Marianne -- those are exactly the jeans I was looking at on the site! So helpful, thank you.

Also, Joy (and by extension, Shiny) -- that information is incredibly valuable. Nordstrom seems to provide those front/back measurements but I would not have known what to make of them without this advice. Makes perfect sense, though -- the bigger the difference between the back and front, the more room they are probably leaving in back for curves.

I really appreciate all this guidance, even if I find it frustrating that female clothing can be so complicated it takes a whole online community of intelligent women to pitch in and make sense of it. (At the same time, so glad that community exists...)

I have similar fit issues and I have a pair of 7FAM Roxanne skinnies (also recommended here by Angie). You might want to check them out when you're at Nordstrom. They are fairly low rise but I am taller, so they may fit you in a different way. They do have a variety of cuts and some of the styles I've tried in the past seemed to be better suited for a curvier figure.

April, shiny once gave me a wonderful explanation of what to look for. I also need to fit boyish hips. Basically you want a jean with the least difference in back rise and front rise measurements. If two pair of jeans have front rise measurements of 8 and back rise measurements are 11 and 13, the one that's 11 will probably work best for you. Watch out for back pocket placement. Sometimes a great pair of jeans has pockets ending up half way down my thighs. Ideally they should be high and close together.
In your small size it will be hard to find jeans that aren't super low rise. All my jeans are from resale, but the most flattering and with a decent rise are Lucky brand Classic dungarees with a button fly.

April, I hope Shiny responds because it sounds like you have some of the same fit issues. She really likes COH. As San already mentioned, much of it is trial and error.

April, too bad you don't live near Vancouver (BC, Canada)! One of the "sister cities", where the airport is, is called Richmond and has a predominantly Asian population. I bet you'd have no problem finding tons of jeans to fit your very small size and straight shape there. Best of luck to you! If all else fails, you could always have your jeans taken in by a tailor.

Maya: yes, so sorry to create confusion -- you sussed out the problem exactly. I'm already in the lowest size so can't go down one.

San: this is great! I didn't know they had a sale page.

If I were less lazy, I could merely drive to Nordstrom's and try on jeans for a while. There is an elite mall with a Nordstrom's anchor about a 30-minute drive from me. I'm sure I'll end up doing that, just wondered if the experts could steer me toward a certain brand, or a style within a certain brand.

The link won't work for me. I think it won't link to the group of jeans. Here is a link to one of the pair of jeans on the sale page, you can navigate around from there.

This is the Nordstrom's sale page for denim. If you measure and get an idea of what front and back rise will work for you maybe you will find something here at a great price. You will also see the size conversion, a size 27 is a 2-4 etc. After you wash them a couple of times Nordstrom's will hem them for you.
I am not petite, but your fit in the hips and rear sounds like mine. I have to get the straighter in the hip, boyish jeans. You will see in each description an explanation on each pair about the fit in the hips and the leg cut. It is really trial and error. If you can find a pair of trouser cut for slim hips, you can have them hemmed and the trouser cut should retain it's shape. A bootcut jean that is hemmed several inches may lose the bootcut shape because the bell of it would be cut off. Straight leg jeans or skinnies would be good too for the same reason.
I did see a pair on the page that I thought would fit my boyish hips but they were out of my size 27. You did not say your size but I hope they have it for you. The COH Faye, David Kahn trouser jeans, or David Kahn petite jeans may work for you. Good luck. If you see a pair that may work, post any questions and maybe someone here will be familiar with the brand and cut.

I'm confused by what you mean when you say regular sizes are too big in the hip. Can't you just size down? Or are you the smallest size available?

Shiny also has narrow hips so that bodes well for you. I don't think you can generalize a whole brand though. Some 7FAM jeans fit me well even though I am very curvy on the bottom, but some (like the Roxannes) would be horrible on me. It's more about the specific style.

I am just beginning to look at premium jeans after a long and frustrating battle to find good fits at the right length. I noted Shiny's positive comment about 7 For All Mankind jeans, and was hoping you denim experts could provide some input. I did read the great thread from a few months ago -- started by Nicole, I think -- where people talked about the pros and cons of premium jeans. I feel that I will have plenty of time to do research while I'm waiting for the jeans to go on sale . ;)

So, here are my fit issues. I am 5'2" and have a regular-length torso on shorter legs. Lately I'm finding that "petite" jeans are just too short (making me think they must be made for third-graders!) but regular sizes are too big in the hip.

I am an inverted triangle with no hips to speak of but not much waist curvature. I am not completely flat in the back, but anything that emphasizes curves in the rear would be a good thing. I do not need a tummy tuck panel. A lower rise -- but not extremely low like the teens wear them -- fits better because on a straight torso, a higher, curving-in waist tends to feel too tight.

Sooo.... based on your experiences, are there 7 For All Mankind jeans for short-legged, non-curvy, middle-aged women?

And if not, what kind should I be looking for?
