I'm planning for shoulder length. I would try shorter but my husband has real issues about "short" hair on women. I put short in quotations because he and I don't always have the same definition of short. But he's a sweetheart overall, so I don't make too big of an issue over hair.

I used to have very long hair... between bra line and my waist. But I have so much hair that while it looks good at that length, it makes me crazy. I end up with it braided 24/7 and I want a style that I can handle having down most of the time.

You have really beautiful hair, Brenda. How far are you planning to grow it out once the bangs/sides are even?

I'm... debating. I actually would like to go shorter; the dilemma is that in August I'm going to be a bridesmaid in a wedding. I think the other bridesmaids all have long (below shoulder length) hair. The bride, fortunately, has said I can do whatever I want with my locks (whew!) but I'm trying to decide what that should be. I'm really not eager to go below chin-length again for a long time.

I'm thinking about it... one last hurrah before I am "too old." But my hair is very thick and heavy, and layered cuts to manage it past my shoulders always turn into these scary mulletesque things. When it's long, all I do is put it up! Still, I think about it often.

Maybe I should just get extensions and get it out of my system. Or a rapunzel wig.

Yes , I am. I cut it to a very short bob in June 2011 and now I'm letting it grow. I love bobs on me, usually chin length, and with asymmetric side-swept bangs, but now i've become interested in braiding. Now I have a long bob, somewhere barely touching my shoulders. Also it's layered. I like layers, they're good for me. But they make the growing process quite a hassle. Anyway I'm very intro braiding lately. I've seen it on some runway models and now I'm obsessed. This is how I deal with this lenght. I actually find it easier to braid than deal with mousses and such to make sure it's shape keeps up during an event. I can almost do this by myself:) That's a model, but i do something similar, and sometimes let the bangs out in front.:)

Never again. Every time I grow my hair out, it gets to a certain point and I just hate it. I finally figured out that it's hard to get a fun and edgy cut past a certain length, and that is why I dislike it longer. My hairdresser and I agreed- it's better shorter for me. He has instructions to slap me if I ever want to grow it out again LOL

I've been sort of letting mine grow out, just to keep changing things up. I get bored with my hair pretty quickly, and it grows FAST, so change is easy for me. One reason I let it grow out last year was because I'd started running, and having it longer makes it easier to pull back in a ponytail.

I think I've hit my limit on length though. The longest layers are now reaching below my shoulders. I'm just not sure what to do with it next. When my husband and I were on vacation, he pointed out a woman with very short hair -- shorter than Angie's -- and asked if I'd ever cut my hair like that. I can't see it working on me. I have a small head and feel like my hair needs some volume and presence to balance me out.

I am growing it out for very similar reasons. My hair, which used to be fairly striahgt with a nice wave, started getting unruly when I started getting layers. For some reason,I thought the solution was to get a even more layered cut from a 'curly girl' stylist. I have been growing it out since last summer and my goal is to get it all the layers a few inches past my shoulders so I can go back to my trusty old haircut. It grows exceedingly slowly, so it has been a tedious process.

I'm working on growing mine out...which for me means letting the back get longer than the front. I will never have LONG hair, but both my stylist and I have agreed it's time to let it grow a bit for a change.
I know what you are saying about no "big reveal" though. sigh... if I thought I could rock the pixie as fabulously as Angie et al, I would do it in a heartbeat, but honestly I really feel that I need a bit more hair.

My hair is too heavy and coarse to grow out. Post kids it got even worse--it's like a horse's tail. Gah. I'll never grow it out. Good luck on your endeavor though. Growing out is a pain but will be worth it in the end : )

I am... for a few inches at least. I had shoulder length or shorter hair for around 9 years, and thought it was time to go long again. Plus I am very bad about regular salon visits, and longer hair shows it less (nevermind that it's really obvious on my dyed hair anyway). Right now it's maybe a couple of inches below my shoulder and I'll probably grow it maybe to the bottom of my shoulder blades. I did use to have waist length hair once upon a time but it was REALLY heavy, which was annoying, so I don't think I'll ever grow it that long again.

The other ostensible reason is that I am getting married probably late 2012 (although we are being slow and haven't decided on a date yet) and I might want the option of being able to wear my hair up.

Claire, pretty much that. I'm going to try a shoulder length bob. My hair is very layered at the moment and with as much wave as I have, that means it goes everywhere. The sweet ladies at the Seattle meet up helped me figure out what might work. So now I just get to wait and grow!

I had mine buzzed up the back in a severve A-line bob at the beginning of last summer. Been growing it ever since, but I think I've passed my sweet spot and I need to bring it up a notch to keep from elongating my already long face and neck.

After seeing Sarah's wonderful new haircut, I was thinking.... there's no great reveal for the slow painful growing out process. LOL Who else is waiting for their hair to get longer?

FWIW I'm planning on getting my hair cut to my shoulders in a week, but it will take months to grow out the bangs and sides. Sigh.
