April, I'm not quite certain if the ones that I bought were an outlet-only model. Mine were full leather and not mixed suede/leather like the ones on Zappos. Maya seemed to think that the Zappos measurements are not always accurate. I have not ordered very much from Zappos so I have no idea. It might also depend on the size - I tried on the 36 & 37 and the 37 was definitely looser around the calf. My calves are a little under 13" and I was able to tighten the straps to the last setting to make them work so the buckles are functional to some degree.

P.S. Shana, I am completely prepared to believe your measurement over Zappos, but they seem to think the Esmeraldas have a 15" calf? http://www.zappos.com/n/p/p/7421275/c/116860.html

Yes, pretty much just classic, flat black boots.

Shana, I may have to try the Esmeraldas! They look *great*. I actually need something a little smaller than 13", but I think 13 could be made to work and unlike a boot with a 12-inch calf, 13 inches seems to actually exist outside of custom-made sizes. Do the buckles allow them to be made slightly smaller, or are they mostly decorative?

I hate when designers do that. I don't want to walk around with logos all over my stuff. I too have passed up a lot of otherwise great things due to logoing.

What are you looking for in boots? Just flat, black riding boots?

Oh, I hate that too! I tried on these boots when I was in Germany (no picture because the salesperson would have probably booted me out of the store):

http://www.bergdorfgoodman.com....._sku=X0E0C

Beautiful, perfect boots but a HUGE Prada logo on the back.

Jane F, my husband always says the same thing - they should pay us to advertise their brand!

BTW, my Ecco Esmereldas from my previous post were 13" circumference and super comfy!

Sigh. I really hate branding too. I don't want to be a walking advertisement!

It looks pretty subtle. I don't like obvious branding either, but this may not be noticed much. If they are otherwise perfect...

Its not too noticable....I had to enlarge the photo to see the branding. If these are the only boots you can find that fit your calf, I wouldn't take these off your list just yet. They are really nice!

After frustrating searches for knee-high boots narrow enough in the calf (hello, Medusa) and costing less than a zillion dollars, I finally spotted this pair: http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/30.....rchresults But then I noticed the back view, and it turns out that Calvin Klein has branded his name on the outside at the top.

I HATE that. There go my boots...
