Agree with the others.. try a dressier top. Or a drapy tee with a semi-tuck. I also prefer mine with heels, but they also work with ballet flats.

Search for some of the posts on the Leith track pants from a year ago.
You may need a dressier drapey-er top but it doesn't have to be super-dressy. I found that silky rayon T-s and light linen or silky knits work well. The semi-tuck is great for track pants but it's possible with the right style of pants and top to wear the top untucked.
I have worn wedge heels for going out, but for work I've worn loafers, slipper flats, and pointy flats.

Here's a couple pics of the way I've worn my black track pants. One is with a dressy, shimmery cropped top and pointed-toe black booties - and the other is with a very casual sleeveless tee - semi-tucked - and flat black metal-toed boots. Other ways that I've worn them has been with a black blazer, several different colors of moto jackets, an over-sized top, a white blouse, and a cropped top. I find that when I try to wear sneakers with them that it just doesn't feel right to me - so I pair them with a less sporty looking shoe. The pants are really quite versatile for my style and climate - I too can wear mine year-round!

ETA: Woops - I see that in the pic I am wearing my metallic booties with them rather than the pointed-toe black booties! Any type of bootie should work!

Do you have a picture you could post? Much easier if we can see what you have What fabric are we talking about here? Nylon traditional Adidas style pants? Fleece? Rayon? Silk? Are they dressy or casual? Stripe down the side etc?

There are so many ways to wear these!

Try to wear dressier top with them - sweatshirt, sneaks and track pants together would be too much for me.
Here are some examples:
http://www.pinterest.com/pin/106679084897428213/
http://www.pinterest.com/pin/264727284321717808/
http://www.pinterest.com/pin/105975397455110226/
http://www.pinterest.com/pin/211950726187998933/
http://www.pinterest.com/pin/31173422396784875/
My favorite: http://www.pinterest.com/pin/276619602081921070/

Last spring I found a shiny fabric, black pair on a sale rack. After seeing them on here looking great, I tried them on and the fit was perfect, the price was right,so home they came. They have never been worn. Since they fit so well, and are soft and comfy, I am trying to style them. Nothing seems to look right.
I am in a warmer climate so they could go all year. If I could make them work. Tried sweatshirts and t's with sneakers and felt dumb. Even with heels, and felt even dumber.
