My coated skinnies (Rich & Skinny ( not that I'm either one!) are really comfy - they are stretchy but don't stretch out. I like these but I'd prefer either hardware or coated, to keep it from being too much trend in one piece.

Those are very cool jeans, love the exposed zipper too. They seen to be very short in the rise which would never work on my long torsoed self. But they would be fantastic on the right shape.

I only have one pair of coated jeans, JBrands and they are very wearable. The shine does wear off a bit over time though. Great sales at Ssense this weekend, placed an order this morning. I like to do my online shopping in Canada when I can to avoid the duties and returning is way less of a hassle.

I wholeheartedly agree with you Caro and Mary. It's just so hard to know ahead of time if a piece is perfect. And I hate to make costly mistakes. At least they are within Canada, so returning is an option. Mary I like your attitude on purchases, I'm headed in that direction myself.

I love 'em. You could definitely pull them off. (I also look at the price per wear). If I am going to wear something over and over again, sometimes it costs pennies per wear. I LIVE for those items.

My goal for 2013 is to take the tried and true items and update them with the best I can afford. I may only purchase six items in 2013, but they will be equal to my 2012 clothing budget. Don't consider cost if you know you will wear them.

I love them rae. I always look at these pieces through a cost per wear eye. If I'm going to wear them for the next two seasons at least twice a week & if they feel fantastic every time I wear them.....then they make sense. Sometimes it is hard to know if they are true love or a fad though.

Good points Janet! It's actually not the coated denim look I like, but the hardware. I love all the zippers. Is it me though? I don't know....

Found a tamed down pair by J Brand....still pricey though....$391

They are very, very cool. Keep in mind though, there are a lot of coated jeans out now at a variety of price points. I ended up buying a pair with very simple skinny jean treatment, and no extra trendy touches like zippers, etc. As much as love hardware, I think the simple treatment makes them a bit more versatile. I wore them out for casal dinner last night with heeled booties, a tee and scarf, but I could also dress them more up or down.

I tried on at least a dozen coated jeans before buying the pair I chose, and some are stiffer than others. The ones I got are just a bit on the stiff side, but they were the most flattering on me of all I tried, and I actually felt them loosen and soften as I wore them for just a few hours.

I would think about what you have to wear with the jeans and where/how you would wear them. I have one pair of skinnies with zippers on the lower leg/ankle, and they fit in cowboy boots, but are uncomfortable in other slimmer-cut tall boots. Also, is the zippered treatment combined with the coated finish part of your style moving forward? It's a lot of trend in one garment.

Lastly, I'll pass along some advice Angie gave me on coated jeans -- don't be afraid to go up a size. Many of them are cut very slim and don't have a lot of give. I found them very tricky, size wise, but I also have a challenging build for skinny jeans (big thighs and hips, no booty, slim waist, and long inseam) so YMMV. You're much slimmer than I am so you may find it much easier to find the perfect fit!

True Suz, I bet there are many cheaper options. I really like the zip fly though, and the stitching around it. I don't know if I'll find that. These ones are just a little too much for "fun" jeans though.

I'll bet you could find something similar at a lower price point.

I have some coated jeans that are fun to wear; not uncomfortable. Actually, mine are the Bleulab reversible kind - regular denim on one side and coated on the other. I got them on sale and considering it was two jeans for the price of one, I figure it was a good investment. They are surprisingly one of my more comfortable jeans!

Very wise Atlantia. And I actually have a list of what I "need"...and they are not on there of course. I think my black skinny jeans probably fit the role fine.....sigh....so nice though.

My gut reaction is that the price point is "investment piece" territory. And those jeans, while awesome, are not investment pieces because of the trendiness. Seriously cool though.

They could probably be wearable. I wonder if it would be comfortable to tuck them into tall boots with the zippers at the bottom. You could certainly do booties. Pricey though.

I really like these, but I'm not sure if they are just day-to-day wearable. Would they be wearable with boots and a blouse? Also can anyone chime in about the feel of coated pants? Are they uncomfortable or stiff? They're on sale but still horrendously expensive. They do have my size though.
