The Gap Real Straights are straight through the hip/waist, right? They might be ones to try. I don't have many other suggestions since this is the exact opposite of my fitting problem (waists are always too loose on me if the hip fits).

I don't know what size you are, but if you veer into plus sizes, Lane bryant used to have three different cuts of jeans, and one was for the apple shape where the hips are smaller than the tummy. I haven't shopped there much recently but there or somewhere similar might be worth investigating.

Love these colors on you but agree with the others that the pants look too big all over. Pants and jeans are so hard to fit sometimes. There are certain brands that fit me really well and I stick to these. Maybe this would work for you, also. Try doing a pant/jean fitting outing just to see how different brands and styles fit your body. It may give you a better idea what to look for in the future.

I'm also apple shaped with relatively slender thighs and second rhubarbgirl's suggestion of Old Navy Rockstars. I have both the regular and super skinny rockstars and the fit around the bottom, thighs and calves is smooth and neat. Finish with a longer tunic length and you're all set. The Rockstars are absolutely my best fit skinnies.

I actually like these on you but I agree that they don't fit like skinnies. You've gotten some great suggestions for alternatives that may fit your shape better -- I have little to offer in that department since I have opposite fit issues to you, other than steering you away from cuts that work for me.

Also I need to tell you that the blazer color is fab on you, and in fact the whole color scheme of your outfit is terrific.

Depending on how your calves run (more defined or small), you may be able to get away with wearing "straights" as skinnies. I feel like sometimes, straight jeans with stretch fit better than skinnies do. Next time you're in the dressing room, try them out. I would say that if you get a close enough fit, then take them to a tailor to have them refine them to be what you want.

Brooklyn and Aliona, thanks I absolutely love the colour, which is why I took a chance on them. Didn't work out, but not the end of the world.

Laura, Tracy and smittie I guess different brands it is! I might try Gap like alaskagirl.

Robin, that's great advice thanks. I wouldn't have thought of it by myself.

Deborah, I'm completely open to other cuts of jeans. It's more about a different colour (and not wanting to duplicate my existing pair). Bootcuts are a good idea, or at least they worked well last time around.

I like the look but understand it's not what you re going for. If you want skinny jeans them I recommend something in a stretch fabric as you often get a better fit:). Are you open to other cuts of jeans? I am wondering if a bootcut might be an option for you?

Sympathies on the struggle of getting jeans to fit the way you want them to, and still being able to do them up! :)

Angie recently showed me that I'd been buying curved jeans, where the waist is narrower than the hips. She pointed out that what I needed, as an apple, was to have the jeans go straight down from the waist.

What I mean is: If you hold up the jeans, waistband done up, the fabric shouldn't curve out on either side. We apples don't have much hip to put in those curves, and we don't have waists that nip in, so that cut doesn't work for us.

Plonkee you look adorable, and I actually like the jeans on you. They look like an intenionally baggy boyfriend fit. Now we just need to find you some that fit like skinnies. I defer to others' expertise on that.

I'm an IT but apple-ish and I find skinnies to be the easiest to fit, especially when there is some stretch and they are higher rise and legging-like. Here's a pic of a pair from Gap that are a pull-on style and girdle my middle for extra support and smoothing. (Fitting room photo, sorry!).

I agree with others, I really like the colour of these, its distinctive. Is there a way you could maybe get them tailored to solve the problem areas? I realise that adds to the price, but maybe it's worth it to get a perfect fit on something you've already invested in.

That dark blue jacket with the green jeans is a fab look! I really cant advise anything but to try, try again on the jeans fit. If you are in UK, I would give some of the ASOS brands a go - I like that because that way you can try them at home. I do suspect that fab dark green colour will be hard to find in other brands.

If you can get the skinnies sorted out, I think it'll be a great silhouette on you.
I'm sorry I don't have advise, except to say to keep trying different brands.

I think they're too big all around. If there's not enough room in the waist to size down then look try on other brands. It took me a while to find skinnies that stayed skinny once I got the waist fit suitable. Currently I've found a cut from Target of all places. Their mid rise skinnies are a perfect fit for me.

Hmm, I see what you're talking about. I think the big fit problem is the looseness through the thighs, which is not how skinnies are supposed to fit. I'm guessing you're in the UK since these are from Debenhams? I don't know what brands you have access to. If you were in the US I'd say try NYDJ, Jag's pull-on styles, and maybe Old Navy's Rockstar cut.

I'm a proper apple shaped very short person who struggles with trousers and jeans. Today I wore some new dark green skinny fit jeans. I bought them in a laundry crisis having only tried the smaller size (which I could barely do up). They did not work (see photo).

I actually like them from the knees down (although not skinny), but they have far too much excess fabric around the butt and thighs.

Would a different style be more likely to fit my apple shape? Or a different brand? Or is it pot luck?
