Is there not room in our lives for things that might color outside the lines, but that we like, feel fierce wearing and "who gives a damn?" Isn't that actually what defines personal style? So what if your style is blingy-butt, tons of layers of cheap jewelry and piled up messy hair with a lot of makeup? That's not my style, but it's OK for others. Where's the fuzzy border where being too harshly judgy begins? Does it begin with ourselves? The flares I just bought have conspicuous butt stitching (hubs calls it "cake frosting"), but the place I got them sells both Silver and Vigoss, so you know they're into that. I don't have a lot of choice in flares that fit, so butt frosting it is. And I'm OK with it. (However, as current as flares are, the store doesn't carry many on the premises, which suggests to me that the customer doesn't "know" they're current and is still buying lots of jeggings and whatnot. This gets into the whole question of what a "trend" is--is it a real trend driven by buyer taste, or is it an artificial dictate steered by what the fashion industry wants to sell us next? Anyway.)</p> <p>My jeans have no actual "bling" (none of mine do), though I wouldn't have minded that much if they had included a few small rhinestones. I myself would draw the line at sharp, rough, or anything that stood out too much. And, I feel like pocket flaps are not as current as they once were (though I know that some ladies continue to really like them), but I also feel like making less-perfectly-current things work is actually pretty fashionable.
