I ordered these. We shall see. i realized today while walking home that I really should be only looking at tall boots for the warmth factor....

I have these Kendall and Kylie 'Park' combat boots that definitely have a good tread but I find that I don't wear them that much. Instead I've been wearing what are probably the least "winter-worthy" option, Frye 'Molly' boots which are very comfortable but slippy with leather bottoms.

Greyscale, heh now that you mention it I think I might actually have tried the Tevas at some point in the past and didn't keep them. I don't remember why. They do seem quite familiar!

Kkards, that smoke color is gorgeous! Unfortunately that type of sole tends to be really slippy on the sidewalks here.

Staysfit, good idea to check eBay for the burgundy blondos. I do vaguely remember them from a few years ago.

Aurore, those are really lovely! Thanks for the brand recommendation - I hadn't heard of either brand before. I wonder if there's somewhere I can find them with free/cheap shipping/returns in the states...

LP, I am on the fence about cognac. I have a pair of tall laced cognac boots (which are too cold/slippy to wear right now) that I don't think gets worn enough and I don't know if it's the color (too close to brown maybe) holding me back. I do like them though..

In the meantime, we are having a weird warm week right now and the sidewalks are pretty clear so I'm taking the opportunity to wear some of my other boots. It's just a brief respite though as we are supposed to get back to arctic temps next week.

Blondo has several tall riding boots in "Butterscotch" (sort of a dark cognac) that caught my eye. I'm not usually interested in cognacs or tans, but this one was rich enough and red enough to catch my eye. Not quite burgundy, I know, but also not quite brown. Here's an example with lots of sizes left.

British country brands may have styles that address some of your issues : their boots are designed to be sturdy, waterproof and not slippery.

They are mostly brown or black, but I included photos of the two models with the most interesting colors I could find :
- #1 (taupe) are the "Limerick" from Dubarry,
- #2 (chestnut) are the "Fairweather" from Penelope Chilvers.

I personnaly have a pair of Dubarry boots that I reach for everytime I need reliable, all-terrains boots (from snow in town to stable work in the country), and which still look good with minimal care. I'm not sure you would like their (quite massive) design and they are only available in brown and black, but I included a photo (#3) in case it could sparkle an idea.

These are black so not your preferred color, 8" shaft (not 10" as you prefer) but I am loving them. Great traction, warm, waterproof, and do seem tough although I've only had them for a few weeks. They run just a little big. The ankle strap means they can be tightened up a bit in that area although I don't need to. Some of my pants stay tucked in and some do not, and I'm still experimenting with how to work with that. They also look great with pants outside the boots if they are slim pants at the right length.

Ugh, at one time Blondo did make a burgundy colored boot. I know because I had them. Maybe check EBay? Someone may have put them up for sale. I gave mine away last year........LOL! I hadn’t used them in several years and they were collecting dust.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Rebekah, I like several of your options. The Teva and the Pikolinos especially. I had considered those red Bos and co boots but I'm not sold on the brown sweater trim - I really don't do brown, plus it just reads a bit too casual to me somehow.

Jaileen, I love blondos and they fit me well but am annoyed that most of their options only come in black and dark brown. I don't want a bootie for this particular purpose though, as they don't work with my deep winter pants which are mostly skinny and slim and need to be tucked into the boots - because of my skinny ankles, my pants are all a bit loose at the ankle which means I can't tuck them into short booties. I prefer booties with crops or bootcuts, neither of which are practical in this weather.

Greyscale, I actually do have Frye motos. They're super slippery though, even after I had the heel plates replaced with more rubbery ones. I AM considering getting some other motos though! And I'm a little hesitant about more Docs - the pair I have (an 8-eye style) are very heavy and too wide/deep for my low volume feet (plus no half sizes, boo) so they're not as comfy as I'd like. Still, I might pull them out anyway for variety.

I found boots recently that fit none of your actual criteria but solve the same problem for me - Frye Campus boots. (They're black, wide in the ankle, and barely fit my calves despite being huge on all the models!) But I know exactly what you mean about needing a change. I didn't want to wear my old knee-high boots but I wanted something in the same vein.

How about calf-height motorcycle boots? Dr Martens or Frye, or maybe not those exact brands but something similar but more weatherproof, perhaps.

(Oh lord, as someone who's sensitive to most scented products... I really hope this trend doesn't spread too far! I had a lovely pair of boots once that were baby powder scented. It never really faded and I never really wore them.)

Well. Lemon Jelly has not previously come to my attention in the winter this year. I’ve mostly been focused on footwear from Icebugs and La Canadienne for my day to day needs. I hear you on avoiding the all-black-trap. I have some navy Bos boots from last year but they don’t fill the gap between the La Canadienne terribly beat up shearling motos and the wicked ugly, carbide studded, get me down the driveway Icebugs (both are black).

I bought these grey Blondos at NAS. I had to pack very lightly for Christmas and took only one pair of shoes, these. They were very comfy, and of course they’re waterproof. I actually didn’t need waterproof as it was very balmy in Northern California at Christmas. They’re sized big enough that I can wear my hiking socks with them.

Scented shoes! I wonder who came up with those. Too bad the Nordstroms near me don't seem to carry them - I would totally go and give them a sniff just to see. ;)

I've been feeling the same about my boots, and have been wearing my Blundstones almost daily.

I saw these recently--when you said interesting shoes I had to share these chelsea boots. Not what you are looking for--but I have never heard of scented shoes! I'm really curious if they do smell like lemons

Now that we have entered that time of the year when there is gross dirty snow, ice, salt, and sand all over the sidewalks, I once again find myself unable to wear the majority of my shoes and boots because they are too cold, too slippery, or too fragile.

I am SO SICK of my black riding boots (in the find below)! I have pretty much been wearing them constantly except for the days when I have to wear more serious snow boots.

I'm not really seeing much that fit my criteria and are interesting though, so I'd love it if anyone has seen anything that might work. =)

My criteria (mostly not negotiable, sorry):
-not black or brown (I'd love grey or burgundy) - I would consider    black if it's something really interesting.
-mid calf or higher (ETA ideally a 10" or higher shaft)
-lug sole or something with similar traction
-reasonably warm
-waterproof or at least water resistant
-material that can handle abuse
-no more than 2" heel (preferably 1-1.5)
-not too wide or high volume, especially in the ankle
-if knee high, must fit a 15" calf

-not excessively furry or hairy - a fuzzy lining is fine but I'm not a fan of lots of fur.
-NOT sporty or gear-ish

Just to be clear, I am not looking for serious snow boots, just something I can walk about in the city in on sidewalks with ice, old snow, etc.
