I ended up ordering the black, so we'll see.

Ultimately, I am figuring that because the sleeves are elbow length, and it's a cowl not a t-neck, it shows just enough skin to break up the monotony of the black. After some thought, not all black dresses make me look witchy. It's the black dresses that are long sleeve that do that.

Plus, throw on my cobalt jacket, some colorful bracelets, and wine boots (or red or cream ... who knows what I might buy next winter?)... I think it could work!

Mostly, I just really adore the shape of this dress! Yesterday I tried on a bunch of sweater dresses, Aqua and BR, and this shape was hands-down the most flattering.

(Cross fingers that I'm right in my guestimation that the XS will fit perfectly ... )

That's a gorgeous dress Shiny, it reminds me a bit of that light grey/green BR one in the fall that be both missed on. I would get whatever color you can find in your size, it would be fairly easy to add bright accents.

What a great dress! The pleating reminds me of that BR origami dress that was out in the fall. And I think it was you that was rocking the similarly styled BR champagne colored shirt, right? You should go for it! Adding color would be easy whether you end up with the black one or the grey.

I think it's good to be openminded and willing to try (buy) something that does not quite fit into the box you were hoping to fill. Unless you know for a fact that you can't wear black, then you may be surprised how useful a black sweater dress is (especially since you live in Boston).

Since you like the fit and the shape of the dress, I'd say you can live with the color. You can add color with tights, shoes (wine boots would look great!), scarf, hat, coat/jacket, belt....You are queen of adding colorful accessories!

Very nice dress, Shiny. It looks like the dress is on sale, but I don't know if the sale was better in the store? I like the charcoal better, but you could add color with shoes, tights or accessories on the black. Having said this, you only need so many cashmere dresses so if you really want it in charcoal, then hold off.

Of all the Aqua sweater dresses, this is the one I like best. So I really hope you get it in charcoal. I think calling is a great idea or maybe just wait a little while to see if it falls into the 40% off category. I'm afraid I'm not in the talking you out of it category unless you're trying not to spend money in which case, don't get it.

Edit: okay I forgot about the color issue. If I were you I'd pass on the black but I'd really be tempted by the charcoal even if it's not as on sale.

I think the dress would look great on you but only if it is the right size. I wouldn't bother with alterations on a sweater dress, especially since you are not crazy about black. Wine boots would work beautifully with the dress. Maybe calling around to get another color would work out. If that cut is really hard to find then I would consider the black if you could get the right size. It would look great on you!!

Yes, I'd call Bloomies and ask if they have your size and color. I love the cowl neck! I was wondering--how does it run? Pretty true to size (similar to BR)?

Let us know what you decide.

I love the cut of that dress Shiny, and I think it will look amazing on you. I second Maya's suggestion of calling Bloomies first, before ordering it in black.

I bet this dress looks great on you, Shiny! As for quality - I bought one of Aqua sweater tunics after Tanya posted them, and the quality is pretty reasonable, about BR level. I don't expect it to last an eternity but it's holding up well, and I wore it a lot - it's been my go-to outfit for a month. It did start pilling a little underarms. I don't have problems with static, but I wear mine over jeans. Not sure if this is helpful! I second Maya's suggestion to have them track down the smaller size.

Shiny, Can you have the one that's too big but on sale tailored to your size? Otherwise, 2 strikes with the black & not on sale. For me, I'd have to love it otherwise I'm thinking it wasn't meant to be. That's just how I try to shop anyomre though. If I have to talk myself into it, it wasn't meant to be for me. You could probably pull anything off though, you look outstanding in every pic I've seen you in girl!

I hit the mall today, and tried on this dress on sale:

http://www1.bloomingdales.com/.....sn_results

It is really cute, but I need the next size down. However, online, they only have that size in black, and it's also not as on sale as it was in the store. :-(

Soooo.... I am vacillating. Those who purchased Aqua sweater dresses, how are they holding up? Any raves or gripes? I did notice the dress suffers from static cling... do you have problems with this?

Also, I pause because it's black, not charcoal. Sometimes I feel like a witch in a black dress. Black suit - no problem; then I can add a pop of color underneath with a blouse. If I wore black tights and black boots with this, I'd be .... all black head to toe. Would it work with my wine boots instead? What color tights?

On the plus side, I adore the cowl neck, and those two pleats at the waist are exactly what I need in a sweater dress. Fit-wise, I'm pretty confident this dress will be flattering and cute. Length on me is longer than in this photo - I'm assuming just above the knee.

Please talk me in or out of this purchase.
