Because one of my ways to manage stress has been cleaning and organizing, I have ordered a few things like replacement tablecloths, drawer organizers, and hangers. Hoping to do some spring cleaning this weekend.

I had a few items in mind but it all went out of a window a week ago. Even if I buy them - where will I wear them? All my new spring clothes is sitting in my closet, as it was bought to wear in the office or for outings on weekend. We might require stay at home for months.
Another concern is the overall financial situation. The economy will take a huge hit, so knows how we will fare individually. I have my job but for how long? I am choosing to conserve our resources until there is more clarity and stability.

So far, I've only ordered necessities. But I'm getting emails from local businesses trying to stay afloat. I'm worried about delivery workers but want to help them stay open. It's tough.

I'm conflicted. I'm wanting some summer weight pants, but I don't know how my finances are going to look as this drags on. I'm afraid of catching this virus because I work in an essential business (grocery store) and am on the sales floor with the public; at the same time, part of me thinks I deserve some summer weight pants for all the crap I'm dealing with at work (some folks are downright ugly, others are downright grateful we are still hard at work, so it's an emotional rollercoaster).

Like, I have all these pretty shoes I ordered before this crap went pandemic and the world went mad, and some new pants (in my new smaller size) would be nice. I haven't seen much change in the numbers on the scale, but I had to buy smaller sized work pants, so the weight training has been working to get me healthier and leaner.

I may order a couple of pairs of summer weight pants soon. I suspect discounts will get much steeper as this plays out, and that would make it less damaging to my finances. We shall see...

I ordered quite a bit from Nordstrom during the sale. And a little bit from Anthropologie. I want to help keep places that I am dependent on for my clothing afloat. Most of it will go back, of course, because I had to order multiple sizes.

At that time, Nordstrom still had curbside pickup at the local store, so I was able to pick up about half the items directly, avoiding shipping.

I'm looking for a few items specifically (cream and white jeans, etc.), and since I get a lot of emotional joy from having things to wear that I really like, I think it's important for me to continue to shop during this time. It helps keep my spirits up.

Firecracker, I don't think the virus can live on fabric for more than a day or so. The danger is more with smooth surfaces. If you just leave the jeans out for a few days, or even a week if you are concerned, you should be OK.

Can’t feel comfortable with ordering clothes now on a number of levels.Have ordered seeds to grow some fresh herbs in the back garden as we may not be able to get this sort of thing for a while now.Totally understand people’s conflicted feelings about ordering stuff at the present moment.

Haven't purchased anything new. I have wants from "the time before", but they seem very pointless right now. I will try playing a bit with what I have to try to keep from sliding into total slovenliness.

I’m with Lisa. I have not purchased anything other than food and necessities in nearly three weeks. Our financial situation has tightened due to the changing economic landscape (thank dog we were mostly out of the stock market long ago!). My desire to shop has been completely squelched, unless it’s for something I can wear or use for activity related to our new lifestyle. My gear clothes are taking a beating!

Only a couple of orders from small local business trying to keep the lights on a little longer (craft beer, flowers for a friend whose birthday was cancelled). People who are housebound are going to need essentials delivered while couriers are going to be overworked and some will fall sick. I have several friends still going into work for non-essential businesses and they would rather their corporations shut down at this point. They don’t feel personally responsible for keeping the economy going while other sectors get to work from home.

I've been torn- I did order some items from Nordie's, but have decided not to order anything else on-line for now. I do have a bit of a soft spot for them, weird as that sounds. If my kids start to outgrow sneakers, then I'll need to order those. I'm buying groceries in person, because I want those delivery services to be as available as possible for people who are unable to leave their homes even in more normal times, or are high risk. Some things are going by the wayside- like my usual hair styling products- because I can only find those on-line, so I'll be trying something new from my drugstore.

I have ordered a couple of things and now feel kind of guilty and a little worried about it. One is a cover for a new phone I got several weeks ago. The other order is three pairs of jeans, of which I intend to keep one, assuming one works out. I ordered them during Nordstrom's 25% off sale. But now I'm worried about trying on the jeans when they arrive. The phone cover will be packaged. I can wipe down the package, or not, and wash my hands copiously after disposing of the packaging. But how does one disinfect jeans without washing them. Clearly I didn't think it through enough before ordering!

No - as much as I would like to find a few things I have in mind to finish organizing and decorating - it's not the time for me to be spending and ordering things that who-knows-how-many other people have touched, and where . I'm just keeping notes for when public life returns and buying a few things seems ok. Essentials are food and other groceries and I'm buying them in person as long as stores stay open. I have to say I'm kind of amazed at people buying clothes and other such things.

This is something I was wondering myself, Laura. I have been holding off on buying things from North America or Europe because I don't want to put any additional pressure on those involved in packing and shipping goods, who are probably working in really awful conditions in those areas right now. If there are sellers/shippers in these areas where people know for sure that employees are being treated properly I would appreciate the information.

Mixed feelings. I don’t think Nordstrom will go bankrupt without me, but I did finally order some things I had in my shopping bag: bras, a pair of pants that I planned on buying anyway. Then I read about the poor treatment of packers and delivery folks. I may order food items I can’t get nearby.

(This is not really off-topic but I figured some are trying to avoid the c-word.) I am honestly of two minds about it and can't decide which is the wiser path. I know a lot of stores are offering big discounts right now, and I know that buying now may provide them cash flow to keep paying their employees and reopening when they can. But I also know that warehouse workers and shipping company folks are totally overwhelmed at the moment, and few of them have sick leave and benefits and they're being asked to work in unsafe circumstances. What are you choosing to do?
