You're very welcome, Jules. I hope you can find a pair that works for you!

Thanks Rachy:-)

Suz - I think the ones you have on order are slightly different than the blue BR "Cloud Fleece" ones (which are fleece and have a brushed lining)? Keep us posted!

I bought the Athleta lined joggers this fall and find them both light and warm - but probably not for temps lower than 40 F. For those days I break out the Athleta polartec pants.

Your best bet is probably a fleece-lined jogger I think, but most of those probably fall within the "normcore baggy fleecy ones" you mentioned.

I've added a few below, but maybe those are all the ones you don't want;-)

https://www.uniqlo.com/eu/en/p.....39093.html

I quite like those quilted down joggers from Athleta (look at the last photo in both colourways, the model is sporting them with booties and that really works to my eye). And wonder exactly how warm the Everlane wide-leg pant is (it has 57% wool and 7% yak hair...). No elasticated cuff though. I might be tempted to wear (fleece-lined) leggings underneath those:-)

I think your best bet is to check companies that do activewear and travelwear. Athleta has jogger cuts in just about all of their fabrics, from very breezy to more tightly woven, durable options. I would imagine Lululemon has cold weather options too, but I don't know their product line as well. Companies like LL Bean and Eddie Bauer might have something that would work. I suspect what you want is a probably a stretch-woven fabric with a fleece interior. The woven outer will feel more polished and less bulky than traditional sweats. I'd check Uniqlo too; they do a lot of "pile lined" pants in the winter that are both warm and fairly polished looking, and might have a jogger cut.

Did some browsing, these EB pants look promising:
https://www.eddiebauer.com/p/p.....38;cm_mmc=

In my own experience, I stop reaching for leggings/tights, even really warm ones, below a certain temperature (maybe -7°C or so), because a slightly looser pant creates a pocket of warm air that a legging can't, *and* they accommodate base layers.

Thanks Lisa, we are on the same page about what constitutes ‘fleecy’ sweats (what you describe is the type I avoid and maybe need to try). And point taken about non-sweat fabrics. But two of the pairs I ordered from AE are ‘sweats’, however they are not thick and fleecy fabrics. And they are somewhat loose fitting so there’s definitely an air gap compared to my usual skinny winter styles. They just don’t feel warm and cozy when I put them on (possibly totally subjectively). The corduroy pair is actually pretty snug and feels warm but I wasn’t looking for skinnies, I wanted looser styling. To Zaeobi’s point, the style is more sealed at the bottom than eg. wide legs so they shouldn’t let in new cold air outside. So I guess what I was wondering before I cut the tags was whether that air gap that I perceive as not warm and cozy warms up as you wear them. It’s actually not easy to tell online whether the fabric will be fleecy and winter thick or something thinner like the ones I got. When I ordered and returned some BR sweatpants in spring I wasn’t surprised they were thinner because of the season.

TLDR: Thanks everyone for your valuable input. I realize I’m getting pretty specific above, but there’s been enough feedback that joggers aren’t generally both stylish AND warm that I will proceed with caution. I was hoping for an easy, small style upgrade from leggings but I do really love my comfy leggings

Right, I think Lisa's onto it -- most of the "fashion" joggers are made in a fabric that drapes (so isn't super warm) or else in faux leather or even real leather, which I can't vouch for but can't imagine would be super warm and anyway, the real stuff wouldn't be at a price point you'd want to pay.

Meanwhile, the warm fleecy ones are, yeah, the ones I also loved to hate in the 80s!

Which is why I only own one pair fo joggers, which I like a lot -- but they are summer pants and definitely not warm.

In other words, I'm not at all helpful to you! But, I do think it should theoretically be possible to find such a thing as a warm and fashion-y jogger pant. Just not as easy as you might expect at first blush.

Angie had a good looking pair of velvet pants (not joggers) from Biden on today’s blog post
https://www.bodenusa.com/en-us.....038;tc_ve=

one problem that one might have with these is that they are dry clean only. I would spot clean if needed and freshen with Dryell in the dryer at home. They may also be too short so check the length. I am 5”3” so can probably wear them full length, but they are said to be ankle pants.

I think it depends on the material, but I find them warmer than wide legged trousers since the cuffs mean the legs trap air. I like to wear mine with tights/ leggings underneath for further warmth.

It’s not the style that’s less warm than anything else , it’s the fabric that a lot of joggers ( not sweats tho ) are made of : lightweight nylon ( Lululemon OTF joggers etc) , poly crepe dressier joggers etc. My sweats are nothing fancy : Champion high waisted basic heavy black fleece with a proper knit waistband and cuffed bottom . Roots also makes nice ones .

Lisa, to add on if you are still reading along, can you link to something Iike the fleecy ones you do find essential? I think my aversion to them dates back to my teenage self, which is why I was looking at more styled, maybe more tapered versions (?), but knowing you make them work is making me rethink it for sure.

My warmest, coziest joggers are a velvety fabric with a grosgrain ribbon racing stripe down the side. They have good pockets too. Black on black. I wear them with a black sparkly sweater and black booties. Boots or booties are common worn out year round here. There is usually snow but this year has been dry with little snow, not usually enough to get out a snow shovel. It is making it harder to get dressed. So far the puffer coats, hats and gloves have stayed in the closet.

Joy I think you are right about outfits, they are also awkward to pair with taller boots. I do have fleece lined converse and Timberlands that would work like Lisa mentioned. But I wouldn’t be wearing them on outings to indoor destinations, more as a replacement for leggings which also aren’t ‘real’ clothes for me, but work for working at home and stepping out for a walk or local errands at lunch. Loungewear that can go outside I guess.

Lisa, I was thinking of really any jogger cut pant available in the current season offerings So I did have my eye on the Lulu ones that Style Fan has confirmed are warm enough for her, but ended up comparing them to a variety of similar silhouettes from Lulu, Athleta, etc, and finally ended up on American Eagle (yes where my kids shop) and ordered skinny cord ‘joggers’ (which turned out to be warmish because they are basically skinnies with gathered hem and drawstring waist), ‘denim’ look soft pants which I actually love but don’t seem warm, and a pair i would call fashiony sweatpants but not warm despite having cozy in the name! Your input that the style is not cold weather friendly in general is actually totally helpful and kind of what I was suspecting, I just literally never wore them before (as a hippy teenager in the 80s/90s I really hated sweatpants).

I am going to look at the Lulu ones again tho, thanks Style Fan.

It is easy to find sweat pant joggers but they seem too casua to wear out. Style Fan mentions Lulumom. I have a pair in my skimpy winter pants collection that have a lot of fabric and are full length on me so they are for winters d too warm for warmer seasons. I do not like them very much as a sweater or most tops do not look right with them. They are a strange shade of medium grey and look bluish. I think maybe a fleece top or Teddy jacket would look ok but do not want to invest any more money or time to make them work. Be careful, especially shopping online.

I’m not sure I understand which type of pants you mean if not the norm core fleece sweats. They are , at least for me , the ultimate in coziness for around the house and quick outdoor trips . They look cute with a Chelsea boot , or a Timberland style casual boot , or of course with sneakers . None of the other joggers I own are remotely cozy enough for around the house or warm enough on their own outdoors in the winter . Am I misunderstanding the question ? Sorry if I am

It is important to get full length joggers in a warm fabric. I have a warm pair that are several years old but are a soft faded denim with the fabric brushed inside. I think velvet or velveteen, cords or wool would be warm. A heavy Ponte knit might work too. Because I need an elastic waistband, joggers are the easiest style to find, but almost everything is cropped this year.

My scuba joggers from Lululemon are very warm, and I wear them for dog walking in -30 C weather. I wear Smart Wool knee-high socks with them, but I do that with all my winter pants.
I don't find jeans warm enough for winter walking. I also wear fleece-lined leggings that are windproof.

Mine aren't, and I'd say my jeans and ponte pants are much warmer, but fleece lined ones exist!

Feels like a silly question but are sweatpants/joggers actually warm? If you wear them indoors for coziness and/or outdoors for warmth in a cold climate, do you have preferred fabrics or styles that keep you warm and can pass for casual cute?
For context, I wear the style in cropped twill or linen versions for summer, but oddly enough have never really worn them in (Canadian) winter. My go-tos for winter warmth and coziness have been skinnies - stretchy jeans, cords, leggings - whether indoors or under a long coat. Which all fit close to the skin and don’t let in cold air. I am trying out joggers as an alternative and ordered a few pairs in various fabrications - some are cute, but none feel immediately warm and cozy the way my fleece leggings do. I don’t love the norm core baggy fleecy ones that I imagine would be warm. Not really looking for loungewear here, I was more hoping for something new that would be cozy around the house, but also work under a shorter coat for neighbourhood outings better than leggings do.
