I guess one important distinction in my style is that I don't aspire to edginess at all. If it happens, it happens, but for example it would not be in my rubric. It is more important to have ruggedness in my style persona. I am not sure how softer and crispier looks fit into that - although I'm not saying I'm opposed, either. Something to contemplate.

Zap and Nicole, I DO love Pinterest! I hope there are more pins for Spring soon.

Wow I am so glad you started this topic Rae! What a treat from Anna and Jonesy! I am very curious to read Angie's upcoming post. Although I am very RATE, I am not exactly UWP, and I have been drawn to more tailored, as opposed to super drapey, shapes lately. Totally doable without being super feminine or frilly (unless you want to - I do like a bit of lace myself).

I just want to take this opportunity to state that I resent the label "resort" because I am not at one and am enduring a Canadian winter (it is actually a lot of fun so far, gets depressing in Feb). ALthough I did have a trip to Disney earlier in December. But I wore my summer clothes, not my "resort" wear.

Do you get inspired by pinterest or polyvore at all?

I love everything Jonesy and Anna posted!

I do get lots of inspiration from most bloggers/brands, regardless of whether or not I share their aesthetic. You can always modify things to make them your own. Take a look at stuff outside of your comfort zone, if you are feeling uninspired.

Great suggestions from Jonesy and Anna!

Rae, *of course* we don't change our styles for the sake of evolving them - where is the fun in that :). Spot on.

Take this suggestion for what it is worth to you - it would be fun to see you in something a little softer and not distressed. This does NOT read pretty and feminine - still hard edged - just crisper. ACNE and Philip Lim inspiration came to mind. Does that make sense?

It's an interesting process. I am inspired by the new season as soon as I see all the runways shows. I have an idea of the direction I want to go into after that - and things only hit stores 6 months later - AND in Seattle I can't wear proper Spring clothes till June. So my final purchasing decisions happen MUCH later, but I am inspired immediately.

Thanks so much! I have saved one of the acne pics and will probably save a lot of yous, Jonsey, as well. I like that I have some of the elements at home but that the pics show different ways to style them.

Jonesy & Anna are way ahead of me but I was going to suggest Dries van Noten some of the pattern mixing is really interesting this year.

I don't mind evolving, and my version of UWP/SGT is usually preppier in S/S, but I guess the thing is that I haven't seen much inspiring, at least in the runway looks. I don't want to evolve in a direction just for the sake of evolving, you know? Maybe something will emerge once the stuff is in stores, but so far the looks have not tickled my fancy for several years now.

I think it's too early for spring stuff. The new stuff in stores right now is resort.
Also what Angie said.

I have this problem every Spring. Nothing speaks to me, and everything seems so dressy, pretty, and clean. Even the dark, bondage-inspired looks are so sterile. I guess it's a part of the Spring mentality, but that leaves me literally wearing the exact same items every year. It's easier on the pocketbook, but part of my shopping plan was to maybe get one good Spring refresher piece to update my wardrobe, and I'm coming up a little empty-wish-listed...
