The wardrobe was not a 100% success but I don’t really own, or even want, anything that would have perfectly matched the environment in which I found myself.</p> <p>The “reception” was actually replaced with a lunch at an almost comically posh restaurant. I wore the blue dress with the blue cardigan and that was fine. There was an unadvertised party hosted by an obscenely rich (and quite sweet?) man, at which I wore the colorful skirt with the sleeveless black top and purple shoes (the ones seen with the b/w skirt). Other than my family members, there were weirdly few other women at this party other than a few in political roles who dressed as such, so … shrug. For the degree ceremony I wore the black and white skirt, black top, and gray tied cardigan and looked terrible in the photos, should have reworn the blue outfit. So firstly about the skirt and tops for travel, that looks brilliant. When I go from our NZ winter to a Pacific island like Fiji, which I have done a few times, I layer a camisole that is not too exposing underneath a warmer top so I can strip down to that once I arrive, as often little aircon in the tropical airports! Sometimes I put shorts in my carryon also, so I can vary my coverage. Long story but I was born there, my father and I just had simultaneous big birthdays, a university there wanted to give him an honorary degree. For some reason the clothing needs are throwing me into a tizzy. Factors:<br /> 1. It will be, from my perspective, unpleasantly hot and humid.<br /> 2. There is this degree ceremony, which my father says the university (a Catholic university? Not sure whether that is here or there) is taking with the utmost seriousness. Asked what is worn to this, he said “A summer dress.”<br /> 3. There may be “an afternoon reception” on a different day, hosted by a fairly elderly diplomat type.<br /> 4. City sightseeing, museums, birthday dinner at some nice restaurant. Perhaps perversely for a trip to the DR, we are unlikely to go to a beach at any point but I guess a bathing suit doesn’t take up much room in a suitcase.<br /> 5. Indeed, it’s such a short trip I probably don’t even need to worry about that.</p> <p>Soooo …</p> <p>1-3 Thinking of wearing this skirt with different tops for both travel days. Comfy, has pockets, can wear leggings under if needed.</p> <p>4-6 Sightseeing/dinner? I think my loved ones are not huge fans of this dress but whatever.</p> <p>7 Thinking of this for ceremony?? Or could re-wear the following.</p> <p>8-10 Thinking of this for reception?? The top in 8 is what I like best, mom thinks I should not be sleeveless for whatever reason, but I think it is dressier.</p> <p>11-13 options for something extra to throw in as backup for daytime activities.</p> <p>Thank you if you read all that but I don’t blame you if you didn’t. Does this seem acceptable?? It’s been winter so long I don’t remember what I wear when it’s hot. </p>
