Sarah, I get the feeling they just swung by their local WalMart and got the most awful jeans they could find for the pictures. Tapered, too short, whiskered, light wash, and on top of that they put it on a girl with curvy hips. Of course they'll look terrible! Put her in a pair of Citizens or even J Crew jeans and I might be more convinced.

Shiny, I do notice colored thread on denim. To me, the colored thread makes a pair of jeans look more casual. Maybe because you usually see colored thread with a more traditional jean style. I don't think I've ever seen colored thread on trouser style jeans--which I happen to equate with a dressier jean.

I don't have that impression, Shiny. I’ve dressed many women in many jeans and I have not been hindered by thread colour yet. I think it's a personal preference. I happen to like both, and wear both. But if you see it that way, that’s okay and you’re not batty!

I haven't ordered yet, but I followed the youtube links today (while on a business call - so I had it on mute and just watched, didn't hear the audio) and the close-ups on the videos I saw showed that the threads on these jeans are orange/yellow. I really don't like that in a jean. I like dark threads that blend in. Or maybe I'm just too picky.

So I don't know...

Angie, am I crazy to think that the orange/yellow threads on jeans can make you look heavier? And darker threads make you look thinner? I have that impression - from trying on various jeans - but maybe it's all in my head, or the jeans I tried on that i didn't like had nothing to do with thread color?

Another thing about the before and after pics I noticed is that the "skinny" jeans are all darker wash than the other jeans. And obviously darker longer jeans will make anyone look thinner.

Re: kilts. I love them. For some reason I think guys in kilts are hot and fab... could be because I'm Scottish. Not so sure about the other "manskirts" though. Some of them remind me of The King and I.

Have to admit that a pukka Scottish bloke in a kilt is fab. Don’t fancy him in a dress though.

The return policy seemed pretty good (it's on the contact page). It doesn't even have a time limit. Just return them whenever you want for a full refund or exchange, no authorization necessary.

Yeah, according to the chart I take a 26, which is what I take in the Citizens. So if 24 is a 7-1/4 inch rise, I have to think that a 26 is pretty close to that, and I like a 9 inch rise! But the photos make it appear that these are higher than that, because they nearly reach the belly button. So it's tough to say. Plus there's all that marketing stuff about the waistband not creating belly bulge...

My second pair of Citizens (I think they're Amber), the bootcut ones, are lower than the Huttons, and they hit lower than I like but it is true there's something about the waistband and/or material that makes it not so bad. I.e., they aren't uncomfortable to wear, they don't slip down funny, BUT I am still careful to layer and choose tops that cover up that part, because it isn't all that attractive.

I'm guessing these jeans are probably comparable rise... in which case, they may not be worth it. But if the return policy isn't too bad, I may be tempted to give it a shot.... for curiousity's sake alone!

I'm particular curious how they can make one jean that appeals and flatters both hippy pear-shaped women, and non-hippy, gut-flabby, flat-butted women (I'm in the latter category). I think the woman in the photos is pear shaped. Her figure looks an awful lot like my DD, so if nothing else, if they don't fit me quite right, perhaps I will have an early bday present for her!

Oooh Shiny, if you do order them I would love to hear your report! This is what the site says about the rise: "Medium rise increases with size (7 1/4" -8 1/2")."

I knew there was a catch! Do they really think 7 1/4 is medium?! What if you're 5'10?

And make no mistake, they're quite pricey! ¢119 for a shorter one. I can just imagine a whole new generation of men feeling as frustrated with their skirts as we do with jeans.

I'm laughing for a few reasons:

1) I'm in marketing myself - so yeah, my first thought reading the site was "wow, what great space-bagging!" (space-bagging is the term for when you can make people's mouth water and plunk down lots of money for essentially giant ziploc baggies)

2) I admit I am intrigued by these jeans myself - but agree with Angie - no mention of rise! I didn't check to see if they had a fair return policy. If they do, I might try these out and report back. Because yeah although it is space-bagging copywriting - if they are true marketers, that's because they did their research and may have actually created a good product meeting a true market need (i.e., they hit all my hot buttons ... of course, so did Space Bags!)

3) Dresses for women: personally, I find it even *harder* to fit into dresses, because I'm one size larger on top than on bottom, plus I can't really wear spaghetti strap/sundress styles, plus I'm petite! Ack, to have to fit both halves (top and bottom) is always a challenge! I suspect it must be easier for pears - my DD certainly has an easier time of it :-(

4) Manskirts!! My DH is scottish and any excuse to wear his kilt, he's there. And my, does he look snappy in his kilt!! Yeah to manskirts!!

There's a drummer for a band (Phish) who would wear skirts and dresses. He claimed it was comfortable and kept his junk cool. It wasn't a good look. They weren't really masculine articles that were designed specifically for a man.

I found those comments pretty cheesy, Ana. I know what you mean about hacking off 3+ inches. It's not an issue with straight legs, but with bootcut jeans it just doesn't come out right.

Man skirts are actually gaining some ground in Germany. Granted, not a whole lot, but it's still surprising. I went to an exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum a few years back that was entirely devoted to the evolution of the manskirt. It was interesting...

That is true about jeans, Angie, I hadn't ever thought of that.

I wasn't really interested in the before and after pictures (those can be faked as Nicole astutely pointed out). Plus, did you all find the little comments underneath as annoying as I did? I was more excited about the thought given to pocket placement on the back, stretch, etc. Also that they were available in a 31" inseam as well, which most other high end $175 jeans seem NOT to be. Makes me sad. Having to hack off anything more than 3"- 4" is just not worth it--there goes your "bootcut" and they obviously look hemmed because the proportion is all off. I will try Citizens though, on Shiny's recommendation.

I am skeptical too. The pictures are extreme in every sense, and there is no mention of rise length. Are there only 2 styles available? A very good marketing ploy though. Women will flock to this site.

At the end of the day, remember that jeans were not intended for women. They were intended for men alone. This is why women with straight boyish figures tend to look best in jeans. Dresses were not intended for men. This is why curvier women look best in dresses. Sometimes it’s refreshing to remind ourselves of this fact.

Did you guys look at the before and after pictures? Did you notice that the model was the same woman in every single picture and she had on the same shoes ? Now did you notice how SHORT all the before jeans were and how the after jeans (the skinny jeans) were Angie's perfect length.

I'm skeptical. I am sure they are nice jeans, but any nicer than any other $175 jeans??

Lest you think I'm clueless about what's at the height of fashion, I don't mean the literal skinny jeans. I mean these: http://skinnyjeans.com/

They sound too good to be true, but they're sold in a few boutiques around NYC so I am curious. I couldn't afford them anyway, but I do wonder if they are as great as they claim. I'm skeptical, but a few people posted some positive feedback on this video about them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Kl2J-gsS_Q
