I'm pretty slow on the trend front but I'm at least trying now and that's a big step forward. I've been sizing up on jeans and pants ever since I discovered the BF look here on YLF. My old jeans now just seem downright tight and are mostly in the donate drawer. Which is a very large drawer I might add.

Even for skinny/straight jeans I prefer to size up now. I bought one pair recently that were slim and in my usual (old usual) size and I must admit I am enjoying those. Vanity I guess.

I own a slew of slouchy tees. In fact, I've wondered if I should order some a size down because most of mine are pretty slouchy and I've been wearing that loose fit for a while now. But, I decided instead to try some new shapes, boat necks tees, dolman sleeves (tried one but returned it so it's still on my shopping list), etc.

Instead of a bomber jacket I bought a moto style jacket in waxed black denim for this coming fall/winter. I can't wait to wear it. Maybe not so "trendy" per se, but I don't know, I am seeing a lot of moto inspired things still being advertised heavily.

I'd like a longer blazer in a very light weight, unlined (washable) fabric but that seems to be nearly impossible to find. And with our summer predominant season it's hard to justify a high price tag for one.

And I have yet to embrace the clutch. I have such a hard time as it is dealing with an armful of stuff, it just seems counterproductive to my lifestyle. Where will I stash my sunglasses without crushing them in a relatively flat clutch? Where do I put my cool mesh shopping bags that scrunch up to less than a tennis ball size and fit in my currently bigger handbag?

I've definitely been sizing up in jeans and trousers but haven't bought the boyfriend jean yet. In footwear I've added some smoking slipper type loafers and a pair of metallic sneakers.
I still have my leggings but seldom wear them. Maybe the short ones will get worn this summer.
I know what you mean about dresses. I'm close to allowing shorter dresses into my closet because I can't find longer replacements and don't want knit jersey.

i've purged my super close fitting jackets but kept the fitted less snug ones. i still have several generously cut, but structured jackets in my closet that i purchased eons ago that are now back for rotation.

i have been living in dolman sleeved and cocoon/drapey knits for a year. will be replacing some knit basics in a larger size or looser cut.

BUT, i have not adopted the slouchy bf trend yet. i have 1 pair that i like, but not love, and will wear. my heart beats faster when i wear my waxed navy leggings under tunics or loose tops. and i just jumped on the jumpsuit trend which is on its way out probably, but i don't care because i luff it.

I've noticed this, too. I badly needed to update my work wardrobe and surprised the heck out of myself when three of the five tops I bought were flowy or had dolman sleeves. And I'm loving the change! I didn't realize how bored I'd gotten with my usual picks. The key for me was finding loose tops with a defined shoulder line. They give my narrow shoulders the structure they need, but still look very modern. So, even if this particular style doesn't stick around for longer than a year or two, I am very happy with the update for now.

I feel this so much. I feel like the majority of my clothing is cut too tight now. It has kind of taken me by surprise how I feel it so strongly now, but a year ago it wasn't even on my radar. I am also wondering how long this will last before I start purging huge amounts of clothes. On the other hand I feel like I have seen the light a little bit to start incorporating more ease in fit from now on. It's more accomodating to little fluctuations in weight and just more comfortable. I am still feeling out though how to walk the fine line between some ease in fit and things just being plain too large on me.

I bought slouchy pants for (our) summer & liked them so much I bought a trans-seasonal pair. I also bought some silver pointed toe booties, a clutch & some looser tees (silk). I have a couple of longer line blazers but I'm not loving them yet (maybe they need to be replaced).

My body (the top half anyway) really needs structure so I intend to keep wearing my shorter shaped jackets but I'll pair them with looser shirts/tops. This is if our weather co-operates. It's back to the high 20C to low 30C (mid-eighties) again this week:)

Ditching some skirts that are shorter. I've been all over looser, draping tops for a couple years now. Really over the tight tops but have to wear some at work but I'm doing so with BF jean bottoms
Losing interest in extra embellishments and doodads. Streamlined is appealing to me now.

Well, I added harem type pants and most recently pointy shoes. I've also been buying tops to fit looser and longer and am preferring skirts to hit at the knee, not above. I have a number of longer, tea-length skirts that I have always worn and will keep on wearing; they're structured tho.
I bought a pair of white bf jeans. Plus I bought a pair of 3" wedge sandals with no platform in front and passed on the platforms. Both additions have me feeling really updated! Also, I had both on a list for 2-3 months so the purchases were very much planned.

I never stopped wearing pointy toes. I ordered a bomber jacket but hated how I looked in it so much that I'm not going to try that silhouette again any time soon. I think that's it!

HAHAHAHAH, Vix!! We posted at the same time.

Jean, it's definitely sticking around as the "fashionable and directional fit". No worries. Wearing most things a little looser is the way to go.

As for the longer skirts and dresses - DON"T GET ME STARTED. It's a true sore point. Longer lengths all over the runways, yet nothing at a retail level that is remotely affordable. You should not have to pay over a thousand dollars for a longer skirt!

Do you think this trend will be here for a short period of time?
I have noticed it on the runways but did not think it would translate to mainstream as much as it has. I have certainly embraced it more these days because of its ease and how well it suits my lifestyle.
I hope it does not disappear too quickly.
Wear have the longer skirts gone?
** xposted with Angie since I was writing so slowly! **

Hi GG --

I *do* feel like this season is when the oversized and/or boxy, flowy, slouchy, loose trend(s) have gone really mainstream.

Over the last few years I've rotated in or replaced looser, dolman-sleeved or blouson tops, skimming shells, trousers, longer slouched cardigans etc -- but was also buying and wearing fitted knits and classic structured pencil skirts/dresses and blazers and never felt off wearing an outfit that was fitted head-to-toe.

This spring I really feel I have to have at least 1 item on that's looser/flowy to feel modern...and I hate that, ha!

I had to do a big-for-me shop for spring/summer work clothes and went about 50/50 in terms of fitted vs flowy. So...I'm with you on trying to wear older things in new ways (or at least with the newer items).

Results that include old and new here:

Expanding my warm weather clothing capsule in a red hot hurry

ps Not sure where your preferred skirt hem length went (sorry!). Now that you mention it I feel as if I'm seeing longer in flowy/unstructured skirts -- be they Eileen Fisher or more avant garde designers -- vs in straighter cuts.

I watch the runway shows across all the major cities twice a year very closely. And you know how much I enjoy interpreting them, and seeing when something will hit retail, and how long it will take for this to happen :)

To answer your question Jean, these shifts have been pretty gradual from runway to retail. The
more relaxed look has been big (pun intended) for a while, and is becoming more and more mainstream. It's when the trend becomes mainstream that most people finally notice!

Well yes and no. On fashion sites/blogs there are looser, boxier silhouettes, but as evidenced by the "are you seeing people wear bf jeans" thread, nobody seems to be wearing them.

I don't shop specifically to be on trend so it doesn't affect me in that way. I'm happy to still be seeing more fitted items in stores.

Has anyone noticed how much difference there has been lately in regard to silhouettes?
For the first time in years I have felt the need to deliberately add a few key pieces to my wardrobe in order to remain current, such as:
boyfriend jeans
bomber jacket
longer, unstructured blazer
oversized boxy t shirts.
pulled out the pointy toe pumps for dress
I think the addition of these few items has tremendously helped me keep things modern.
Many things I already own can be worn, just in new ways.
For example- cropped, fitted jackets with slouchier pants, oversize tshirts with skinny jeans.
I do hope some of these trends stick around,
I do not know what happened to longer dress and skirt hems- wish that they had stuck around longer, I am still wearing them.
Are there items that any of you have recently purcheded in order to update your wardrobe in response to the latest trend shifts?
Is anyone still wearing leggings?
