Very brave! I also like the grey. Denim shopping can take some time and patience. I actually get all of mine from Ashley Stewart. I have them fit in the hips and then tailored to the waist and hemmed to my 5'2 height. It took me a few months to finally find the right ones. Then I stocked up.

I like the gray top very much. It is closer fitting in back, but not too tight (skin tight would be too tight) in my opinion. It seems a great fit to me, loose and stylish, but it FITS. It is the right size for you- shows off your waistline. If it was just as loose and drapey in the back as the front, it might end up looking like a big baggy bubble. HA. (Personally, I like this kind of top on myself because it hides my lumpy tummy yet flatters the part of me which really deserves it - my back.)

I was feeling really guilty because I was just lightly scanning all the topics before posting, but luckily Chris987 touched on what I was going to say. Basically, your perfect fit is going to be a combination of what works on your body to satisfy objective "fit" points plus what feels happy to you to wear. A super fitted pair of skinny jeans might objectively fit brilliantly, but if you aren't comfortable and happy in them, then they aren't a good fit.

What do you see in those jeans' fit that you aren't happy with? What would you love to highlight? Once we know that, the forum can get you sorted!

Oh, you are brave posting the back view. I am usually happy to bury my head in the sand and cheerfully pretend I am a two-dimensional being whose backside doesn't exist. :)

That being said, I don't see anything wrong with the gray top. The front view is fab and the back view is fine. I think Angie's right about the jeans bagging out, but I wouldn't use that as a reason to believe jeans aren't for you. Here's a secret: try looking for jeans whose back pockets drop below the curve of your bottom. That seems to flatten things out for us curvy types and ensures you're not getting the dreaded "mom jeans" effect.

Can't add much to the great advice already given except to reiterate that you should plan to try on a lot of diff brands/styles to find what works for you and don't get too frustrated. Everyone is different, and the brands all vary quite a bit. One person's perfect fit is another person's "no way".

Try different brands and different price points, think of it as a research project and at the end you will know what to buy.....and definitely post some pictures here, we will help you. Take written notes too, that's what I have to do or I lose track of all the details.

Good luck, try to have fun along the way!

That's a lovely grey top! Persist in the jeans quest, and know that shopping for jeans and pants is difficult at every size. Any problem with fit is truly not you - it's the jeans. You can definitely find the right ones if you are persistent and picky.

That said, my pants generally gap at the waist and sag at the bum to accomodate my proportionally much more shapely thighs and calves. I should be more patient and picky myself. Instead I wear long tops!

Like Rachylou, I like some stretch. More than likely, you'll have to try on a lot of jeans to find a pair that fits properly. Sadly, that's what I have to do, too. It's well worth it, though, when you find that perfect pair.

I think your top is fine and I'd keep it. The jeans fit thing is as others said tricky for everyone. I'd go for a darker color I think and consider brands you haven't tried before - I've ordered and re-ordered probably 20 brands of jeans online through the past few years to find a couple of brands that I like and now depend on.

I think your top is lovely and I don't see any fit issues. I love it when a blouse combines a bit of stretch knit in the back with a woven in the front - helps make it so comfortable and practical too.

My advice to you re: jeans is keep an open mind. You might do a little online research before you go -- there are a LOT of different names for jeans (boyfriend, girlfriend, skinny, bootcut..) and it can get overwhelming so just knowing the general gist of each kind of jean might make it easier. That said don't discount any type of jean for starters. Try a bunch on and post the photos. You've got a whole forum happy to help you find a great pair. You may not end up buying a pair the first day, so just know that going in.

eta: you can also shop online, but I find it harder to compare pants that way unless you are comfortable having some $ wrapped up in items in the mail headed hither and thither.

I want to second what RachyLou said. I bought these Kut from the Kloth earlier this year and they are perfect. They have just the right amount of stretchiness to fit me well and they are lighter/more comfortable than "normal jeans." They read jeans, but fit like jammies.

Tee, hee, hee. I'm the exception that proves the rule: The famous Kut from the Kloth Catherines don't seem to work for my body. I have a couple of de$igner jean$ on their way to me -- just for kicks, but I doubt they will fit and flatter my particular body. Some brands that fit few others on this Forum work for me -- so it goes to show that you may need to kiss quite a few frogs before you find your prince brand and cut.

Have you tried half tucking? I don't like tunics because I have heavy thighs and short legs, but I like long tops to hide my pancake flat butt. The half tuck in the middle or on the side gives me a longer leg line. An asymmetrical or shark bite top will do the same thing, but I haven't yet found one that is shouting or even whispering my name at a price I want to pay.

I think the gray top is great, if you are unsure you could wear it with an open jacket, but I usually don't worry about back cling unless it shows my bra: straps or cinching, and this looks fine, not that tight.

You look fine in jeans, I wouldn't worry about that at all, just focus on fit as others mention. To my particular eye 80% of what makes an effective jean or trouser outfit (as long as the rise is right and size) is how it looks at the ankle and how it works with the shoe. Wearing pants or jeans that are cropped or rolled or turned up, with shoes that work well with the ankle opening and crop length (and no visible socks, although visible skin can be great) really can do heavy lifting to make the whole outfit look structured and pulled together. Having structure and interest at the ankles and feet, and in the sleeves (pushed up, rolled, or interesting shapes), and at the neckline draws visual attention away from any other areas as well in my experience -- which can help if I'm feeling less confident on a particular day.

I don't see an issue with your jeans. And echo what others have said that if it doesn't feel right to you though, try on several different brands. It sometimes takes me a dozen or so till I find one - when my favorites are no longer stocked.

What Joy said. Everyone can find jeans that work for them, but it will mean trying on a lot of different pairs.

You don't necessarily have to wear tunics with jeans, though -- tops that end at the low hip often look good.

There are some great jeans out there that will fit you, but trying on is sometimes worse than shopping for a swimsuit. You just have to take the time and do it. There are different fabrications, rises in front and back, pocket placement, leg widths and styles and much more to consider. If you haven't tried them, try Kut From the Kloth (KUT). They seem to work for many people and are a decent quality without being designer pricey. Even then, they have different styles.

There is a great pair of jeans for every body. Angie will suggest some brands that might work, I'll bet. It does take a lot of patience to find the right fit, but if you try enough, you will find it. And while you're in the process of looking, I hope you will be gentle to yourself. (And I know it's tough!) But you are not alone. Probably every single woman on this forum has to try on a lot of jeans to find ones that fit. The challenge is not confined to one body type or another.

As for the top, I agree with you about the fit -- it looks great in front but the back is too clingy. I would pass (if you can return) and see if you can find another.

Ok, you guys have been super supportive up to now so I'm being brave and posting a rear view picture of me in jeans/trousers.
I've never felt they suited me and only wear them when I'm in a "don't care" mode.
I wear a lot of skirts and dresses but being a home educator in a very outdoorsy setting I sometimes I do need to wear jeans depending on the activity.
I feel wearing tunics over jeans will make it look like I'm desperate to hide my but t...which I am but is rather not make it obvious!
Are there any better alternatives?

Ps is this top ok? I've just bought it and love the front but I realise the back clings. The front is gorgeous though
