This looks great and is definitely a keeper, in my opinion. It doesn't look extremely flirty or too young - it's quite classy. I don't see it getting outdated within a year or even three, though probably others would be more able to predict that than I would.

The jackets and blazers you tried look good with it, IMO the two black ones are best but the others are good too. Perhaps a grey or white fitted blazer would be interesting as well.

suz--the VC and this one are so similar but different, you know? Next to this one, the VC is much more relaxed. Really looks more slouchy next to this but also blends in to more casual occasion, I think. What could be too similar is both curse and blessing--both are in the blue/black-white print and so I feel need a "warmer" topper and might work with some of the same but then would the outfits be the same?
Tina, Anne, merwoman--you enablers!
Rachylou, I like how you take a critical eye as that helps me see from various angles. You expressed some of why I didn't just rip the tags off. This is "perkier" than usual for me and so is that moving away from my true style or is that a direction I might have fun with and see?
Sarah A--yes! Aren't details funny and maddening? A slightly lower scoop in the neckline is both more jacket-friendly and more flattering. I will take another look at how they feel.
Lyn--it would look better on you!
Caro--hey there! It's not a "LBD" but I'm trying to see if it would be versatile with different toppers and shoes.

Classic, but another on trend item with the larger dots that were all over the s/ s runways. I like the length as well, just at/ or slightly above the knee. I like where you are going with your style.

Keep.

perfection! Not too young and you look lovely. The jackets that work best are the first two because they give you that 'thirds' look. The shorter jackets divide in half and don't feel as fab to me

I like the dress, I have in pinned on pinterest even! Although, FWIW, I do not think the neckline is as topper friendly as the one you showed yesterday or the day before. The high scoop of the neck makes a straight line across the neck when worn with the topper, so then I feel like a necklace or something is needed to breakup the line, and I dont know.... does that get too fussy? Or would you be wearing jewelry anyway when styled?

I just noticed this especially b/c I discovered the same neckline conflict on a dress of mine recently, so I may be hyperaware of this particular thing right now and not seeing objectively.

I LOVE this dress on you; it looks really, really good. I think dots (even the slightly larger ones on this dress) are classic and come back every spring. The proportions look perfect - length, amount of volume in the skirt, neckline - and it ought to be great to wear for multiple years. I don't see it dating itself soon. I definitely think this is a keeper!

The silhouette is perfect for your body - highlighting your beautiful legs and tiny waist, great arms and neck. Then look at all your toppers that look fantastic with this dress!
off to google nordstroms ...

Wow, thanks for the input!

I do like the dots. Dots per se should be classic, but these are kind of large wacky dots. Would they get tiresome, do you think? Like here come the dots, again. A nice feature is the dots appear in a range of white-gray hues.

If this dress would still be fine up to a "few" ( say, 3) years from now--meaning, the style works for me and one can always change up toppers, handbags, footwear-- I could persuade myself to keep it. That is more useful to me in a dress than some of the moment style. For the dressy-ish dress capsule I want some things on hand I can count on for awhile, organize some outfits, and feel prepared. I don't think CPW will ever be really low, for me, for dresses, but still have to budget some reasonable "cost of doing business."

It is sleevless, and it will require a jacket or shrug in air conditioning. If that is a deal killer, I would part with it now! it is so gorgeous, it may have trouble going back otherwise.

And I just love polka dots. These don't look young as they sometimes can!

In my humble opinion, the thing that would make a dress more young looking than you would like is the color, skirt length and neckline. This dress fits elegantly, it's an elegant classic color and you styled it in a way with the jackets that I find really flatters. So I am thumbs up for this dress. Oh and as I have mentioned many times over, I have a weakness for polka dots.

My first reaction after seeing the pics was to consider searching for this dress for myself. I don't think there are any age-appropriate issues at all. I love the print and cut.

I find that although I do need a top layer with sleeveless indoors, I am outdoors fairly often in summer so I don't find the sleeveless issue to be as important in spring/summer dresses.

An Adrianna Papell dress was on backorder from Nordstrom and just arrived to complicate my dress capsule life. I just show it with jackets I had out for the other dress.

This one is very similar to an earlier black/bronze AP dress I showed, but it actually fits better--longer in waist and skirt relative to bodice fit. However the bust fit is a bit off, so would have to be tailored, if that can be done. Note it is navy, but it is such a dark navy I almost can’t tell it’s not black. Also skirt pleats ? need pressing as hem appears uneven but there are areas where it's folded up, I think.

Dilemmas! 2 big questions: 1) is it a good dress first of all and 2) , Should I keep it even if it is ?
---Is it too “flirty” or young, with the slightly short but full skirt? I have trouble finding the right balance sometimes.
--I really don’t need too many dresses at one time, even if I “love” more than several, because I can’t wear them enough. Trying to think if this would get enough use because if it's outdated in a year, it will not.
--Finally, the sleeveless thing. Not as an arm sensitivity deal, but realistically, in any air-conditioned venue I will have to wear a wrap, so the outfit then essentially depends on the jacket. If a dress is enough like a LBD, that can be a good thing, but I may need the discipline to say that the next dress needs to have sleeves.
--Will also add pics later of a couple of several years-old sleeveless fit and flare dresses that have been orphaned but I want to try some new stylings and do keep or toss. That could complicate things further.

I'm on the fence as to whether you go with what you've got after a lot of looking, or just wait and look again next fall or spring for what's new then to refresh dress capsule at intervals. I'd appreciate your opinions on how you might approach it.
