This may not be helpful but I no longer buy sweaters in the Us -merino or cashmere because of the low quality, poor fabrication, and pilling. However, try out the Scottish knitwear designer House of Bruar. Great website-they stock the finest merino and cashmere. Not only does House of Bruar ship to the US but the quality is fabulous. Ive sent both my Mum and niece cardigans from this maker and not only are they pristine after several years wear, they go in the washer and DO NOT PILL! Might be slightly pricy but in my boo, worth every penny. Their styling is "country" but their basics should translate to an urban lifestyle.

Brooks Brothers' collection of merino wool is on sale now. Obviously very traditional.

Merino is a soft yarn, so even the nicest quality is going to pill a bit. I had to return one of the Banana Republic sweaters recently, because it wasn't my size, but it did appear to be a very nice sweater, so that's where I'd start.

Also, get yourself a sweater comb/stone or shaver.

I have a couple from Banana Republic - the quality is pretty good but they did pill after a season. They are reasonably priced - especially now with all the sales on.

I noticed that one of my workhorses--a grey scoopneck merino sweater--is looking sort of pill-y and over the hill. Since we have MONTHS of winter left, here, I don't want to wait until next year to replace it. But I haven't seen any good ones (I hate acrylic!). Anyone seen any around? Preferably boat, scoop or V-neck and available in small sizes (I'm usually an XS). I will spend money for quality, since I know I will wear it a lot. Thanks!
