Alasse and KM, great to hear from someone representing the other side of it; my bootcuts and slimmer fitting sweaters are not going anywhere! Just fun to mix it up

I hope fluid-fits stick around for a long time!
I have a form fitting top back in the purge bag after 1 wear last week- I dislike the tugging needed to stop it framing my pouchy lower tummy, and much prefer a more skimming-fit these days!

I'm on the wrong side of fashion! I much prefer fitted, slim-fitting tops and wide-legs, bootcuts, and A-line skirts. So top to bottom, I'm against the current I guess. I appreciate a slim fluid top (especially after pregnancy), but in general too much volume on top doesn't look good on me. I'm short and thin and I feel they overwhelm my figure.

I think fluid fits will persist simply because they are comfortable and flattering like skinnies and oversized sunnies.

Oversized fits - will probably is my hunch - become less fashionable in the next five years.

I recall a post by Angie saying that the move toward fluid and oversized clothing was sticking around for a while:
http://youlookfab.com/2014/10/.....mmer-2015/

http://youlookfab.com/2014/11/.....of-slouch/

In the second link, Angie describes it as a 'watershed change' in fit. That sounds to me like it will be around for a while.

Yes, I've always been happiest when fluid fits are in (and that's at my youngest ages & lowest weights, too!) and now that I'm in my 50s I'm not giving them up again. Sure, I'll augment with a closer cut trendy piece now & again but I know myself & feel confident in creating my own look.

This is precisely why I want to keep a small wardrobe with things that are current and always wearable. I ended up with too many fitted or more body con knits that all-of-a-sudden looked and felt wrong, yet they were perfectly wearable. I figure that by keeping my numbers way down, I'll wear more pieces more often, thus shortening their life span. This feels right to me with the rate that silhouettes and fits are changing lately. Although considered classic, I think fitted knits and blouses look out of date, quite frankly. Even what is 'classic" is always moving along a spectrum with updated fit tweaks .

I think unfrumped summed up how I feel about it. I was never overly comfortable in really fitted garments and I don't feel that overly unstructured loose garments flatter my shape so I go for something in between. I err on the slightly looser side now that fluidity is "in" and I went a little closer to the fitted end of the spectrum a few years ago.

I hope fluid fits will stick around. The way I look at and feel in tops and sweaters has totally changed in the last 6 months. Today I'm wearing a Banana Republic merino v-neck that I just bought last winter. These sweaters have been a big part of my winter wardrobe for the last several years. It fits close to the body and I'm not feeling fab in it. Yesterday I wore a new and looser sweater and I felt fantastic. I'm feeling guilty about some of my older pieces but I think I should tuck them away for a bit.

I think of this every time I try on tops.
I am happy to have added a few oversized ( but not massive) items as well as more routine fluid fit, but also I have been trying to really recognize "me fit" which I think of as fluid- tailored and with a hint of shaping, or with drapiness if boxier. . That means it depends on style and shape and not just sizing up or down, but a brand that " gets me". Shoulders and armholes need to be comfy but not too big. These tend to keep looking right over several years' time, for essentials or higher end items, while allowing rooms for some trendier fits.

I am starting to wonder if anything truly has staying power. It was only a few years ago that K/R posts were most often filled with recommendations to try a size down. I suspect the same posts would be greeted with "try a size up". Everything old is new again and what is fashionable changes fairly quickly.

I am not being cynical but realistic. I am glad that fashion is a moving target. It is what keep us interested.

If you mean have they gone mainstream, I'd say yes, based on what I've seen in stores and what people are actually wearing. How long it'll be before we veer back to a more fitted look, I don't know. I suspect fluid will be good for a year or so at least.

Hi all,

It's taken me a long time to come around on fluid fits, but not that I've started to embrace them I really realize how much more up-to-date I look and feel in them. Although I will always love to have some tailored pieces, I am thinking in 2015 I should move more towards fluid tops (not oversize, but just that bit drapier). My question - is this looking going to stick around? Just don't want to finally get on board when everyone is over it. I think the answer is yes, as more and more basics seem to be sold in this cut, but wanted to check before the Boxing Day sales start :)

Thanks for your thoughts!
