hmm, since I ride horses, I ya know brush them from mud and crud all the time, and I don't see why they would be a problem to keep clean ...but they might yellow a bit over time. There are products used on the horses socks (i mean the white hair on lower legs) to whiten them again...so well, buy and enjoy from me!

Whoa. I have no idea if those are practical, but they are so many shades of cool I have to blink to see them straight. I LOVE chelsea boots and these are just amazing.

I personally couldn't spring for them...but if I had a lot of money, I would. Practical or not.

I have problems keeping white shoes white and I live in an area of the country where it rarely rains. Just walking down the street or sitting and accidentally rubbing one shoe against the other, will get them dirty. I think they will be impractical unless the calf hair is super easy to clean.

Hah! Anna I have a very similar boot that I'm debating about as well; same type of shape, but all white and plain leather. Definitely don't seem practical to me, but I think I might get them anyway. So I'm afraid I'm no help.

Those are all kinds of cool. My question is, how OK are you with slightly muddy toes? I don't know how calf hair responds to getting a bit wet, but I suspect that the toes will go gray. If that's part of the look you want, I say go for it. If you want them pristine, maybe not.

I have a pair of white leather tall boots that have stayed really white, and I live in drizzly Vancouver. I wear them all the time. But the leather is less likely to absorb dirt. Again, I'm not sure how calf hair is going to be.

The hair part of the hide is fine to get wet, but they have bleached it to get it white, and I don't know how the hair would react to dirt. Could be it will just shed water and dirt with a rinse, or could be a dusty muddy nightmare.

Well, as we talked about on a thread of mine from a while ago, when I was considering calf hair Docs, this is the outside of the cow hide (vs. the smoother inside that is "leather"). In other words, this is what the cow has to cover itself from all of the elements. So if a cow can withstand rain and snow, then I would think that boots made with the hide would be pretty durable at least in terms of moisture. The white is another story.

The combination of white and calfhair spells disaster to me. But you may be more capable of remaining pristine than I am. If there is mud or slush to be found, it will attach itself to me.

For me they would be. It all depends on where you wear them and how hard you are on shoes.

Well, they certainly aren't practical! But as for *too* impractical - that's up to you to decide. How much is too much? Will being able to wear them 3 weekends out of the season because the weather allows be enough to make them worth it? Not for me, but maybe for you.
