Mmm, everything on this thread sounds delicious!

I am very lucky to have our own Ana with hubby visiting over holidays. We cooked two huge meals for each of the two evenings. Christmas Eve it was baked ham with salad Olivier, three been salad and baked sweet potatoes. Last night it was lamb rack with mushroom risotto, asparagus and salad. And loads and loads of desserts, I went a bit nuts with baking: two regular cakes - angel food and "owl eye", two breakfast cakes - banana bread and nutella swirl pound cake and 7 types of cookies ( picture enclosed).

So our butternut squash ravioli was fabulous, even though it turned into pansotti (circles folded into half-moons -- those held together better than the classic ravioli shape). We also had greens with garlic and lemon, and the pate and cookies as described above.

It was fun to be in the kitchen together all afternoon. Nothing like bringing out the hand-cranked pasta machine when you have a lot of time on your hands!

We learned at the last minute that my parents decided to go spend Christmas with my mom's brother, who has taken ill. So DH and I are alone and loving it! He made me waffles for breakfast, we are having cheese, crackers, salami and pomegranate flirtinis for lunch (*hic*) and I'm going to make turkey pie from Thanksgiving leftovers (from the freezer) for dinner. And there are plenty of cookies and cake pops on hand. We. are. in. heaven.

I made Norwegian fruit soup - tapioca, dried apricots, golden and black raisins, prunes, fresh lemon, fresh satsumas, fresh pear, and a can of sweet cherries, stewed in water with a cup of sugar, a stick of cinnamon, some cloves, and some cardamom.

Well, Maya, that's an interesting question. I'm a vegetarian, but (she said with shame) not for any philosophical reasons. I just have an aversion to meat, including poultry and most fish. SO does sometimes eat meat, almost exclusively fish with a little poultry, but feels in his heart that eating meat is wrong.

He does it but feels it's wrong, and I don't feel it's wrong but still don't do it.

And since he doesn't tolerate dairy very well, we're often on the hunt for vegan meals, though neither of us a vegan.

Welcome to the complex intersection of beliefs, identity, digestion, and eating behaviors...

Oh goodness April, do you have room for one more at the table? That meal sounds PHENOMENAL. Is SO vegetarian?

I only wish I were a talented cook, but alas. I'm only doing the baking, as I always do. I don't trust anyone else with dessert.

Ooh there was another thread like this - I'm cooking a big table heaving feast. Probably unwise considering there is only 5 of us to feed but I am happy to eat leftovers for a while. The menu is not particularly vegan though, April. Ham, goose, balsamic pickled onions, asparagus florentine and Finnish cabbage casserole. I am considering brussels sprouts with chestnuts and lemon vinaigrette but I think we have enough as it is.

I have made olive oil biscuits in the past, they're great.

We are going over to a friend's tomorrow, but with our low carb/no sugar diet, I always bring food for ds and I. I'm making a savory pumpkin dip with veggies, salami and cheese tray, cucumber salad to go with turkey sandwiches and chocolate mousse with vanilla hazlenut whipped cream.
I did a butternut squash ravioli one time April (or it might have been pumpkin)- it was really good!

SO and I are at my house without DS, who is out west with his fabulous Aunt Mae. Since we exchanged our gifts before DS left, we are planning to spend tomorrow relaxing and cooking something scrumptious and time-consuming.

We're making the Mushroom Walnut Pate from the "Veganomicon" cookbook (see here) on baguette slices and olive-oil biscuits. Then butternut squash ravioli (making the pasta from scratch). There may be a side dish involving kale and maybe one involving cauliflower, since both of those things are in my fridge already. Dessert will be Almond Raspberry Torte cookies, which I'm going to make this afteroon.

How about you?
