lot of ways. I wish you and Mr Green a successful workshop that isn’t so taxing.

These kinds of events are casual, and no one will expect you to be in high fashion mode. I’d go with washable casual pieces that you feel good in, and can move around in easily — that you can kind of forget once you get dressed.

For instance:

- Jeans, chinos or cargo pants with an easy fit
- Polished tees or easy jersey or other knit tops, and maybe plaid or patterned button-front shirts to layer over — I imagine that temperature shifts can be a thing with varying levels of activity, so I’d always go with layers that can be removed or added as you warm up and cool down.
- A denim or utility jacket is another good layering option as long as it has stretch and ease.
- Sneakers or supportive boots that will allow you to spend lots of time on your feet comfortably
- To add a bit of personality, depending on your particular preferences, how about great earrings, or a scarf tied around the neck, or fun socks with cuffed jeans?

I included some examples from my Finds.

It’s been a couple of years since I helped my artist husband put on a painting workshop, and the last few were in our Taos home during the pandemic. That was quite the challenge, as it included lunch and meant a major reshuffle and clean of the house to accommodate students. Bonus difficulty was living off grid and way off pavement.
Mr Green is winding things down and this may be the last workshop he is physically able to do, and it is a four hour drive from our present home, in a couple of weeks.
We are leaving the dogs behind and in good hands, and I am going with him for the four days. It will involve the usual lugging and moving things, troubleshooting, selling paintings, taking photos, and just keeping the artist alive.
This is hard to dress for. Some latitude for being artsy, but striking the right note between dressing for hard work and being presentable enough to act as a salesperson for rather lovely art is probably familiar to other people on the forum.
Just writing this is helping…
Lastly, I can see a hospital visit if Mr Green’s health takes a turn.
Gah.
What do you think? Utilitarian background support or just screw it and water all the good stuff?
