I'm another heels with jeans non-wearer. I don't know why but jeans don't look right on me with shoes with heels. I am okay with jeans with boots with heels but not shoes.

I am unable to tolerate cardigans and have felt this way for a long, long time. Even if I like the design, the drape, the colour and the fabric, once it is on my body I feel like Great Aunt Mildred.

This would be a long list for me as i tend to have hangups on a number of things; animal prints, florals, leather skirts/slacks, synthetic fibers, metallics, the color red....to name a few. I would feel like an impostor!

I feel this way about pink colored clothing. Some shades look good on me but I have a weird aversion to it. Same thing with most browns. I also don't like necklaces or scarves that hit around bust level -- they make me feel like my girls are protruding unnaturally, even if they aren't really. And skirts or dresses with bare legs make me feel naked and exposed. I almost always wear bike shorts or similar underneath, unless it is a very long maxi dress/skirt.

Over the knee skirts and bare legs, and I don't mean mini skirts. I used to wear only maxis a few years ago because I was very shy about my legs. It's better now and I feel perfectly comfortable with bare legs and just over or at the knee skirts, but anything shorter and I NEED to wear tights (and even that feels a bit awkward still).

My thoughts are similar to elisabeth on this. I can't think of anything that's occasion appropriate and looks flattering to me that I wouldn't feel comfortable wearing. I enjoy occasionally trying looks that don't feel "me".

However, I'm much less likely to spend my clothing budget on items that are too far outside my style.

"Office" stuff. For me, that means black slacks. Gray or navy clothes made out of suiting material. Anything made out of suiting material, really. Those pale striped button-downs. Blazers. Stiff shirts in general. Whatever looks like it would be appropriate on Generic Professional Woman #1 in a stock photo of a corporate conference room. [*shudders*] I'm amused at how strongly I feel this, because I'm a conservative dresser in general. But apparently I have my limits!

* Any item of clothing that looks best with bare legs. How I miss being able to throw on a pretty summer dress or a pair of clams.
* Swimwear
* Heels of almost every description, though I wear lower heels occasionally, and love the look, I'm always so busy trying to ignore pain in my feet, knees, and/or ankles that I can't quite relax.
* Skinnies - they're wrong for my body type and the shape of my legs, so when I wear the one pair of skinny-ish pants I own, I feel like a fashion victim who is old enough to know better than to wear unflattering clothing just because it's in style.

This is an interesting question. I've been thinking about it for a couple of hours, and I think I'm going to answer with a hesitant "no". If it looks good on me, I feel comfortable wearing it, providing the situation I'm wearing it in is appropriate for the look. For example I'm OK with showing cleavage, so long as it's a dressy evening event and my skirt isn't too short. Or high heels and skinny jeans -- a look which I love -- is something I feel perfectly comfortable in for a Friday night out at the pub, but wouldn't be caught dead in for picking my kids up from school.

But I don't think this was always the case. As a young woman I wore nothing but pants, and it took me quite a while to get used to wearing skirts and dresses of any shape when I first started experimenting with them several years ago. At first, even though I could plainly see that a skirt was flattering, I still felt weird in it -- almost naked, as you say. That's a good description. But since I liked how it looked so much, I kept doing it. Wearing a skirt with tall boots made me feel more comfortable, so that's how I desensitized myself. Now I wear skirts all the time and I'm *almost* as comfortable in them as I am in jeans.

Waving at Kim!!!!

I can wear a heel with a knee- length or below the knee pencil skirt. Not a super high heel - but I never wear that anyway.

But with a shorter skirt or with shorts or clams or skinny jeans? Nope. It is just SO not me.

It's a shame, because my legs could use the additional inches. But I feel too uncomfortable for words.

Also, any deliberately sexy outfits. Objectively, I might look all right. But not to my own eye. I don't like showing a lot of skin.

On the other hand, I would find super conservative business attire equally awkward. Especially if I were forced to wear pantyhose and matching jacket and skirt every day. Ugh.

I used to feel this way about jeans. Now the feeling has switched to khaki pants no matter how well they fit. I'm also not feeling myself in wide pants (wide all the way down or wide boot cuts). I just feel like a block in these. It might help if I could wear heels, but I suspect that they would still not feel right.

Anytime I wear a dress, I focus on the things I can't do--ride a motorcycle, climb things even if they aren't likely to happen that day. Or that I have to sit like a lady which doesn't come easily to me. If I do wear a dress, I want to toughen it up with boots and leggings--it feels like I'm still wearing pants.

Sometimes wearing flats in the office weirds me out. I am so used to wearing heels at work that the few times I wear flats I just feel so small and insignificant. It doesn't bother me outside the office, I guess because I usually wear more practical shoes to commute and do weekend things.

Also, I can't stand wearing an all neutral outfit without at least a little pop of color, even though I so admire that look on others, that sleek black and cream minimalist thing - just not me.

Bright clothing always scares me although I do look good wearing them. While I have few tops that are bright and colorful, I don't think I can wear a whole bright outfit, for example - a yellow dress or a red/orangey dress. I don't like standing out too much.

While there are several things I would feel funny wearing, I think what would definitely make me NOT feel like myself would be anything really shiny and/or glittery/glitzy and/or with a lot of bling. That's just not me -- not even at night -- not even for special occasions.

Heels with pencil skirts, or skinny pants. Too sexy for me. (And I LOVE the look on most women but can't seem to get around it in my own mind. I feel like I'm attracting unwanted attention for the wrong reasons. ) Though I don't feel the same about boots with heels and skinny pants....Silly brain!

I almost never have occasion to wear such a combo as I work at home in a childcare situation, so have grown accustomed to a very casual functional style over the last 25 years. Also, church was the only place I had to wear a dress and the churches I attended at the time frowned upon anything "sexy" so that's probably branded into my brain as well....LOL

I returned a pair of perfect red patent pumps because I felt like they would push my retro bombshell persona into costume territory. Now I kind of regret returning them because I have a formal event in June and they would be perfect. I think they would be too much for work.
