I would take the veil off after the ceremony. That's what both me and my sister did at our weddings. We both wore a cathedral length veil that has been in my family for several generations. I had bought a new headpiece and removed the veil from the old headpiece and used combs to attach it to the new one so it was easy to remove after the ceremony without ruining my hair. I talked to my hairdresser about it before the wedding and brought it all in so we could talk about the best way to manage the veil/headpiece/hair situation.

I am struck by how much better this dress looks on you than on the model. I think it suits your body type better.

I will be no help with the veil, I'm afraid. I had a very short one and left it on for the whole reception. It was attached to a wide hairband kind of thing. Which is a rather awkward way of describing something that was actually kind of cute.

But I think you would look lovely with an updo and flowers in your hair.

Angie and BJ: I hadn't even thought of removing the veil after the ceremony. That's a great idea! I'm not really a fan of veils, but I like the idea of wearing my mom's for sentimental value and "something old."

Rae, I had forgotten about Modcloth doing that. I've noticed that ASOS sometimes does it too, especially w/ american designers, I guess because they have to import them back to the UK even if they sell it to someone in the US? I always found it a little sketchy that Modcloth in particular doesn't always tell you the brand of the items they mark up so you either have to know the item or have an eagle eye.

Annatie, you have a good eye! I think you are right about the ruffles and the back neckline being different. Still, it's VERY similar. I wonder if it's something like bj suggested, where the same factory made both dresses and just made very subtle changes for the two companies.

Rachy, I think the baggier fit on the Ruche model is mostly due to the dress being too big for her. In the lookbook photos (on a different model) it looks a bit more filled out. I agree that the more fitted look is preferable.

Gorgeous dresses! They're very similar, but I do think they're different. Specifically in two places that I see.

1. The back of the Macy's dress seems to be more of a sharper and deeper u-shape (although that could be the angle of the photo) than the Ruche dress. Certainly the two tiers of layers across the upper back are larger and more flowing in the Ruche dress.

2. Then look at the tiers of layers in the skirt of both dresses. The Macy's dress's skirt layers gather together in the front, off-set from the center. The Ruche dress's skirt layers gather together exactly at the left side seem.

HOWEVER, both dresses are the same fabric with incredibly similar styles. It looks to me like the Ruche model didn't have the dress fit to her body, where as the Macy's model did, so the Ruche one looks more flow-y and the Macy's more fitted.

These photos of the Macy's dress on a different model might help you envision it differently. The colors help it stand out against the white background. http://www1.macys.com/shop/pro.....Type=PDPZ1

the first thing to go was the veil after the ceremony. so wear anything that won't overwhelm and fascinate-or on!

ps; i think there was a story on factories in china manufacturing the same goods and putting different labels on the items for shipment to the consumer markets. so no surprise that there are two identical dresses sold at different price points. of course, the materials could be different which can't be evaluated from a photo and would obviously influence the price.

The Ruch is baggier up top, sorta '20s. I don't fancy it as much as the Macy's. It's a little sloppy to me.

I like the idea of a fascinator. I'm not sure how I feel about a veil. The dress has "veils" already. Then again, you have to have a veil!

I think I might try to wear my mom's veil, which would also affect the hair options. I have not even seen the veil IRL so I need to wait until Xmas time to try it. I was also offered my MIL's veil but it is literally larger than I am and longer than the dress, plus the headband thing (which is kind of hideous, like a satin tiara) doesn't even remotely come close to being big enough for my head. My mom's is supposedly a LOT smaller (she had it cut down to a much shorter length when she wore it).

Honestly, I don't even really know how a veil works or where one sticks it on one's hair. So clueless. =P If not for the sentimental value I'd probably choose a fascinator like the one in the first couple of the Ruche photos above. Can one wear a veil AND a fascinator?

Happens a lot, I think. Every once in a while Modcloth will have something that I've seen at a mall store for way cheaper. Shoes seem generally more spendy at Sundancecatalogue, too. I think it's just a difference of business models - what they have to charge, what they can get away with with their customer base...

I think you should to a hair test with both options!

Yes, but Ruche had to pay more for photography and styling?
The pics are lovely - if they remind you of your chosen venue, then you are doing well with this wedding planning thing.

Beautiful dress! If you don't want an updo, maybe a half up/half down style will work? It's fun to do something fancy with your hair on your wedding day, plus it will keep your hair out of your way during all the wedding festivities.

ROFL! I looked at your pics before looking at your links, and the first thought that popped into my mind was that I'd seen that same dress at the Macy's website. Then I noticed that you posted a Macy's link. If it's not the exact same dress, it's very similar.

No need for an updo unless you want to.

Adrianna Papell dress that I ordered, currently my top wedding dress contender:
http://www1.macys.com/shop/pro.....;RVI=PDP_5

Ruche Margarete gown:
http://shopruche.com/noelle-in-ivory.html

They look very similar if not identical, and the specs are the same. If so, then Ruche is really ripping people off. I do like how they have styled it in their lookbook though (screenshots below), and one of their shooting locations (the grove of trees) is very similar to my wedding venue. It has me thinking maybe I don't want my hair in an updo after all.
