I am still loving my ink blue slouchy trousers so much, and am wearing them to bits. If I could find another pair that fits all my criteria, I would snap them up in a heartbeat. I do agree that the fit has to be exactly right, Jean.

Like Angie, I do think that slouchy trousers could look amazing on you, but if you are just not feeling the trend, then there's no need to follow it, right.

Also: you have a stunning, unique style and your style quotient could never be anything but through the roof!

Not for me either. I don't think we're any less stylish for sitting out on the occasional trend. I think they'll have a relatively short lifespan and the look doesn't appeal enough to me for it to be worth investing in - searching, experimenting, buying, wearing.

Probably not. Just invested in some very nice jeans for winter-social stuff, and have enough conservative office wear for a long while. Perhaps in the fall when pants will be needed, if the look has survived, I might be seduced into trying some on.

I absolutely love the look and love volume but having tried a couple of pairs on....no.
Just no.
They look like adult diapers on me and that did not surprise me a bit.

It's possible there are a pair out there that'd fit my body correctly so I have no problem wearing them should I happen across that pair.

Every style is not right for every body - I agree.

I realized last night that I have a high natural rise and short waist. Not great for slouchy pant worn on hip trend. I do agree that the tight pant trend is getting boring. I want a little slouch lately even in a slim or "skinny" jean. I want to see wide legs, bootcuts and straight legs all over the place and not leggings/jeggings/skinnies alone. So I like the slouchy trend on others just for some variety!

Your style is so much your own, I would imagine that you could figure out any trend or style you tried but will be inspired by anything you wear and show us nonetheless.

I have deep reservations that this will work for my short, chunky self.

I rocked this in the 80's--I vividly recall some black print trousers with a high waist. I had a short black cardigan that looked adorable with them. But! My body was very different then, and I had a 25 inch defined waist (not to mention I weighed quite a bit less and wore a much smaller bra cup.) Without that defined waist, I don't know how I could get the proportions to look nice. This may be a trend I sit out or that I will only adopt when the rest of you nice people work out the bugs for me!

Jean, nothing could diminish your style quotient! If anything, knowing your own limits only increases your style. And saves you from unneeded stress.

I haven't decided about slouchy trousers. I haven't found any to try on as yet. I love the look of some of them on others, but have no idea whether they will work for me. Back in the day, I feared pleated trousers for how they emphasized my hips and the shortness of my legs. Now, I suspect I could find workarounds. But whether they would look the way I'd like, I don't know. So I'm reserving judgement.

Ultimately, though, I feel as you do about trends in general. If they don't flatter a person's body type, I think, why bother? Why not go for some other trend that WILL flatter? I understand the wish to keep current, but there's no need to wear every single new look.

Greenglove: I don't have slouchy trousers yet. In my environment, I'm the only with colored denim over the age of 14, so moving slowly into a trend is not problem! ;}

I adore seeing your posts. It gives me "artistic dressing" inspiration, even you though you and I have very different body types and live on opposite sides of the color wheel! I think this trend might work for you in lower-slung version. A pair of slouchy pants that fit low on the hip with a woven top -- perhaps kind of short and boxy, with a fitted t underneath -- very 80's!

I'm not planning on slouchy pants either, though I will at least try a pair on if/when I see a pair that looks like they might work. I'm pretty certain this style won't work on my shape either.

In the meantime, I really don't think sitting out this trend will diminish your style quotient in any way Jean! You always look fabulous. Also, I think that part of having great personal style means knowing which trends you'd like to try and which ones to leave behind.

You can add my name to that list! I have nothing against the look. It just doesn't mesh with my personal figure flattery priorities. I'm all about accentuating my small waist and womanly hips and derriere. Slouchy pants just don't do that.

No worries, Jean- you will be incredibly stylish no matter what!
I must say that they're probably not the most flattering style on me, either, but yet I really like them. After trying on several pairs, I find it amazing how different they all are in terms of suitability for my body, where the fullness falls, etc. Some look way better than others.

My advice to you would be never say never! You may surprise yourself one of these days and fall in love with some of these! That has been my experience with some styles that I never thought I'd wear.

But if you don't ever wear them, no problem. There will be another trend that comes along that sings to you.

I am with you Jean! Although we have different body types, I know what I looked like in the 80's and 90's with pleated pants and don't need to go back there. And though I think the wide-leg, pleated pants I wore as well looked better, I tripped over them too much to safely contemplate them.

I don't really like trousers anyway - they are such a horror on my body, and since I plan to buy them at the rate of 1 pair every 10 years, I want something more classic!

OK, I admit- this is not my thing. I do love the look on some but find it terribly unflattering on my body-type. I have a straight figure and my waist is not much smaller than my hips from the front, which when wearing slouchy trousers, makes me look larger in the middle than I would like.

I see some students wear them and do not like the look if it is unflattering to their body-type.

I am not opposed to voluminous clothing and wear it all the time but where the volume is on my body makes all the difference. Rght at the waist is not a great place for me which is why I do not like belts right at the waist but prefer a hip-slung style.

Hopefully, sitting out this trend will not diminish my style quotient, because that is what I plan to do on this one.
