I’ve found the key for a week is to bring two of everything: light weight sweater, heavier weight sweater, dressy dress, casual dress, light jacket, heavier jacket etc. I have a hard time relaxing without a backup plan.</p> <p>Correction, fifth trip. I usually start with way too much and keep eliminating. I aim for 3 bottoms including the one ( whatever is heaviest) that I will wear for travel, a variety of tops that can be layered, a couple of toppers, depending on the climate, that can be layered ( puffer jacket under waterproof utility coat and possibly a soft jacket or sweater under that). Then I want 3 footwear options. I may want 2 toppers. I run conf but need options like shorts for outdoor activity. And not everything goes with everything. I do that to myself by wanting to include a specific ” outfit “ that might not fit in with the capsule.<br /> I did better this weekend on a trip.<br /> I had some new shorts in a color and pattern that’s fun and goes with some tops and shoes I already have, but NOT with the bulk of the capsule I had laid out.
