I can't speak predictions. They sort of work for me because they allow at-natural waist styling and pleats--both are great for me. But I probably only feel comfortable sporting them when they are in full-swing style; not something I will try to wear on the downhill. Also they are a struggle for footwear and leg proportions. I'm happy I got one pair and I've resisted buying more, planning instead to wear these more ways for a few more months, or until I get the fashion willies over them, even if yeah, here they are again, same ones.
Variations on pleated or higher-waisted pants are more of a goal to keep updating whenever they're available in some form that works on me, and if there are some fun ways to modernize them, because footwear is easier and they're more practical and I usually need the warmth factor.

Like Deborah, I always have a pair... But my answer is no. They are always fringy. Right from the get go, they've been fringy. I mean, that was about women trying to sneak into wearing pants. Iffy, very iffy. They were even fringy in their 70s heyday - I remember. Yes. I remember my mom trying to push them on me and how I was on the fashion edge in them in grade school. But I love them. You can wear them in the office where you can't wear shorts. They're interesting. Etc. etc. etc.

I have to agree that something that was never really in style (except perhaps in the '80's) cannot really go out of style. I am a big fan of you doing you, though, so if you love them and want to wear them, then do so. Don't be a slave to fashion. I imagine they will look just as out/in 5 years from now as they do today in most areas.

Yes. And now for the long answer. It depends. Like other fabbers have said it depends on where you live, what circles you travel in, how fringey you are, how much you find them fussy, etc.
I love them and have a few pairs in my wardrobe. I have worn them since they first became trendy. I find them easy to style but that has something to do with my body type and my love of the fringe.

If something is never really in style, than can it ever really go out of style?
It seems to me like if you get a pair now, you should be able to wear for quite a while yet.

I just returned from Japan and they are everywhere there.
I was so taken with the look that I purchased some

I seriously doubt it. Culottes are not universally flattering enough. Many women felt the same way about skinny jeans ten years ago, and it's true that they need more careful styling to make them work on certain figures, but there is generally a way to make them look good on everybody. Plus -- and here's the important bit -- they are just so darned useful in a lot of climates. Culottes, on the other hand, tend to make one's bottom look long and flat. I'm not a culotte hater -- they have the same sort of integrity as an A-line skirt, and are sort of retro-cute -- but I don't think they're versatile enough to be one of those garments that never go out of style. I think they'll drift in and out of style, like flared pants.

I remember culottes from when, for a brief time in the very late 80s, they appeared as work suit bottoms. To me the looked neither elegant nor comfortable, so I have them a wide berth. Still glad I had... and not tempted now. But they do appear fresher in 2015, though to me culottes seem to combine all the disadvantages of skirts combined with the worst of trousers

Can't speak directly to their trendiness, as I very rarely see snyone in them IRL, but culottes are an odd bird, to me. Pants that need to be styled like a midi skirt, hmm. Also, I still think of them as a summer-only item, like capris, which limits their versatility. In a mild climate they could work year round, but the silhouette (for me at least) screams summer time. Heavier fabrications just look off to me.

I still see plenty of skinny jeans being worn by girls and women here where I live. I have yet to see anyone wearing culottes. I haven't bought any.

Who knows. They probably will never be as mainstream as skinnies. They're not quite as versatile. I remember when I got my first pair about two years ago, many on the forum did not like them. I do love mine though.

I just know that Angie had them as a fringe item a few years ago. I had a pair I used to wear around 2012 (?). And here they haven't become mainstream by any means, I think wearing them makes you stand out no matter what.
