That's a great idea, Una! Maybe with my tall brown lace-ups. I think the loin cloth part would hang low enough. Will try it when the weather allows!

Anna, I'd be curious to see them in action if you ever pull 'em out again.

Coudl you wear them with the hi-lo UWP sweater we both own? Or would that be too much front exposure?

I have a pair of Vince ponte seamed pants where the seaming resembles riding pants. Haven't worn them in forever though.

Thank you, La Francaise! I feel like I should know more about leggings because they are so popular, but I was simply never attracted to the standard black versions. Your rules make perfect sense - now I am envisioning a long sweater with a good drape that maybe even has a hi-low or fishtail hem. A short dress, too.

I wear jodhpurs to ride, but they are not quite the shape of leggings.

I wear leggings regularly. BUT I DEFINITELY have a Golden rule about how: I've repeated it often on this forum, so forgive me, if you've already come across it: a very narrow (or skinny) lower half of the silhouette, for me, MUST be balanced by width on top: this might be a tunic, a short dress, or a long A-line sweater. Conversely, anything form-fitting above my waist, MUST be balanced by width below: ie wide palazzo pants or an A-line skirt, (worn slightly longer than the knee). A clingy top paired with leggings is a recipe for disaster on the slimmest of figures IMO.

However, leggings can give a lovely, long-legged look when worn correctly. I often pair them with a long A-line sweater in Winter, and wear my leggings in black, with high-heeled stretchy black suede knee-high boots over them. It's a trick that really elongates and slims my legs, whilst the A-line sweater hides my hips and chunky upper thighs. I think, rae, by following the rule I gave in the first paragraph (which isn't just mine, it's in any good style guide) you can probably make your peace with leggings and wear them happily! Good luck with styling yours! :-)

BTW, If you want to see how this rule works in action, just look at Angie's blog for today. She pairs an ultra-slim mid-calf skirt (which could be almost as difficult to pull off well as leggings can be) with a crisp, fairly long A-line blouse for balance, and the result is spectacular!

Ok, so sounds like I won't look like I don't know what they are if I treat them as regular leggings - this is good. I like the idea of a long tunic length sweater... I guess I should keep an eye out at the swap meet!

Rachy, you ride? Go, girl!

Cute! I wear leggings with dresses, skirts, tunics, and long sweaters. With flats, chucks, and boots (when it rains). I wear riding pants to ride, so the jodhpurs and a short top and boots.

I wear them like leggings. Only people who actually ride should wear them as pants.

I found a pair of Zara riding leggings with suede panels that look a lot like these at the flea market for $1. They are a very nice weight and are pretty cool, but I have no idea how to wear them... I don't usually wear leggings.

Do any of you wear riding pants? How do you style them? When I google, all I see are leggings-as-pants looks, and I have a very firm anti-leggings-as-pants policy.
