I love Icebreaker gear - merino sheep are so clever.

It is designed to be wind resistant, so it will be interesting to see how it stacks up.

Lightweight merino is huge in New Zealand (where Icebreaker was invented), everyone wears it and it is the most awesome fabric for travelling.

Thanks so much, Lizzy! Hm, I do already have one woolen coat, but it is long, heavy, and takes a lot of space to pack.

Man, now I wish I had gotten a henley on Black Friday, too.

I own LOADS of Icebreaker, from underwear to outerwear and everything in between. I don't live anywhere near any snow, so can't vouch for how it will perform in those conditions, but it works well for me as winter outerwear as well as in and out of a cold warehouse at work. Would definately be warmer than a cotton trench. If I didn't already own a fabulous Versace woollen coat I would buy the Icebreaker one you've bought in a heartbeat.

Their gear is always the first thing I pack when travelling - it packs really, really well and is warm and stylish to wear. I wear their long sleeve crew necks and henleys under everything during winter. They layer really well. It's true - there's no odor and you just throw them in the washing machine. I am a true fan.

I don't know, but I like the style
Does it have some kind of insulating technology maybe? I had an LL Bean Thinsulate coat when I first moved to Tahoe that wasn't very thick but worked great standing in a snowstorm waiting for the bus. Left it on a plane in '97

I've spotted a fair amount of praise here for Icebreaker socks, long undies, travel hoodies, and such - but has anyone used their outerwear coats/jackets? Are they worth it? Is the performance all it claims, or is it over-glorified?

I ordered the peacoat below on Black Friday after ogling it for about a year. As I often lament, I have a terrible time with non-breathable linings, and this one says it's breathable and won't overheat you and is windproof and odor resistant and on and on...

I will post fit/flattery pics in the morning when we have light here, but if we're just talking function... I love how lightweight it is compared to my other wool coat, and I've already seen it travels superbly (arrived in the tiniest box and unpacked without a wrinkle), but it's hard to believe that something this light packs a punch in true cold. Sitting here with it on, I can't tell if it's Not Particularly Warm or if it's Doing Its Job By Not Overheating Me.

This would be worn to visit my dad in snowy weather around late February, then for future travel. Would it keep me warmer than a cotton trench?
