I love my La Canadienne's. I wear them all day and I'm on my feet off and on, and they are really comfy. They also have a non-slip sole and the insides of my pair have a very nice lining. Sorry if this is gross, but my feet stay drier in them than they do in cheaper shoes.

Quality aside, those boots are what I'd call dressy. I really like the Clarks Cardy boots, so that's a good choice if you don't mind the heel height.

I recently bought some similiarly styled boots on sale. They have a lower heel, which is what my fussy feet crave, and the price (I got them for just over $100 incl. shipping) was reasonable:

But now I'm really thinking about the Clarks Cardy! I had an Amazon coupon for the La Canadienne and they don't have the Clarks Cardy in stock, so I think I'm going to see how the La Canadienne fit and if I need to return them I'll try the Clarks. Thanks for that tip, Thistle!

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. The quality bugs me. I know LE stands by their products but it bugs me that I don't trust that they'll last. So, I just ordered a pair of La Canadienne Dawson boots (they look awesome and the brand is supposed to be good so we'll see). I'm a bit worried that the heel (2.55") might be less comfortable so I'll have to try it out.

I would say that the boots are dressy. Whether they are high quality or not is a different question, and a more personal one. How much does it bother *you* that the leather feels cheap? Are you hoping for a boot that will last you through several years of heavy wear, or one that you'll wear a few times a month for one or two boot seasons?

I agree with Caro. If they don't make you feel fab, and hard to do with the quality you are describing, I would return them and keep looking.

Save the money on these and put it toward a pair you love.

Not sure how much of a heel you are okay with, but here is a nice pair from Clarks. I am a fan of their line. Comfy yet with style.

I would consider those dressy. I have a similar shape boot that I bought about (yikes!) six years ago and have worn consistently as a dressy but comfortable boot for work. With that said, leather quality is important. Mine have lasted so long and still look good because they are gorgeous quality leather. If you are okay with these lasting two years, they are probably a good, safe bet. However, mine were only a hundred dollars more and still look great, so I think they were a better investment for me.

The look is good, but if the quality of the leather feels cheap, it probably is. If you absolutely want holy grail, I'd say keep looking. They could be a good pair for this year while you're still looking, if you don't already have a pair and can afford to get these while you shop for the best ones.

I'm back - I had asked about the dressiness of the Frye Rory boots, and after lots of debate, sent them back. I'm looking for the holy grail, I think: tall black boots that are appropriate for work with skirts and dresses and easy to walk in (heel <2.5 inches). I have the Land's End Emory Low Heel at home...I don't LOVE it but I like it.

Are these boots dressy?

What I don't love:
- It doesn't seem high quality (I paid $124) - the leather feels cheap and the seems aren't great.

What I do love:
- Very comfortable
- Fit is great - height of boot and circumference seem made for me
