I moved back to Phoenix from San Diego for a job in February and the heat in the summer is really a downside to living in Phoenix.
Seems like a good clothing selection. Hope you have a good time at the game.

I’m drinking the water!!
Fashiontern, those assecories are great!
Rachylou, I did not know that about your puffer fame :)
Texstyle, I couldn’t find linen shorts or pants because I got a late start. I did end up with a pair of cotton Bermuda shorts and some white cropped chinos. Hopefully those along with my linen/cotton tops will work. Yes, my hat made the trip as well.

Temp on the car thermometer around 2pm.

I think you've got good advice - linen would be my first choice - Athleta still has some good linen pants/shorts. Sleeveless cotton or linen top in a light color and if you do wear a hat, be sure it is lightweight and breathes. I don't like dresses when it's sticky hot - that skin against skin on the legs drives me crazy so I would opt. for pants/shorts.

I’m enjoying the thread. I’ve no advice to offer. It sounds scary! Love the water carrying options, didn’t know it took days to build up hydration and can’t believe the RL puffy fame started in Arizona.

SW Ann, you made me laugh — I’m also always urging my visitors to drink water. They think I’m pushy or at best quirky, until they don’t... People don’t realize it’s takes several days to fully hydrate.

Woven cotton dresses were my thing when I lived in Tucson. I love the heat and the temp didn’t bother me so much, but direct exposure to the sun was (and still is) another thing. Big hat, lots of sunscreen, lots of water.

Ok. Now, I have to tell you my Puffy Fame started in Tucson. Tucson was when I started wearing them. Because it was always sooooo cold indoors!

I live across country but we were at an outdoor concert ( grounds of original Woodstock event) and it was warm even late into night. I had linen pants, cotton top and hoodie in case- hoodie was not needed.
So - having experienced AZ heat - I vote linen dress, sunscreen and money to buy water for hydration.
Enjoy !
And may I add- condolences to all AZ ( and in fact all of us) as nation says goodbye.......

Drink the water! We visited relatives in Phoenix every few years while I was growing up, so I knew about sweaters for the ac, thought I knew the climate and was ok with it. Then my cousin, an ASU grad, took me to Tucson for the standard campus tour, etc. I had never felt dehydration like that in my life! Granted, “my life” at that point meant 17 years, so not so very long, but otoh, one might expect a young person to be hardier.

Here’s what I think you should wear, all filled with cool water. Oh, and enjoy the get-together!

Thanks a bunch!
Bonnie, thank goodness for AC. I can hardly stand it when we have those 90 degree days where it doesn’t cool down enough at night.
Avicenna, I know I don’t drink as much water as I should, so I’ll have to pay attention to that while there,
I actually attended the visiting school, so this Arizona heat is very foreign to me.

If you are used to humidity it won't be a big deal...the temp will be. Avicennia has the best advice---hydrate in advance, during and after....it can really sneak up on you and will make you miserable. Visitors to my house get sick of me offering water, and insisting they drink up...until they don't and feel like crap. You probably know this, if you went to ASU but it is easy to forget...Yes, the sun will be down by 7 pm but the temp will not go down at all until very early morning. I walk outside every day at 5 am....it was 78 degrees this morning....with some humidity and a shower this afternoon....

I live in AZ as well. I agree that linen is the best way to go. I usually don’t do sleeveless if I’m going to be outside for an extended length of time. Wear a hat with 6 inch brim. Remember also that you need to get a head start on hydration — start drinking lots of water at least the day before.

Liz, good thinking! I haven’t been to a football game in so long I had forgotten about that. Well, except for the one we sat through last year where the concerns were keeping dry and warm. Give me a hockey game any time!

SW Ann, oh goody, fiercely hot and humid. Am I reading right that the sun goes down around 7? It will still be hot but at least we shouldn’t be baking.

Wise Shopper, thanks.

Linen is the best you can wear for the heat, viscose - not so much. What's the percentage? If less than 40%, I'd give it a try. Otherwise use something else or use this as an excuse for shopping. One more tip - sleeveless.

Arizonan here, commenting....wear as little as possible that is within your comfort zone-- with lots of sunscreen. I favor dresses but not sure if I'd be comfortable climbing in and out of the stands in a dress...so I think shorts or the crops. Right now, here, we are in monsoon ...which means a slightly higher humidity than the norm the rest of the year. I favor cotton, or linen. The viscose is okay if it isn't tightly woven--airier the better. I wear levi's denim bermudas even in high heat because the cotton content makes them bearable. However, I don't sit outside in direct sun for 3 hours in them either! I'm not sure if I'm helping.....If you think you will be in sun, be sure to wear head protection for the beginning of the game. BTW I do love the EF dress you showed...I wear a linen EF dress from 5 years ago (no find, sorry) at least once or twice a week from May-Sept!! Best of luck and have fun....

We will be going to a football game at Sun Devil stadium next weekend to cheer on our alma mater and have a bit of a milestone group birthday celebration with my friends from school.

It’s an evening game but the temp for the day is forecast to be (gulp) 104!
Do I want to wear as little as possible while sitting out, or would I be better off wearing something like a linen shirt and crops? My crops are a linen/viscose blend -is that blend something I want to avoid?

I have a whopping 2 pair of Bermuda length shorts - one is a black cotton and the other is white denim. I assume the denim is just going to be too warm despite being white. Is the black something I want to avoid despite the lighter weight fabric?

One other option is an Eileen Fisher knit linen dress.

I may need to go shopping.

Thanks in advance for sharing your wisdom. I really don’t like heat. What were we thinking??
