I’ve had luck with Oxy and even Shout after drying a stain. Sometimes takes more than one try, though.

Oxyclean or peroxide should lift the stain.

When this happens to me, I try Oxyclean first, the way Angie described. If I get no improvement with the Oxyclean, then I go in with lemon juice. I put the juice on the stain and keep adding a little more every ten minutes or so. That usually get the stains that the Oxyclean can't get.

I think trying to bleach it out is not going to look like you want, so I wouldn't advise that.

A second vote for Carbona. They’re very good, their stain-specific removers.

If it is a rust stain, I swear by Carbona stain devils. They have 9 different formulas, and there is one specifically for rust.

I'd try using cotton swabs for application of the bleach/lemon juice/detergent - very precise and less chances of bleaching fabric around the stained spot.

YES. Make a paste and let it soak for a while. Then wash in the machine again.

BUT! If it's a RUST stain, you need to soak and scrub with lemon juice over and over again. You need the acid.

I swear by Oxyclean (have a stain gel-stick in every cabinet!) but would it still work even though the stain has been set in the dryer already? Maybe trying that is step 1!

My suggestions: 1) professional cleaners, 2) embroider or sew someting decorative on the stain. Your idea of using bleach to create a distressed look is good, but I do not know how it will come out .

My favorite jeans have a mysterious brown stain on the front of one of the thighs suddenly. (Errant paw print? Coffee spill? Who knows!) They have already been washed and dried before I noticed it, so unfortunately now it is baked in. I have had stains fade over time in jeans, so I could just do nothing, but I'm tempted to hit them with the bleach pen and then wash them by themselves, hopefully resulting in a cool distressed sort of look? Maybe the bleach will splatter a bit to elsewhere in the jeans? Or will they just look like they have a white stain, then?
