I got the puffer on deep discount, so a final sale. I don't know that having the trim replaced would be worth it - could cost more than the coat.

I'm trying the brushing. That's helped some, but I don't think it will ever be completely soft again.

Argh! There's two types of fake fur on this coat. One was perfectly OK and the other not.

...The other thing about the coat... I hate synthetics... it picked up funny water marks alongside all the seams.

I found another site that said to use a fine brush like you would use for a dog or cat, with metal tines.

The dryer is actually the worst enemy because it can melt the fur.

Oh, how sad. Can you remove the trim and see if hair conditioner or fabric softener help? Or maybe see if you can find replacement trim at Britex or another fabric store? I'll have to remember that if I wash DD's puffer at the end of the season.

Oh no! Perhaps a tailor can replace it with a new piece of trim?

Ah, Rachy - so sorry. This can happen. Usually you are supposed to take the fur off (often it comes off separately).

Here's one potential solution: http://www.ehow.com/how_801845.....x-fur.html

I also want to add that when my husband did this to my daughter's coat, he called Land's End (where it came from) and they gladly sent us a new one. Which he is NOT going to put into the washer!

Truth is, we try to avoid wearing the fake fur even if it is just raining a bit. Dry snow is fine, but you don't want it getting too wet.

I'm soooooo upset. I tried washing my new long puffer (white) for the first time. The (fake) fur trim on the hood got fried. It's all rough and yucky like a bad, tangled wig. I don't know if it looks that different, but it feels different.

The hood is removable, but what is the point without it? I'm so depressed :(

They didn't say to hand wash the hood! Boo hoo...
