I haven't had this problem with my front loading washing machine yet, although I sometimes find then stuck inside something else. My parents are forever losing socks -- Mom keeps a laundry basket on top of the dryer to collect odd socks -- and they have a top-loading kind. Seriously, I sometimes find a stray sock on the floor behind the washing machine or dryer, but most of the time the sock gets stuck inside another article of clothing such as a sweater or sweatshirt. The problem was that it took her a few weeks to realize that socks connected to human feet were not toys lying around, and were connected to a person. She never actually bit or anything - she'd just try to go after our feet and seemed super confused about why she couldn't pick them up! I did some wash and ended up with several lone specimens of what were once favorite pairs of socks. </p> <p>I like socks--athletic socks, trouser socks, soft lovely soft knee socks. My feet feel the cold now. I've never done well going sockless in regular shoes. Sandals yes, shoes no. I need my socks to protect my aging feet.</p> <p>So where do they go? My sock drawer is a mess. A couple of weeks ago it was full of neatly packed pairs of socks and tonight it is a mess of unmatched formerly favorite socks. I looked in my husband's drawer--nada. Nothing left in the wash. Did they go down the drain?</p> <p>Give me the answer and my lost socks and I will donate $100 to the charity of you choice. </p>
