Oh boy I loved my snug coral cardigan so much that I still can't part with it though it would fit three of me. I washed it and the instruction told me to just dry flat in a horizontal position. But I hung it (to death) and now it has stretched.

Hmm. I wear a lot of vegetable dyes, which often will run, especially initially. My husband refuses to wear any, for precisely this reason. So of course one fine day he tosses in his new RED t-shirt (chemical dye, ergo, colourfast in his head) with all the pales, his and mine, and the sheets --- everything comes out patched with pink! That was three years ago; I still occasionally get him to apologize.

I hate it when that happens. Nowadays my d/c only items don't even go in the laundry; they go straight into a different bag. You can probably guess why.

MaryK,
What a bummer! I have shrank things so many times I have lost count. My favorite time was years ago when my father decided to do laundry and took a loose weave brown sweater of mine and through the miracle of science made it so small that it would only fit an organ grinder's monkey. I swear, I picked it up and held it like it was doll clothing. He was pretty sheepish about it.

I put 3 dry clean only sweaters in the washer AND dryer. Two of them were my boyfriend's, I bragged to him about my sweater washing skills and talked him into letting me clean them vs. bringing them to the dry cleaner. But because there were jeans and poly-cotton work aprons on top of the pile, I forgot about the sweaters in the pile. Needless to say I did not wash and dry the load on delicate. His sweaters are now tight and short, but he is such a sweetie, he said, "it's OK, now you can see my belts when I wear them."

Isn't he the best? I promised him that I would enjoy buying new ones for him!

Oh, MaryK, I feel your pain! Though I have to admit, I came running to your subject heading scratching my head. WHAT? The Great and Colourful Mary K HAS wardrobe malfunctions? Is it even possible?

But now I get it. And yes, this happens at my house, too. The latest...my jeans went into the wash with some white bras and Ts. Ooops!! The whites are blue.

Before that, the dark wash AT jeans went into the dryer...um....MULTIPLE times. They still fit, but they are fading fast.

My husband has shrunk several of my sweaters beyond recognition by tossing them into the dryer. I have one shrunken sweater that is now way more shrunken than it was every meant to be. Contrariwise, I also have a red cardi that has stretched so strangely it could fit a moose if one happened to wander into our yard.

So sorry about the new trousers. That is such a pain.

Mary, this is so annoying. I don't own a dryer, but I find ways. I sat on a caffe chair under a tree with my brand new white pencil skirt. 3 washings later, 3 washings + stain removal treatmens + some scrubbing with a nail brush I kinda cleaned it.

Are you kidding me? I just ruined a brand new striped tee from GAP. I ripped a hole in the back removing the tag.... Off to the garbage it went!
I killed a pair of beige Steve Madden suede shoes a couple weeks ago also. I wore them knowing it was going to rain, under dark bootcuts. The jean dye transferred over the shoe...
Killed a $25 pair of Kate Spade hose, on the first wear, by ripping a hole at the knee...
And the list goes on and on....
That's why I never borrow things from anyone.

I hate to say it but I do stuff like that all the time.A new silk blouse ended up in the wash last week, but luckily realized it before it hit the dryer, it's just fine. And then a favorite MK tunic made it through the wash and dry cycle and the sleeves shrunk up to 3/4 length! Oh well, I kinda like 3/4 length sleeves.

This weekend I was catching up on a MOUNTAIN of laundry and tossed my lovely new black Ann Taylor dress pants (which I had just paid to have lengthened) into the washer and dryer. Oops. Didn't read the tag that said "dry clean only." They are now the right size for maybe an eleven-year-old. If, you know, the eleven-year-old has an office job with a fairly strict dress code.

*headdesk*

The only saving grace in the whole situation is that as a result of a previous shopping malfunction, I have an identical pair of black pants in reserve. So another trip to the tailor and I'll be good to go.

But... argh.

Please, ladies. Tell me I'm not the only one who does stuff like this!!
